BY CORKY SIEMASZKO
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

"Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling has committed another killing.
"Yes, sorry," Rowling said, when asked yesterday on her Web site whether there would be casualties in her upcoming book, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince."
While Rowling refused to identify her latest victim, she reassured readers of the wildly popular series about the wizard world that Potter is safe - for now.

Before the publication of her last installment, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," Rowling teased readers by revealing that another wizard would fall.

That Harry Potter book - like the four that preceded it - was an instant best seller.

Dr. Alan Hilfer, a child psychologist at Maimonides Medical Center in Borough Park, Brooklyn, said he believes Rowling is trying to protect her readers rather than create hype to boost sales for the sixth book, which will be released next year.

"I think it's an attempt to prepare her audience for a shock, so kids won't be too angry or upset when they read it," he said.

But even with the warning, many readers still were stunned when Rowling killed off Harry's godfather, Sirius Black.

And the 39-year-old British author admitted she, too, cried when she whacked Black, who had helped Potter battle the evil Lord Voldemort.

As for Potter, Rowling told fans in an earlier interview that her teenage hero would survive at least until the seventh and final book in the series.

"He will survive to book seven, mainly because I don't want to be strangled by you lot," she said. "But I don't want to say whether he grows any older than that."

Call me a dork, what have you. But I like Harry Potter. A lot, I read those books in like 2 days of their release. Oh... It seems as though the public has become involved in the writing of the book.
Let her do as she pleases, so she can fullful her potential

I wouldn't call you a dork

I love the books too. I'm almost done reading the third one to my kids... I've already read them all myself.

oh no! another one of harry's friends?!?!
*sigh* of course war has to have 'casualties' but it's really sad anyway.
i hate having harry go through more pain. although i'm pretty sure it's not gonna be anyone like ron or hermione or dumbledore or any of the weasleys since they're like harry's family and now that sirius is gone, he needs them more than ever.i've this bad feeling about lupin though...
snape will obviously stay till the end cuz he's got a direct link to voldemort and also cuz harry's gonna need him for his newt studies, after all, he has to become an auror!
everyone somehow interprets the prophecy to say that harry WILL die in the end,but somehow i can't accept that.it says 'neither will live while the other survives',so it's either voldemort or harry, and obviously in the battle of good versus evil, good wins in the final outcome.however, even if he dies, he just might come back...remember the whispering behind the veil?...
so,it's obvious that i'm crrrraaazzzzzyyy about harry potter and not ashamed to be!
i've read the whole series 5 times and am still at it!
so anyway, sorry abt the long post, but harry has a way of making me get carried away with myself

love n peace..

I have this sneaking suspicion that right at the end, the final battle happens, harry loses, but just before he is about to die along comes nevil. and Nevil kills voldemort, also dieing in the process, and it turns out harry was only really surviving and keeping the limelight off Nevil.

Yay for...uhhh....Nevil?

That's a great theory kinda like... uuhhh...

in the third book when they over hear the teachers talking with Fudge about how Sirius was the secret keeper... who ever the 'dorky' kid was that followed them around was the one that stood up to Sirius...

damn, what's his name? I just read that chapter to my kids a couple weeks ago...

Anyhoo... Your theory would fit right in with the happenings up to date, and would sort of be like history repeating itself.

that dorky kid was peter pettigrew and :SPOILER IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE THIRD BOOK!!!: he din stand up to sirius,he betrayed harry's parents, and let sirius take all the blame.
however, nevil isn't like peter.but suzume, i have to disagree with you cuz according to the prophecy the final idenitifying feature of the boy who would conquer the dark lord was that the dark lord himself would identify him as his equal.harry tries to argue with dumbledore that it might not be him and that voldemort might have made a mistake, but the final feature is what sets him apart from nevil.also, if you visit the j.k.rowling website, she says there that a lotta hints about the 6th book is in the 2nd book, and nevil can hardly be called important to the story in the 2nd book. however,it is true that nevil's story is important to the plot, but i stand by the fact that harry will kill voldemort.whether or not he will survive himself is a different matter altogether....

you don't mind?
then i guess it won't matter ;)

Nevil might see himself different knowing that voldemort killed his parents. He doesn't seem to fear him that much. Altho in the books it doesnt show it that well, he fears snape more.

nevil already knows that his parents were killed by bellatrix and her husband, who were death eaters,so voldemort din kill them himself..
and if you'll pardon me pointing this out... the books do show that he fears snape more, for his boggart turns into snape, not anyone else...

Hi all!! I'm a great Pottermaniac myself...as to who gets bumped off.....I tend to agree that it could be Neville.....the reason....well...the dark lord only knows about the first half of the prophecy,he doesn't know that part about him marking Harry as his equal....so according to the prophecy [the first part] ,there are only two people who can rival the dark lord.....harry and neville. The dark lord is almost sure that it is Harry but he decides to kill Neville anyway or at least gets one of the death eaters to do the dirty job, most probably Bellatrix.....after all she was the only one other than the dark lord to escape....right?

Nonono!! Not another character to be knocked off!! I was so upset when Sirius died, at least Lupins still alive, I hope she dosnt kill him off too...
The Neville theory seems probable, but I personally hope he dosen't, he's a sweet character.
Oh, btw, is anyone else interested in what star signs the characters are!? I think that Harrys a Leo (born at the end of July, wasnt he? Ill have to get the books out, lol! any reason) which seems right as hes bold, daring, kind, couragous ect, not sure what Ron would be? Also all the other characters (I love doing this!!)
Hermione I thought know-it-all Gemini, but shes very practical and down to earth so maybe a Virgo, or even a determined, feisty Aries... what do you guys think?

Ron is a Pisces and Hermione is a Virgo, Sun_Scorpion. I know Ron was born on March 1st, but I forgot Hermione's birthday, just know she's a Virgo. JKR posts characters' birthdays once and awhile on her website, so I hear .

Personally I've thought of Ron as a Sag.

Just finished the last few chapters of book 3 with the kiddos a little while ago.

Snape's such a creep! I absolutely love Lupin. Can't wait to re-read the next two to them!

That would be Wormtongue, Suz
But to me, Snape's less evil. A creep, definatly (lol!) but not as horribly evil and corrupt as Wormtongue.

has anyone noticed this b4...
I noticed something of numerological significance all of a sudden...Harry comes back to his world at the age of 11...Master number, isn't it? And the final show-down between him and Voldemort is gonna be when he is 17...Number of immortality and Saturn...
Anyone else noticing the links?
I was not the least bit surprised when I found out Harry was Leo...it's obvious isn't it? Although I agree with the people who say he's got a scorp moon.Voldemort is either Leo sun/Scorp moon or Scorp Sun/Leo moon...I can't decide.
And I love Ron n Hermione's relationship, they so belong together!Hermione should be a virgo..very logical, but Ron on the other hand is a bit confusing although Pisces sun/Aries moon seems to fit...Dumbledore on the other hand is definitely an Aquarian (a genius but a bit crazy ) and seems to have well placed Scorpio in his chart (he radiates power, remember?).
