Apathy

tears spring from surplus love
you said

overflowing from the wells
of naked need and consummate compassion
within the human heart

but when eyes are dry, and cannot weep

what say you then?

how would you define these listless eyes?
are they the frosted windows
of an apathetic soul, now cold and numb
immune to even former pain ..
windows through which nothing can be seen
save endless sheets of dreary rain?

or are they dry, my eyes, tonight
because they gaze upon
a stranger's form and face before me
and that stranger has begun to bore me?

if tears stem from love
as you just said

then this apathy in me must be
the desert wasteland of a once pure love

now dead

decaying, unwatered by the merciful blessing
of healing tears
choked by bitterness, strangled by lies
yet waiting, like Lazarus in his tomb
for the ringing command ..

"come forth, and rise!"

Don't discard your daydreams as impotent wishful thinking. Listen to them with your inner ear. See them with your Third Eye of wisdom. "Let those who have ears, hear; let those who have eyes, see." Follow your "daydreams" energetically, intensely, fiercely - courageously, even when it means temporarily sacrificing financial security. Your "daydreams" are your blueprint for success and happiness. Believe in them. Believe in yourself. Then follow "the second star from the right ... and straight on till morning!"

"I stretched a cord across the hug bay window
that looked out on the rose bushes and the bird bath

and I hung the prisms on the cord
one by one
and when I finished
the sun shone through the crystals insanely
till every corner of that cozy room
was splashed with dancing rainbows

thousands and thousands and thousands of rainbows!
Isn't that simply fabulous?" Venus Trines At Midnight Page 64

My favorite Cherokee Indian legend, which is really a true story passed down through many generations, is about the vegetarian Indian called Snow Foot, who would kill no living creature. When the deer in the forest near his tent grew older and sensed their death was near, they came to Snow Foot, knelt down before him, gazed at him for a long, still moment with their gentle brown eyes...then died. It was their way of offering him their dead bodies for use in making clothes to protect him against the cold, and moccasins for his feet...in gratitude for not participating in hunting them down and allowing them and their families to live out their life spans in the wilderness in peace.

As for hunting, I rarely enter into discussions with hunters, being an Aries. Too many Mars fireworks might explode. The excuse many hunters give to justify murdering wildlife is that they are "clearing out the excess population - otherwise there wouldn't be enough food, and the animals die anyway" makes me feel that their thought patterns are only a fraction removed from finding murder a likewise "practical and humane" way to "clear out" overpopulated areas of China and India and America's slums. In a worldwide sense, mankind (and here the chauvinistic term is appropriate) has always found war to be an "ideal" solution to "clear out" population. Nature herself is fully capable of solving her own problems, without man's "helpfulness," comprised of murder and killing.

Hmmmm .. their gentle grace is haunting, isn't it? Gorgeous creatures. *The meek shall inherit the Earth.* Can you imagine what life would be like when that happens?? Wow!

I never come upon a field of daisies that I don't see
in their innocent faces of gold and white
through a blurred blue mist
a vivid image of each unnecessary fight ... each quarrel we endured
and the pain in your patient eyes
so long inured to my senseless anger, when I shouted

"get out! why do you stay here where you don't belong?"

oh, Gooober, I was wrong, so wrong!
it was you who were strong - and I who was weak
you shouldn't have turned the other cheek, when I hurt you
you should have given me, as the Gaelic say
the back of your hand
for behaving that way
... but you only gave me daisies

you gave me daisies-for-forgiveness
except for a few special days, when you gave me
violets-for-rememberance
to fill the bleak and empty hole grief carved in my heart so long ago

Je Reviendrai

love is not always
doing what brings pleasure

love is also
doing what is good for someone
whatever the cost
at the moment

sometimes, it's leaving
.. for a while

and the love is shown then
in the pain given

for pain is a lesson
best learned
from the one who loves you the most

Empty

while you're out there wandering on the wind

darling

what are you thinking
what are you feeling
what are you seeing
what are you hearing
what are you smelling?

and how can you do all those things alone
without me to do them with you?

I ask you this, in these words
because I read them tonight
in a letter you wrote to me last spring

now I send them back to you
your own words
with just these few more of my own

... there's such an emptiness beside me now
where you used to be
you left a space too large to fill
with any kind of happiness

except your presence

Stonehenge Caper

do you know what it is about us
that brings my deepest serenity
my most trembling springs
and the clearest rings of the silver bells
in my heart?

it's that small funny druid thing
we do with each other
when I'm baking biscuits or taking a bath
changing a typewriter ribbon
feeding the kittens, or brushing my hair

and you're reading e.e. cummings
cleaning out the fireplace
melting wax for Christmas candles
or standing on your head
near the dining-room chair

and our eyes meet .. to lock
in a deep, deep knowing

then we fly together

touch noses

and whisper

"magic"!
