Have you read J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings? It is too cool!

Hmm... I don't think I've ever cried because of a book.

Books!!!!! I devour books (not literally, of course, but... hmmm... )

I like books by John Grisham for an unknown reason. I don't know why courtroom stories appeal to me. Maybe it's because of my mercurial mind trying to get into the heart of the matter through all the flak and stuff.

Basically I like stories with many plot twists and makes me think. That's for serious reading. For light reading, I'd go with fantasy novels. Self-help books are also nice. Also that chicken soup series books.

And, believe it or not, I haven't read ANY HP books!

Yeah I love those chicken soup books. My (american ) ant bought me a few. They're great when you're hitting low. I've got chicken soup for the teenage soul & for the surviving soul (I think ??).

*nods in agreement* I say boycott harry potter

Oh man, I missed out on this string! I'm a lot like Zerep there will be times when I read like crazy and then I'll just stop for awhile. After I'm done reading a book, I just sift through passages here and there! Right now, I got a hold of Bill Cooper's book so I'm reading that, and I'm also reading Harry Potter books becuase I got to them so late. For school I read, Lord of the Flies and Catcher in the Rye. Both books were pretty good. Especially Lord of the Flies, I think I was the only person who enjoyed that book. As for the Lord of the Ring trilogy I haven't read it and I don't really intend to becuase I read the Hobbit and got really bored by the immense detail. Has anyone read Brave New World? It's okay, it's about how our future could be like, if we rely too much on technology. I mostly read estoric books like Linda's and other astrology books, I read Tarot books, and other topics alike.

why is LOTR so good???? i've tried to read it a few times, but i too get very bored very quickly, it's too much information and not enough "plot moving along" for me. then again i have never read more than about a 100 pages
can someone explain it?

i didn't read anything untill the end of last year (well except for magazines )and now i'm going crazy, i dont like tragedies, if there is a couple in the book, i get very mad at the author if they don't end up together!lol , i love the Harry Potter books, and there were these other books.....i can't remember the name....something like "Yesterday when the WAr began" i think....it's a seven part series.....does anyone know it?? it's good i really like it.
then again right now i'll pretty much read anything.....

I like to read a lot of non-fiction. I just finished "Is Your Volkswagen a Sex Symbol?" I forget the author, but he makes a lot of interesting statements. Also, "Your Personality and How to Use It" by Geoffrey A. Dudley is ok, but it mostly explains basic concepts and never really goes into depth on any one topic. Very brief. I've been reading into a lot of Sybil Leek's astrological concepts, too. Straying away from the non-fiction category, I am reading Beowulf to prepare for my AP English class in a couple of weeks. I haven't been able to really get into it, yet.

To be completely honest, I haven't read any of the LOTR books. However, I highly recommend any books from the Redwall series!

LotR is a heroic mythological story, so if you're someone who doesn't long for adventure and tragedy, then that might explain why you wouldn't like them so much.

I used to LOVE Redwall, but I outgrew them a few years ago. But they are still very good books!

I will have to start on the LOTR series I haven't read Redwall in a few years, but I remember it was really good! I picked up Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul yesterday at the library and it is really good, i love it. Hard to put it down! I also picked up an old favorite - LG's Sun Signs
One I would like to read again is ALbert Camus's The Stranger. I read it in 8th grade and I remember I liked it, but I don't remember what it was about!

I just finished 'The Left Hand of Darkness' by Ursulla K. LeGuin. It's science fiction set on a world with only one gender. A rather novel premise, actually...

A little. There's an interplanetary alliance called the Ekumen, but not so much technology like phasers, warp drives etc. And no alien races- everybody is at least superficially human.
