I saw someone asking about Black crows and was wondering if anyone had information on doves? I see them everywhere and have for the last 4 years though i have moved clear across country. I recently had a pair nest on my balcony and start a new family there.

ladya22! Hello!

I use to have white doves. One liked to ride on my shoulder when I rode my bicycle. I will see what I can find on them.

Hi Ladya22! & Welcome!!

I have heard that a dove symbolizes Inner Peace!!

A Dove/Pigeon's Wisdom/Lesson includes:

  • Brings peace and love
  • Understanding of gentleness
  • Spirit messenger
  • Hidden Emotions
  • Communicates between the two worlds
  • New Beginnings
  • Peace
  • Maternity
  • Prophecy

The dove is the embodiment of maternal instinct. She is connected to Mother Earth
and her creative energies. Her mournful call speaks to our deepest self and
stirs our emotions. The voice of the dove is a rain song and brings us hope of a new beginning. The dove is the totem of "Between Times" and shows us the time of the thinning of the veils between the physical and the spiritual world.

Listen for her call with your soul.

The Dove

The dove is a member of the pigeon family and both hold the qualities of home, security and maternal instincts. Many with this totem will experience unsettling childhood's and will be challenged continually to acquire a solid secure foundation in all areas of their lives.

The legends and lore surrounding the dove associates it with many goddesses and it is considered the embodiment of the maternal instinct. The brood of dove consists of two eggs. Two represents the creative and feminine energies. Home and family are important to those with this totem and life lessons will be most predominant in these areas.

Since the dove is a ground feeder and eats mostly seeds those with this totem would benefit from a diet rich in wholesome seeds, nuts and grains. They would also do well in any health profession relating to nutrition.

The dove's song is its most distinctive feature. It can be heard throughout the day. The mourning coo of the Dove reflects hidden emotions stored within those who carry this medicine. How you perceive its sound often reflects the energies that are playing out in your life.

When dove appears it is asking us to go within and release our emotional discord, be it of the past or the present. It assists us in releasing trauma stored within our cellular memory. Humming can aid in this release.

Doves hold the energy of promise. When inner turmoil is cleared from our thoughts, words and feelings, the possibility of good fortune awaits us. In order to receive the gifts the doves bestows on us healing on all levels is paramount.

I also found at the site above a blurb on pigeons (since there are almost one in the same)

The Pigeon
Pigeons originally lived on the wild cliff faces of the European and Asian seacoasts. Used by the Chinese for hundreds of years to send messages they also carried money exchange rates between banks in Canton and Hong Kong. Pigeons have been used extensively for delivering messages in times of war. Early navigators took pigeons to sea in hopes that, if they became lost the pigeon would show them the way to land. Pigeons can fly for 550 miles in one day and can travel in bursts of speed up to 60 knots. They teach us how to preserver and keep our focus on the goal at hand.

This amazing bird holds the qualities of home, security and maternal instincts. Those with this totem often experience unsettling childhood's and will be challenged continually to acquire a solid secure foundation in all areas of their lives. The pigeon assists us in finding the stability of home that has been lost.

No matter where pigeon ends up or how it gets there, it knows the way home. The Pigeons gift to us is the ability to accomplish. They do not get lost because they are in tune with the natural ways of earth, and are always aware of their goals. They use all their senses equally and navigate their lives in a balanced way. If Pigeon comes to you, it is asking you to keep your sights and sensitivities clearly set on where you want to be, and start moving. Even if you don’t know exactly how to get there, by following your inner guidance you can find your way.

theres many threads on here concerning, animal totems, animal spirits, power animals ... they are sure to have some more links posted in them if you were to want to search for some more answers yourself.

Hi All

Thank you for the welcome to this forum-

Angel of Hope- thank you for finding that.
I can now see why the doves keep showing up - i am looking for security and am finding that for myslef fo rhte first time in my life.

Saturday i was car shopping with my boyfriend and when he went in to the dealership to talk shop i stayed outside and a little Dove that had a limp came bounding up to me (within 3 feet) and just hung out there for a while staring at me.

It always reminds me of a little bird (I called him Paul) in hawaii that would come into my hotel bedroom and hang out on the bed with me- he would find me all over the island. I knew it was him cause he only had one leg- why all the gimpy ones coming to me! LOL

I just got a tattoo of a Dove carrying a heart on my hip. I figured can't beat em' join em. I have always felt that doves represented love and loyalty to me since they mate for life.

Thanks again for all the input.

Off subject but it is interesting cause when i was young it was Bears for me. When i would go canoeing or camping i saw them all the time and dreamt of them and now it is Doves.

You should talk to Philbird! *whistles* Philbird, where are you? Also, there's an animals form called Heathcliffe's corner if you'd like to relate more with others about pets/animals etc.
