I have been jumping the gun and reading on nodes when I should still be familiarizing myself with houses, and as I was doing so I came upon a contradiction (or is it?).

Whenever I read on Nodes, and when they describe them, they define them as so...

North Node in Cancer North Node in 4th House or North Node in Capricorn North Node in 10th House

Now, looking at my chart, my NN is in the 10th House, but not in Capricorn, but in Cancer, so on this link http://www.astroresources.com/nodes.htm which definition would be true for me and WHY?

Here is my chart below:

For those who know me slightly, I think it's obvious that whenever I have a query, it has to do with CAREER, CAREER, CAREER! and so, if my interpretation is the first one (NN in Cancer, in 4th House), I am afraid that I will have a panic attack because it may mean that I will be a housewife, which scares me because I think that would be too much for me to handle. There's nothing wrong with being a housewife except for the fact that it is difficult, I am not mature enough for the job and I am not maternal enough. I would traumatize my kids if I they saw me full-time.

So, which definition applies to my chart, and what aspects or placements signify a good career, or at least a fulfilling one, in this chart?

One more question, why is the South Node so taboo, or am I not looking in the right places? What is it's significance?

I'm sure i have asked about this before but it's an obsession of mine.

You read it as the house it's in. Those descriptions use the natural house system.

Your node is in your 9th house in cancer, with SN in the 3rd in cappy.

You probably need to develop your spiritual side more. Your SN is happy to live in the mind and intellectual pursiuts. To realize your potential you have to get philosophical.

Btw, your SN will get hit by tPluto, but not for a bit, because pluto moves so slowly. You should read about that so you know what to expect.

i think they are both relevent. my understanding is that the sign is the general energy that you need to learn to express/become, and the house is the WAY you need to learn to do so.

so, career would be the general thrust, but perhaps developing or bringing to it cancerian qualities.

i may be wrong, but this is my understanding. i've always been a bit confused when i think about this myself.. but that is what i've heard anyway! wish i could tell you more, but that is all i know..

You should look at the sign too, but you have to do it piecemeal with these kinds of articles.

oh! i didn't even notice.. it's in your 9th, not your tenth.

9th is about relying on your intuition rather than overthinking.. in cancer you would also want to work on accepting emotions in yourself and others and going with the flow instead of trying to circumnavigate them..

Oh, yeah... it's not even in the 10th House. Bumber! Thank-you. So, my NN has nothing to do with career. Hmmm... *thinking*

added: I get confused at times because my 9th and 10th houses are in Cancer, so I just think that everything in Cancer is 10th house. I must pay more attention next time.

you know what though? i'm slightly more in agreement with how my chart is interpreted in equal over placidus, and it puts my NN in the 9th rather than the 8th. it makes more sense to me. maybe yours is 10th in equal..

unmoved, i HIGHLY recommend the book "Astrology for the Soul" by jan spiller, and i rarely HIGHLY recommend anything. it is an AMAZING book and you don't need to have any other astrological knowledge to "get" it. each chapter has over 50 pages on each possible NN placement. it's an amazing read and so helpful.

excellent heart cakes. I'll hunt for it asap actually.

Ummm... you don't wanna give us a quote there on NN conjunct MC in Cancer, do ya? LOL Ok, I am asking too much since you're talking 50 pages. LOL

My NN is conjunct my MC, right? Or is it out of orb?

LadyNeptune, this is what I find on tPluto on SN thus far and it's rather gloom and doom.

quote:
Transiting Pluto and the President's South Node

Transiting Pluto, lord of the underworld and things not in apparent view, conjoins with Bush's natal lunar south node. Events and issues can emerge around that day that has been lurking under the surface. The south node is a point of loss, a place where one pays dues for actions taken in the past, whether the existing life or a prior one. Pluto rules the consciousness of the masses and its actions are often beyond our control. Terrorism is a negative manifestation of Pluto and transformation and regeneration is a positive one.

Use of stem cells is very much a Plutonian thing taking matter from a dormant or deceased form to stimulate growth and transformation in the cells of another. Although not considered crucial in determining the victor in this election, if Bush loses, his failure to promote research in this area will be a factor.

I'll add more of what I find as I go. Thanks for the heads up!

Hi Unmoved!

I like this interp:

The South Node represents habit patterns from childhood or from past lives. These are comfortable patterns, but they often get in the way of you having the kinds of connections you want with other people. These are especially powerful if you have a planet conjunct the South Node in your chart.

The sign and house placement of the South Node tells where you have a tendency to totally overdo things. There is a longing there, a craving that is very strong. The nature of this longing is shown by the sign of the South Node. For example, in Taurus, the craving is for material security. In Leo, for recognition. In Gemini, for information.

The sign and house of the North Node represent circumstances and activities that usually feel unfamiliar. It’s the “secret shadow” of the South Node sign, and it’s the key to getting that craving met. That’s why the North node reveals an area of massive growth potential in your life. It’s the key to getting energy flowing.

Sometimes in the astrological literature, you will see interpretations that color the North Node as all positive, and the South Node as all negative. Sometimes they suggest that you should strive to move “toward” the North Node and shun the qualities represented by the sign of the South Node. (As if that were possible.) I do not think this is a constructive way to look at it. Your South Node indicates an area of longing, but also of massive talent and gifts. The trick is channeling those gifts properly.

Think of the North Node as the head, and the South Node as the stomach. The stomach has the hunger, but the head has the mouth. So you fulfill the desires of the South Node through the energy of the North Node.
http://www.north-node.com/astrology-tutorials/nodes

North Node in Cancer, South Node in Capricorn
The South Node in Capricorn represents a strong drive to succeed. You mess up when you measure success by the “outward” symbols of success or achievement of a position in society (i.e. clothing, material status, titles, awards, the “right” friends, etc.). To gain these things, you may try to “cut off” or ignore the feeling side of things, yours and others’. Your North Node in Cancer shows that the true measure of your success is emotional fulfillment— if you aren’t feeling safe and content on the inside, you haven’t “made it.” This does not deny you success in your career, but it does mean that you find satisfaction in life only when you use your strong work ethic and management skill in a way that is emotionally suited to you, and responsive to others.

...and info on the NN in the 9th...

Unmoved, You have a nice chart to become an astrologer out there in South Africa.. Virgo with Scorpio Rising along with Mars and Jupiter in 1st House.. Moon in Cancer.. Emotional and Analytical.. Nice ;-)

Problem is we need to discover Vulcan to understand you (Virgo) better. Your concerns on Career and Job relates to Virgo in my opinion and it has nothing to do with Nodes.

8th! Excellent! Thanks. That is very true of me, hence the career obsession... LOL for the reference material.

Thank you mblover...

Oh? I see... because my Sun and Venus are in Virgo, which relates more to image, recognition, money etc, right?

LadyNeptune... this is a most interesting transit, tPluto on SN because George W. Bush was predicted to lose the election by astrologers - but then he won, and also Nixon resigned on this transit. Let me dig some more.

Aha!! I estimate that it will take approximately a minimum of 5 years for tPluto to hit my SN, which gives me time to prepare - and use the transit to my advantage somehow.

Okay... and look at what I discovered... hee hee , from astro.com, I can do an extended chart with all aspect lines PLUS the transits, which shows the length of the Rx planets, so that means I can calculate when anything will hit anything on my chart... just as soon as I find out from MM's thread how many degrees each planet moves to equate a certain period of time (eg. 3 degrees = 6 months for "X" planet)

Oh, here's the chart with all aspects to NN and SN and transits...

BUT WAIT A SEC... Are these transits correct? Why is the Sun in Libra? Help!!

Actually, What in the world is this chart ABOVE?

This one below makes more sense because the transits are current.

Oh, golly!!! I am confused again. Maybe I should listen to Zala and just stick to the simple things before I go to Nodes...

MORE OF WHAT I AM DISCOVERING ABOUT NODES

If we abuse our power, Pluto will be there to give us a swift kick in the pants, which was what happened to Richard Nixon. The South Node of the Moon is the karma control point. Transiting Pluto will be conjuncting Clinton's progressed South Node in 1999 and 2000. Will he be impeached? I don't think so. He has a strong Venus, Neptune and Jupiter, plus a winning smile and personality. Besides, the Republicans don't want to see Gore take office. All of Clinton's progressions indicate that he will be out of power in the year 2000, even though the aspects that terminate his stay in office have commenced in August 1998.
http://www.isarastrology.com/content/view/41/40/

So it seems that SN and tPluto equal a loss of power, or the beginning of a road towards the loss of power. It indicates that a person might/could start practices or habits that will make them feel empowered but the same actions will ultimately lead to a loss of power - in a possibly public way.

Here's another link that could be relevant: http://www.astrologyweekly.com/astrological-aspects/north-node-aspects.php

I have this -

1. Astrology aspects - North Node square Mercury This square creates a situation in which the prevailing attitudes of the society conflict with the natives' mental expression and communication. They cannot project their ideas as they would like, and therefore tend to be misunderstood. Often they meet with social disapproval because they speak out at the wrong time or place. They may be in disagreement with surrounding social patterns.

2. North Node trine Mars This configuration gives the ability to act and to time actions so that they are in harmony with socially accepted modes of behavior. Thus the natives gain popularity as social leaders. The configuration favors politicians and others who lead public lives. The energy needed to dela with social trends and institutions is available.

3. North Node trine Jupiter This configuration indicates that the natives' moral and religious values are compatible with those of the society in which they live. For this reason, they are likely to gain prominence in the religious and social institutions of their culture. Their instinctive ability to flow with prevailing trends brings popularity and financial gain.

4. North Node conjunct Moon This conjunction brings fortune through the natives' ability to sense and to flow in harmony with the prevailing current of events. In other words, they are instinctively capable of taking advantage of current trends. Carried too far, this attribute leads them to jump on whatever bandwagon happens to be passing, without due concern for the consequences. Natives' enthusiasm brings them popularity. Good fortune in dealing with women or the public is also indicated. Thus, the aspect is beneficial to those in public relations, selling, entertainment, and politics. If the chart as a whole bears out this tendency, natives will be generous and interested in religion. This is a favorable karmic influence, created by generosity and helpfulness to others in the native's past.

13 degrees Orb... not influential enough

5. North Node conjunct Midheaven This conjunction gives natives the ability to further their professional ambitions and public standing through their aptitude for harmonizing with present social trends. They are fortunate in meeting and gaining the assistance of people in prominent positions who will help to further their careers; they have the ability to be in the right place at the right time. If the rest of the chart is weak, the natives' lives can become unbalanced - they may attain more power and responsibility than they have the knowledge or integrity to handle. This can be dangerous for the natives as well as for those whom their power affects. The conjunction brings good fortune and, even in a heavily afflicted chart, will protect the natives from ruin and disaster. South Node conjunct Nadir brings heavy responsibilities into the natives' lives where their homes and families are concerned. Sometimes parents are a burden. The domestic sphere will limit the natives' expressions.

Also too wide an orb to be effective

The North Node seems career related, or maybe it depends on where it is situated in a chart?

Not being nasty por anything but your moon placements as well as ur 12th house planets show work within the sex industry and amongst other women. It shows a very unstable career life and your first house ruler and 8th and 12th are all in the 12th house. It shows some sort of pyschological problems and a hidden part to your life which you might experience it to be difficult when heavy planets make aspects to that area of your chart.

About ur transits i think you might move house soon or might have just recently and might even find yourself a new love interest. Regardless of the changes in career or home life they look beneficial.

Your Moon in the 10th conjunct your MC is a huge reason why your career is so important.

On a side note, I wouldn't count the NN/moon conj as a very strong aspect as the orb is 13 degrees.

Also...this is a trip, but your DC is conj my NN...or your AC/Jup are conj my SN within 2 degrees!

Here's a moon in the 10th interp...

Moon

The Moon in the 10th House indicates that the past life experience has involved exposure to lifestyles, which gave direct experience of status and externally imposed authority, both of which continue to hold great fascination for the Moon person. This placement confers either a longing for personal recognition or an attraction and deference towards powerful people, especially powerful women.

A child with this placement of the Moon is commonly born to parents, one of whom at least, either occupies a position of authority on some scale or craves recognition, which is felt to be lacking. Mostly that parent will be the mother who places great emphasis on achievement and measures success according to conventional criteria. The child himself tends to comply with those ambitions of the parent, which extend to himself and allows himself to be directed. Throughout his life the person with the Moon in H10 tends to be impressed, both by people with status and seniority and those who have power over him by dint of the hold they have on his emotions. Far from resisting people who use this kind of control, a person with the Moon in H10 is likely to encourage their involvement in his life and is happy to defer to their perceived superiority. The point here is that a person with the Moon in H10 tends to give over control of his life to those to whom he becomes emotionally attached. Where the past life experience has been one of holding a position of authority, a person may be haunted by the memory all his life if the present incarnation does not give him scope to repeat the experience.

AUTHOR’S NOTE: Developments in our society in the last 50 years make it easier for women with an emphasised 10th House to gain status and recognition in their own right rather than having to bring it into their lives by means of the partner. Nevertheless, conventional perceptions of the woman’s role, coupled with a failure to appreciate, whilst at school, the extent of their own ambitiousness, still makes it very common for 10th House women to reach the Saturn Return without having taken even the most basic of steps towards setting themselves up in a career, which will give them the rewards they seek. The consequences of this tend to be frustration and a sense that there is a piece of their life missing. It is notable that men with an emphasised 10th House do not to leave themselves out in the cold in the same way. Maybe this is because they are encouraged both directly and indirectly to recognise their ambitions. http://www.dkfoundation.co.uk/BookKarmaHouse10.htm

Have a great day!

Thanks 8th!

belgz - sex worker? LOL, or am I a pimp? I wouldn't put it past myself to own a few brothels and cater to politicians and celebs.

But, I agree with most of what you say because my career is volatile and I have some psychological issues I suppose, but these issues are not enough to book me into the loony bin...yet.

I liken myself to Howard Hughes mixed with Leonardo Da Vinci at times because although they achieved many great things through their imagination, they were nutters, to be honest.

Thanks Belgz.

wait a sec belgz... so, are you speaking from experience with this sex industry thing, or this is your educated deduction, from research... hmmm? Kidding... i know you were speaking relative to my 12th house placements.

and speaking of my mom... it's either I don't see the power she has over me, or it's because of what 8th said, with regards to letting people over-power me because I enjoy it, maybe that's why I don't notice that she's over-bearing... but quite honestly, my mom is "perfect". She gets on my nerves with her quirks but I let them slide.

Unmoved: The first transit chart looks weird because it includes you Progressed transits (they're in green, the regular tranists are in red). You pSun must be in libra.

Your NN is too wide of an orb to be considered conjunct thw MC. Sorry.

LadyNeptune - No need to be sorry I just wantetd to know whether the Nodes in my chart affect my career in any way because Nodes are one part that I just have no idea about.

Well, I suppose I will have to look at other placements.

Here's what I found from http://www.cafeastrology.com/articles/northnodeincancer.html:

North Node in Cancer and/or in the Fourth House

With North Node in Cancer, our South Node is in Capricorn. With North Node in the fourth house, our South Node is in the tenth house.

A tendency to feel the need to be in control, to take responsibilities too seriously, to be rigid and fearful of being dependent on others, and to are some of the issues this position suggests. With this position, we need to let go of our tendency to over-manage our lives and others' lives, to relax our standards of perfection and achievement, and to avoid falling victim to living through the eyes of society instead of valuing our own personal (as opposed to professional/status) achievements. Being dependent on others is a fear, but only when we release some of our need to be in control will we achieve our goals in our professional lives. We need to work on allowing ourselves to be vulnerable, exposing some of our insecurities and personal needs without fear, and making time for our home and family life. By working on our inner foundation and our "base", success will ricochet back to our public and professional lives. By allowing ourselves to follow our personal instincts, rather than be driven by our ambitions, we can achieve greater happiness, balance, and fulfillment in all areas of life.

I also found this: http://ezinearticles.com/?Cancer-Sign-North-Node---Your-Souls-Mission-a nd-Path-to-Fulfillment&id=241048

It was very touching.

And found out who has placements like you on: http://www.astrotheme.fr/en/celebrites/nn/cancer/1.htm
Great Fun!

Aww... thanks AG . I will have a look-see.

Oh, boy! I have just read the links AG and I am such a text-book case. Control-freakish tendencies, which have relaxed some what lately, are typical Cancer NN traits. I have kinda just let it all hang recently and LOL... I am feeling more relaxed in this anarchy. Saying, "Whatever!" is very liberating at times.

But what is true for me is this quest for information I am on. I don't know how to snap out of that one. It's like, the more I know, the more I realize how much I don't know. it's tiring.

The Nodes are giving me a new angle on the self. I think they are a tool to let us know what hangups we have, and to encourage us to let go of them to have a better quality of life.
