I quote whomever I please, and do not cater to the philosophy I've often heard expressed, that if we gather a man's wisdom we must gather his folly as well.~ Heart-Shaped Cross IP: Logged |

Wisdom is in everyone's mouth and nobody's heart. Wisdom is everywhere uttered. Even a shallow man has his Odyssy to tell, and it is always bubbling up, but many a man is too deep for us to get at the treasures within him. IP: Logged |

I AM... a sculpture bemoaning every gauge of the artist’s chissel, and imagining myself completed after every new stroke. I AM... the artist putting the finishing touches on his masterpiece, unable to leave it alone. I AM... the gauge that perfects the statue and splits it in two. I am Creature, Creator, Void.

"I have not the slightest feeling of humility towards the public or to anything in existence but the eternal Being, the Principle of Beauty, and the Memory of great Men."~ John Keats FATE Delicate omens traced in air To the lone bard true witness bare; Birds with auguries on their wings Chanted undeceiving things Him to beckon, him to warn; Well might then the poet scorn To learn of scribe or courier Hints writ in vaster character; And on his mind, at dawn of day, Soft shadows of the evening lay. For the prevision is allied Unto the thing so signified; Or say, the foresight that awaits Is the same Genius that creates. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

My brother D.B.'s a writer and all, and my brother Allie, the one that died, that I told you about, was a wizard. I'm the only really dumb one. I was half in love with her by the time we sat down. That's the thing about girls. Every time they do something pretty, even if they're not much to look at, or even if they're sort of stupid, you fall half in love with them, and then you never know where the hell you are. Girls. Jesus Christ. They can drive you crazy. They really can.
Girls, you never know what they're going to think. The thing is, most of the time when you're coming pretty close to doing it with a girl, she keeps telling you to stop. The trouble with me is, I stop. Most guys don't. I can't help it. You never really know whether they want you to stop or whether they're just scared as hell, or whether they're just telling you to stop so that if you do go through with it, the blame'll be on you, not them. Anyway, I keep stopping. The trouble is, I get to feeling sorry for them. I mean most girls are so dumb and all. After you neck them for a while, you can really watch them losing their brains. You take a girl when she really gets passionate, she just hasn't any brains.
Ask her if she still keeps all her kings in the back row.
People always think something's all true.
People never notice anything. People always clap for the wrong things. People never believe you. People never give your message to anybody. Sensitive. That killed me. That guy Morrow was about as sensitive as a toilet seat. All morons hate it when you call them a moron.
Catholics are always trying to find out if you're Catholic.
Who wants flowers when you're dead? Nobody. I'm sort of an atheist. I like Jesus and all, but I don't care too much for most of the other stuff in the Bible. Take the Disciples, for instance. They annoyed the hell out of me, if you want to know the truth. They were all right after Jesus was dead and all, but while He was alive, they were about as much use to Him as a hole in the head. All they did was keep letting Him down. I like almost anybody in the Bible better than the Disciples. If you want to know the truth, the guy I like best in the Bible, next to Jesus, was that lunatic and all, that lived in the tombs and kept cutting himself with stones. I like him ten times as much as the Disciples, that poor b-stard. ~ Holden Caulfield

Sometime During Eternity Sometime during eternity some guy shows up and one of them who shows up real late is a kind of carpenter from some square-type place like Galilee
and he starts wailing and claiming he is hip to who made heaven and earth and that the cat who really laid it on us is his Dad And moreover he adds It's all writ down on some scroll-type parchments which some henchmen leave lying around the Dead Sea somewheres a long time ago and which you won't even find for a coupla thousand years or so or at least for nineteen hundred and fortyseven of them to be exact and even then nobody really believes them or me for that matter You're hot they tell him And they cool him They stretch him on the Tree to cool And everybody after that is always making models of this Tree with Him hung up and always crooning His name and calling Him to come down and sit in on their combo as if he is the king cat who's got to blow or they can't quite make it Only he don't come down from His Tree Him just hang there on His Tree looking real Petered out and real cool and also according to a roundup of late world news from the usual unrealiable sources real dead --Lawrence Ferlinghetti

That which issues from the heart alone, Will bend the hearts of others to your own. ~ Faust (Goethe "Faust") Who on the child its true name dares bestow? The few who somewhat of these things have known, Who their full hearts unguardedly reveal'd, Nor thoughts, nor feelings, from the mob conceal'd, Have died on crosses, or in flames been thrown! ~ Faust
Men's wretchedness in soothe I so deplore, Not even I would plague the sorry creatures more. ~ Mephistopheles (Goethe "Faust")
I feel myself a stranger. For the sea Doth sever me, alas! from those I love, And day by day upon the shore I stand, My soul still seeking for the land of Greece. ~ Iphigenia (Goethe "Iphigenia in Taurus")
"Alas for him! who friendless and alone, Remote from parents and from brethren dwells; From him grief snatches every coming joy Ere it doth reach his lip. His restless thoughts Revert for ever to his father's halls, Where first to him the radiant sun unclos'd The gates of heav'n; where closer, day by day, Brothers and sisters, leagu'd in pastime sweet, Around each other twin'd the bonds of love. ~ Iphigenia
When the Powers on high decree For a feeble child of earth Dire perplexity and woe, And his spirit doom to pass With tumult wild from joy to grief, And back again from grief to joy, In fearful alternation; They in mercy then provide, In the precincts of his home, Or upon the distant shore, That to him may never fail Ready help in hours of need, A tranquil, faithful friend. ~ Ipheginia
Let's plunge ourselves into the roar of time, the whirl of accident; may pain and pleasure, success and failure, shift as they will - it's only action that can make a man. ~ Faust
He who is used To act and to command, knows not the art, From far, with subtle tact, to guide discourse Through many windings to its destin'd goal. ~ Arkas ("Ipheginia in Taurus") We blame alike, who proudly disregard Their genuine merit, and who vainly prize Their spurious worth too highly. ~ Arkas
