Yeah, honestly I'm still a bit intimidated by painting, and I don't feel like I've got the proper space for it, which is why I want to explore a different medium that's more portable, and a bit easier to clean up. I'm even paranoid about wrecking paint brushes. I'm probably overly cautious.IP: Logged |

It's good to see your work again, T.You have an inspiring dominance over the wet medium of watercolors. Thanks for sharing. IP: Logged |

Yes T, I've been know to drown a worm or 2.I commented on the realism of your drawing of the rods...slightly bowed because that's the way they get over time. I thought you might fish. Didn't catch anything T? IP: Logged |

Started: Now that I've shown you this much (which is really not that much) I can ask you what you think about doing art this way. Is it too basic? Would it have to be detailed to be impressive (because I'm sure any graphic designer could do this sort of thing easily)? It's just paper on paper. What I have there isn't even glued together yet. It's just sitting there in place.
EDIT: Oh crap! I didn't even know the picture was blurry. Whoops. EDIT again: took new picture with close-up setting (replaced blurry picture) IP: Logged |

That's a good point. I do kind of like the simplicity, and I could have gone for more detail in what I have there, but I wasn't really inclined to.Actually, my inspiration for this portion of the art is a dog catching a frisbee, but this is the Far Side-esque idea I was talking about. While at Michael's last time I saw a hot air balloon on the cover of a sketch pad. I thought that that would be a great subject. So then I got to thinking about what an interesting setting would be. The most interesting idea I came up with was people (or maybe small cartoon animals) escaping from some giant-filled land by air. The only problem is that one of those dogs that loves popping bubbles in its mouth is one of the giants of the land, and is thwarting this plan for at least one balloon. Part of me still thinks it might be a bit much, but at least it would be something interesting. I watched quite a bit of a movie on Picasso starring Anthony Hopkins today. In it, one of his lovers who also painted quoted him as saying something to the effect that you can't be taught to paint. You have to discover it for yourself. Makes sense. I should try some more. I'm excited! I found a show on tv that I wanted to watch. It's called Everything Is Art on Ovation (satellite). Awesome. Maybe it's on the internet somewhere. I'm watching it now. Hopefully it lives up to my expectation. You know I realized another source of art material near me. I went to their website for the first time over the weekend, and it looks like it even has instructional videos for doing stuff. It's TAP Plastics. I used to use them occasionally when I was the Purchaser for a sign company. I'll have to look into that more. IP: Logged |

The show was pretty good, but this particular one dealt more with design, and the intersection of art and design. I'm interested in looking at a book one of their featured artists wrote. His name is John Maeda, and the book is The Laws of Simplicity. He's a super-educated artist. He has an engineering degree from MIT, an art degree, and an MBA. Could be an interesting book...plus I like simplicity, too. They talked about a few companies. The only one I really remember is Muji, which doesn't even brand their stuff. Wow! I just looked at their store, and most of the stuff is incredibly over-priced. So much for the minimalist packaging helping the consumer's bottom line. IP: Logged |

Looking at TAP's website again. Intrigued by the sculptural mediums, but there's a lot of creative stuff: The only draw back is that this all seems so chemical based. IP: Logged |
