Sure. The Spanish is a little off. It seems the writer of this didn't know the language well. This is what I can make out: "Cuba, the queen of the Caribbean Sea, Brings me to such beauty. The bright sky does not bleed there. Such a shame that I cannot leave! Oh go, Oh go, go IP: Logged |

Here's what the Oh so reliable! source of Wikipedia has to say on that part of the song: quote: Final sectionThis section, perhaps the best known, is sung in broken Spanish. The section starts at about 6:34 and runs until the end of the song. The "doo-doo-doot" backing vocals make the lyrics difficult to make out for some listeners; Stills has been cited, perhaps apocryphally, as saying that this was deliberate, because he did not want casual listeners to understand this section. This section has also been parodied many times, notably in Frank Zappa's compositions Billy the Mountain and "Magdalena" on The Mothers of Invention's album Just Another Band From L.A. In the mid 60's Stephen Stills attended Lincoln School in San Jose, Costa Rica. The private school was composed of mostly upper class Costa Ricans and had many foreign teachers and students. Still there is a lot of speculation as to whether Stills has any Cuban heritage and his connection to Costa Rica. He may have been there, in Costa Rica, with his parents or relatives. Another possible explanation for the unexpected Latin flavor of this section is Stills's longtime musical collaboration with Latin percussionist Joe Lala, who is of Cuban background. Lala is the percussionist on the recording of the song. The lines are as follows: Que linda me la traiga Cuba La reina de la Mar Caribe Cielo sol no tiene sangre allí Y que triste que no puedo vaya O, va! O, va! A rough translation into English might read: How happy it makes me to think of Cuba The queen of the Caribbean Sea Sunny sky has no blood And how sad that I cannot go. Oh, go! Oh, go! A variation of this occurs on the album 4 Way Street, the live CSNY album, where Stills is heard singing: Que lástima que no puedo vaya! ("It's a pity that I cannot go")

Thanks. I enjoyed reading the hiStory behind that song. I really love Stills' voice. Good job translating. "We were both too large for one house." IP: Logged |

"Sorry, sometimes I forget I'm not in my early 60's" yeah, me too. How about this one? It's my absolute favorite. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ArczUVXrODQ Interesting, NosiS, I always wondered what he was saying. It fits nicely in there.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSnWb18s-GM&feature=related I was in the Caribbean last week for my sister's wedding... highs and lows... my hair and skin feel gorgeous from the sea. It was beautiful. T, I have always Loved the sound of that song but I never knew the words. That is one of the songs I felt was magical since I was a very young child though I obviously never understood it. Thank you so much for posting the lyrics to that one. And the link... was nice to hear it again. IP: Logged |

Two Sleepy People Fats Waller, Hoagy Carmichael Here we are, out of cigarettes, Holding hands and yawning, Look how late it gets. Two sleepy people by dawn's early light, And too much in love to say goodnight. Here we are, in a cozy chair; Pickin' on a wishbone from the frigidaire. Two sleepy people with nothing to say, And too much in love to break away. Do you remember the nights we used to linger in the hall? Your father didn't like me at all. Do you remember the reason why we married in the fall? To rent this little nest and get a bit of rest. Well, here we are just about the same, Foggy little fella, drowsy little dame. Two sleepy people by dawn's early light, And too much in love to say goodnight. http://youtube.com/watch?v=tksE0TsOdWs (I have the Fats Waller version on CD )

I always loved this song.LIVE "Lightning Crashes" lightning crashes, a new mother cries her placenta falls to the floor the angel opens her eyes the confusion sets in before the doctor can even close the door lightning crashes, an old mother dies her intentions fall to the floor the angel closes her eyes the confusion that was hers belongs now, to the baby down the hall oh now feel it comin' back again like a rollin' thunder chasing the wind forces pullin' from the center of the earth again I can feel it. lightning crashes, a new mother cries this moment she's been waiting for the angel opens her eyes pale blue colored iris, presents the circle and puts the glory out to hide, hide http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAMnjzU-6UQ

I love this one too. "My" band used to play this all of the time with their first lead singer. I loved dancing to it. (and harmonizing) So ethereal. Beautiful.

I hear the train a comin'; it's rollin' 'round the bend, And I ain't seen the sunshine since I don't know when. I'm stuck at Folsom Prison and time keeps draggin' on. But that train keeps rollin' on down to San Antone. When I was just a baby, my mama told me, "Son, Always be a good boy; don't ever play with guns." But I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die. When I hear that whistle blowin' I hang my head and cry. I bet there's rich folk eatin' from a fancy dining car. They're prob'ly drinkin' coffee and smokin' big cigars, But I know I had it comin', I know I can't be free, But those people keep a movin', and that's what tortures me. Well, if they freed me from this prison, if that railroad train was mine, I bet I'd move it on over a little farther down the line, Far from Folsom Prison, that's where I want to stay, And I'd let that lonesome whistle blow my blues away

NEIL YOUNG "Mr. Soul" Oh, hello Mr. Soul, I dropped by to pick up a reason For the thought that I caught that my head is the event of the season Why in crowds just a trace of my face could seem so pleasin' I'll cop out to the change, but a stranger is putting the tease on.
I was down on a frown when the messenger brought me a letter I was raised by the praise of a fan who said I upset her Any girl in the world could have easily known me better She said, You're strange, but don't change, and I let her. In a while will the smile on my face turn to plaster? Stick around while the clown who is sick does the trick of disaster For the race of my head and my face is moving much faster Is it strange I should change? I don't know, why don't you ask her? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rY61Si3GQeg

Johnny Cash 'The Rebel Johnny Yuma' Johnny Yuma was a rebel He roamed through the west Did Johnny Yuma, the rebel He wandered alone
He got fightin' mad This rebel lad He packed no star As he wandered far Where the only law Was a hook and a draw The rebel, Johnny Yuma
He searched the land This restless lad He was panther quick And leather tough If he figured that He'd been pushed enough The rebel, Johnny Yuma
Fightin' mad This rebel lad With a dream he'd hold 'Til his dyin' breath He'd search his soul And gamble with death The rebel, Johnny Yuma

the bubbliest bubble bath broke down on the bank the gravity of the situation is why our old thought bubbles sank humble and gracious the gravity of the situation ... humble and gracious the gravity of the situation ... humble and gracious the gravity of the situation ... well, a fat hungry english crow was picking at a carcass the gravity of the situation is hard to focus and harness well, we met Bill Lowery at the Queen's Hall the gravity of the situation became apparent to us all humble and gracious the gravity of the situation ... humble and gracious the gravity of the situation ... humble and gracious the gravity of the situation ... the gravity of the situation...

Vic Chesnutt 'Sad Peter Pan'it's the plan of most to discover that magnificent ghost when did I get perverted and my innocent eyes diverted from the view so grand imbued with distractions I'm greedy like Senior Babbitt I'm just chasing that electic rabbit I'm a reluctant rebel I just want to be Aaron Neville with a crown on my head and my denim shirt all dark with sweat I'm just pushing the paint around on advice from your lying mouth you touched me and then you ran and left some sad Peter Pan all alone and awkward but a transformation, I swear it will occur IP: Logged |
