I'll Fly AwayNearly all my life I have dreamed
I can fly. We sang it in church,
"... I'll fly away, oh glory! I'll fly away!
When I die, hallelujah by and by.
I'll fly away..." There must be a chorus over there
waiting to lift you up from your body,
singing you over as you've laid
down for the last time, breathing less,
becoming still, waiting to be shrouded. My thirties helped me look at mortality,
that last lie down, a final eruption of peace
that blinds you to all transient concerns,
shoots its rays into those there with you.
The light that Love uses to wash you clean,
make a silent big bang they'll never forget. It's that last lie down that's the best.
Now that I'm fifty, I'm already looking
forward to it, preparing to flutter free of
regret, changing my mind for the eternal
light of explosive joy born of Love. It's when
you become a diamond being again. It must feel like wings with no effort,
like being lifted from a case of lead,
like finally being able to breathe again
some purer air nearly forgotten, like
some momentum back to Source

What Am I Here ForI cannot leave this world without
creatingsomething that lasts
something so joyful
it must be digitized forever
something so petrified
it may lose its arms, but still give a stoney gaze
centuries later or
planting some seed in someone else that helps a child
grow into a better human
