Hi. I am just curious how many people here at LL, have or would like to express theirselves, but are hesitant to for fear of backlash, or hesitant because they are not quite sure how to articulate (typing in words, of course) exactly what they want to say?
For example, I was just about to respond to a thread on FFA and I felt like maybe I would be the only one who had a different viewpoint, and therefore, felt like maybe I would be an outcast.
Isn't it sad that we have to feel like this?
I feel like the monkeys with their hands on their eyes, ears, and mouth.

I'm sorry you feel that way, Neph.

I don't feel that way at all.

I don't mind any backlash, though. I will say what I feel, even if its not popular.

People can hate on me for my view points. That's fine.

I can take it.

We all you, Nephy-Neph. Go to the thread and say what you think. Who cares what the peanut gallery thinks?!

Besides... you're so stinkin' sweet! I couldn't imagine YOU having an offensive thought.

thank you

it's not that my thought is offensive, I just feel like I'm the only one who feels that certain thought. does that make sense?

I am glad you don't feel this way! that is great!

Your not alone in feeling this. I also tend to feel this way. On and off the net. I tend to keep things to my self. Sometimes go as far as starting to say/tyoe something and then i'm like, Ahh, never mind, or not hit the submit button. Its something im trying hard to over come and have the thought in mind like LS does ... to say what you feel or want to say, regardless of the outcome... but for someone whos so used to being closed up and not wanting to be ridiculed, or get some backlash, or be looked at diffrently, etc ... its easier said than done.

I was like this in High School, not talking and voiceing my opinions and such, which in turn made people (who i didnt really know) think i was snobby and couldnt associate with them. Almost like i was too good for them. But - My friends that truely knew me and understood me saw me in a diffrent light. They saw the shyness and fear so to speak.

So to this day - im still working on it ...

Just be yourself ...

edit: i almost didnt want to hit the submit button for this post ...

ALD ~

Thank you

I find your posts very deep, informative, and thought provoking, I don't think you should say "some people obviously know so much and I feel embarrassed when in comparision my own ignorance is revealed" at all! No, no, no, not something to think or say!
Anyhow, I will try to articulate clearly what and how I want to express myself.

Well, I don't anyone around LL who is familiar with my style of posting would say I hold back, although I do at times in th effoert to avoid sounding extremely mean.

However, as a norm, I have little problems speaking my mind. I can attribute this to the life-long presence of cats in ym life - cats rarely, if ever, hesistate in telling you have they feel.

Count me in as a hesitant one Sometimes I feel like a threadkiller since noone would post after I post my opinion. But I've come to a point where if I feel absolutely sure in what I'm writing I don't worry how it's percieved.

I stop myself from hitting that submit button all the time. I'd say I go thru with a post about 30% of the time. Not because I'm worried about what others might think exactly, but because I don't want to start yet another brouhaha or make one already in progress even worse.

Nephthys - honestly, I can think of no one here with more grace than you. Speak up more often. You're an elder member here at LL and you should be heard.

Don't be afraid. I'll defend you.

Nephthys you spoke up to me and let me know your concerns about how others might or would take it, that I had posted something naughty.

Thank-you again for your gift of courage to speak up for what you think is just or not!!! I really respect and admire that about you.

I felt your heart was in the right place!!!

I'm even a little hesitant to reply in here!
It's like this... 2-3 years ago in here, yes sure, no worries, I'd be tenfold more talkative and expressive.

These days? Not as much as I'd like to be... I was truly thinking about this today because I was going through old strings from the beginning, nearly every page was making me smile...!

Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to know the early knowflakes...makes me warm to think about it. I wish I was around then. Really I do. But I can't change that...it's much more popular now...but that's ok too.
At least those strings are still here...I can always visit them when I want to.

I also want to make very clear that the knowflakes I have met and made friends with here are so loved that I wouldn't change that for anything in the world! I love and cherish so many of you...
Although I think you knew what I meant anyway.
All I thought was it would've been nice to meet the early ones too, but I really have nothing to complain about.

The early pages are different, aren't they? There's an almost entirely different vibe to them. Maybe because there weren't as many people posting - not as many opportunites to bump heads and opinions and such. Also, I think the topics of conversation were more limited. Just about everything was of an esoteric nature. We branch out more into the ordinary now. I think the first time all hell broke was the n_wevil/oxy thing and that was an ordinary-type problem.

LL IS a very special place. When I came across it a few months ago, I had the strangest feeling of welcome envelop me. I think I could feel Linda's presence.
I've left a couple of boards before because of bullies. I'm just not a rude fighting kind of a person. But I really wouldn't want to leave LL because of that. So I'm trying to develop a thicker skin. Scary!

Solane ~ my concern with that post was because of children. If I had children I sure wouldn't feel right having them pull up that thread and seeing that.

Everyone ~ there was a "Bite me" thread once, and on it someone had posted a picture of the backside of a nude, hairy man in bed. I was at work, doing a temporary receptionist job, and pulled up that thread. As I was using the arrow key to page down the thread, the phone rang so I turned to answer it. After awhile, I turn back towards the screen and there was that picture (backside of a nude, hairy man in bed) bright as daylight all over my screen. People walk by my desk constantly. I was so embaressed! I don't feel that pictures like that should be posted at LL.

That wasn't what this topic was originally about but just thought I'd mention it.
