So, I'm not sure if this is right place to talk about it, if not, please move to the right forum.

I have from time to time sleep paralysis, first time when happened, it was a bit scary, but after it I started to be more and more aware of it. Like, soon before my body get paralyzed and I see something or nothing but just feel presence or touch, I know it's sleep paralysis and it will happen in a second, and then I'm immediately trying to open mouth and say something, cause that's how I wake myself up the fast way from it.

I'm not scared of it, even find experience interesting, but I want to try to turn sleep paralysis to lucid dream or astral projection. As you are aware of the fact that you're dreaming, you are one step from that moment when you can separate your astral body.

So I want to hear from others who have same experience with this, what they think, if they can do it, and on what way?

If I were to try astral projection then I've heard of people who become paralyzed talking about a "humming" and "electrical vibration" that go through them (I've experienced this, but not during sleep paralysis), so if I were to attempt it at such a time, I'd try to listen for that humming or "feel the vibrations within, and around, the body" and try to increase the flow, perhaps even mentally shape them into a vessel or "astral body" to "transfer consciousness" over to.

One could look for "caves" to enter. Even if you don't astrally project, you might have a shamanic experience of some sort.

As for lucid dreaming...if I were to go for that then I'd set my alarm for the middle of the night, get up and walk around just a bit and go back to sleep. The key is having the logic part of the brain be at least somewhat awake because then you're most likely to realize you're asleep and can then gain a measure of control (sometimes complete control) over a dream...though for me, I usually just wake up.

I sometimes have what I believe are narcoleptic episodes. This is where I get so tired that all I can do is sleep (I think I could fall asleep standing up if I was forced to stand). My brain is way too tired to take an active hand in my dreams in these times, but dreams I have at these time tend to have a bit of "logic" to them (as the logic part of the brain isn't fully asleep) which can be fascinating rich with details. (It can also lead to sleep paralysis which is why I mention it.)

They can even be poignant, like in one I was so busy that I lay down "just for a minute" and was instantly dreaming. I vaguely realized something was wrong, and at some point I thought to test if this was a dream by going to the fridge. The house was all dark (save the light in the fridge) with no one else in it save several cats I did not (seemingly) know. The fridge only had several plastic containers of juice drinks that I normally wouldn't drink (too syrupy) and after I couldn't taste it I realized it was just a dream. I tried to force myself back awake and failed, and I threw the drink as I knew I wouldn't have to clean it up (the cats went to lap it up). Giving up I sat on the kitchen floor when a cat crawled into my lap, and I realized the cat was a barn cat I was fond of when I was 13-14 (and had died many years ago), and I decided I could stay awhile. (I was unable to get lucid as I was just too mentally exhausted.)

Hello MahaKali

We have discussed sleep paralysis and OBEs in this forum quite a number of times. You could search this forum for past strings.

Here's one that could give you some ideas ...

Thanks for answer! Yep, I tried lucid dreaming before, almost succeed, but wasn't very persistent and haven't practiced it every day, so results weren't great.

Sleep paralysis get often when I'm too tired or fall asleep at afternoon, or when I wake up after 4, 5 hours of sleeping and continue. So, as I can turn it to lucid dream in those moment, must be responsible and start to practice it every day. I am interested now more into astral projection, trying with meditations, mirror and practices before sleep, so I thought sleep paralysis would also be good way to success.

Did you actually went from sleep paralysis to sleeping and dreaming? Because I only experienced sleep paralysis upon waking up. So I never thought of turning it into lucid dreaming or astral projection (anyway it didn't happen much). I don't astral project anymore, but I used to do it a lot as a teen. You need to try and imagine yourself getting out of the body. You don't need the sleeping paralysis in order to do that, but I guess you could use it somehow... I freaked out because I awoke before my body did, so I could not utter a word or exclaim... But I guess it's different when you fall asleep...?
I have sometimes lucid dreams, or half lucid dreams, but I never create them intentionally. I simply know I am dreaming and manipulating the scene as I like, or try to fly, etc.

Same is happening to me every time I experience sleep paralysis, I wake up myself, few seconds after I get paralyzed. But I read you can turn it to lucid dream or astral projection if you relax instead of forcing yourself to open eyes and and trying to move.

I haven't experienced astral projection yet, I'm trying every day now, like you said, to imagine myself getting out of my body, but I just started and don't expect to happen immediately. I want to ask you, how much did you need to success? Often can happen to me to fall asleep before even imagine, cause I first try to totally relax myself and do breathing exercises and then imagination. Did you use similar method before you succeed to separate astral body?

I did a lot of meditation back than, so I was used to deepen my awareness without falling asleep. You need to lie down peacefully, relax and imagine yourself slipping out of your body from the crown chakra. Do it continuously, and you'll see result. I guess you need to practice retaining consciousness in very relaxed situations, and meditating can be of help.

I don't know if sleep paralysis is such a good gate way to such experiences, because one is often quite alarmed at his/her inability to move.

I definitely have to work on concentration (Dharana).

Like I said, you can turn it to lucid dream or astral projection before it happens, cause you are aware that you’re dreaming and that you will get paralyzed if you try to move, open eyes, cause you somehow get scared because you know, you are aware it will happen. That’s the key, instead doing it, to stay calm, relaxed. I’m telling you something I still haven’t mastered, I always stay paralyzed for few seconds and woke up, but that’s what I heard and read from people who can do it.

You may wish to consult with your 'prescribing' physician?

Could be a side-effect from medication you are taking.

A few years ago, they discovered sleep-paralysis is a common unwanted side-effect of a certain class of drugs.

Sleep paralysis - especially close to 3am witching hour - is more likely a psychic attack from dark entities or discarnate souls...You said you have seen something or something touched you.

Some cues of psychic attack:

- The symptoms seem to have a life of their own. For example, a sensation of paralysis may rise like a wave or a fluid through your body --- which does not make physiological sense, but which makes psychic sense. Or, pain may shift around in ways that don't make physiological sense. Or, it feels like you're fighting for your mind against something.

- Any pressure on your mind to let go and let something else take over.

- A preponderence to be worst at night. Generally getting worse and worse a few hours after sunset, and finally relenting near dawn.

- A preponderence to be worse while half-asleep.

- The symptoms include yucky-feeling energy. People who can feel energy may sense some nasty energy, or may see unusual darkness. If you can sense energy, you may notice it too, especially if the energy shifts and changes within you or around you. You may simply sense another "presence" there.

Note on Astral projection:
It is not a matter of mind or will.
Astral projection requires a lot of energy in the body. The higher the energy and frequency, the easier it is to project.
So, drink a lot of clean spring water ( water is a carrier of electricity), and don't eat meat as it is dense low energy....
Remember, once you peek into that realm, you become visible to everything that dwells there.

I always feel presence of some force around me. In one sleep paralysis I saw the black thing with hood on the face, sitting in front on me on the bed. In some other paralysis had feeling something wanted contact with me, more sexual nature. In one paralysis I even felt pleasure few seconds until I got paralyzed. Once something lifted me up to the ceiling corner..
I wonder when I astral project, will I see the thing, but that's not reason why I'm practicing astral projection, just saying.

Just to play it on the 'safe' side? ... You may wish to consult a physician (neurologist) about this. Make sure you don't have a tumor or seizure-type disorder.

Be Spiritual. Be Practical. ... Our dreaming lives can eerily give BOTH kinds of parallel information to us. It's really amazing 'how' that works!

You want to say that I can have tumor cause of sleep paralysis, are you serious? No, I don't need physician and I really hate comments like this, not helpful at all. I didn't ask if I have disorder, cause I don't, my question was about astral projection and I mentioned sleep p. which is common thing when you start to explore the other side. What you meant by safe side, it can have various meanings? I don't have a fear of it, even if something go wrong, it's better to face with and to learn to defend myself next time if it happen..if you meant not to play with these things.. I'm not playing and I'm not one of those who are just curious, it's just part of my path and astral plane is very important, so to pass further..

Last night I experienced something new, I think it definitely wasn't real astral projection but maybe first bigger move. Not even sure if I was awake, but I think I was half asleep, then suddenly I separated from my physical body and heard strange noise, like buzzing and like I started to push myself down, so I relaxed, then I tried to lift myself up and I did it, flied a bit in my room. The only problem was, it was complete darkness cause I don't sleep with lights on, and I couldn't see much, but it was important to pay attention to some details so to make sure it was real. I remember I looked through window which was at the corner and mine is not really close to the corner of the room, so not sure if it was really something, cause this is first time I experienced it. I even didn't tried last night to practice, and didn't lay on my beck, it was like I was still awake and just it came to my mind, so next happening was this. After some time, I just tried to think about my physical body and how my astral body turning back to physical and I woke up. I'm a bit confused, can someone with experience tell me was I close to real projection, or it was a.projection and can you project sometimes even if you haven't had in plan?

MahaKali. Oh no, I didn't mean to upset you....

I hadn't refreshed my reading of your original post.

I thought you were having ongoing repeating 'sleep' paralysis episodes. (Now I know that you were just borrowing the term, to say what it was 'like'?)

I had worked for a metaphysical organization. There were a handful of degreed researchers in one department who were interested in things like interpreting dreams, dream incubation, lucid dreaming, and the science of dreaming.

When it comes to DREAMING...
The body itself can create symbols within a dream which can indicate there's a problem with one of its systems, etc.

My reference to playing it 'safe' was about seeing a doctor for health of the 'physical' body, (not astral body).

I understand better that you are deliberately experimenting and trying to learn how to trigger or incubate altered states of consciousness (ASCs) in yourself? The paralysis was due to normal sensations of layers as the body immobilizes?

I hope you find the state you are trying to achieve.

Have a Nice Day!

No worries <3
Just saying, I really don't like comments like that, cause I know what I'm doing. I do have sleep paralysis but not much often, and it can appear mostly when I'm dead tired, if I fall asleep in the afternoon, or if I wake up after 4, 5 hours of sleeping and continue to sleep.
I know, I read much about paralysis, lucid dreams, meaning, a.projection etc.
Nice day to you too.

MahaKali...

I'm glad we're on the right page of understanding now.

Since your topic is more oriented to metaphysical-phenomenon, (rather than the night dreams and sleeping phenomenon), you might wish to start a thread, or shift THIS thread over to another forum here at LL.

You might find it more specific to your current needs. There may be people you can connect with who have more knowledge and experience with ASCs.

Be Blessed! Happy Journeys.

Mahakali, yes, I think that is astral projection. It can occur spontanuously, without former planning. Happened to me too. You may wish to bring this kind of event under your control, and for this you may do exercises before falling asleep, imagination exercises, like you might be doing already.
