Congrats and yays to you YIN! I'm very proud of you! Thats alot to lose! How did you do it? See that cruise didn't hurt you that bad!AG, I'm interested in what you said, and wondering if the life story of other artists change your opinion, once you know about them. Do you like Jackson Pollock? Have you watched the movie? It was a great movie, but a tormented soul as well. There's been nipple tickling going on in here? Geez, you turn your back for one minute....

Pollock's painting is really rubbish, isn't it? I mean, drizzle some paint all over the place and call it art. It's great that some people can attach a meaning to what he did, and maybe find some intention and some beauty in it, but I can't say that I really do. I did watch the movie.I wonder what other artists you might conjure up. I can't think of too many artists whose stories I know. I haven't seen Frida yet despite the lure of the naked Virgo lead. well, I remember studying Pollock in college art. You know seeing it in books and on lecture screens, I was the same way. I said to my teacher, "yeah, whats the big deal, anybody can do that!" My teacher said, "true, but he did it first." I don't think that is a factual statement as people have been drizzling, and accidently spilling paint since there was paint, but then I saw one. In our museum, I can't remember if it lives there or was on loan, its been awhile, any way, it was humungous. I stood in front of it just dumbfounded. The staff person was standing beside me talking about how when a pollock is shipped they have to send photos and diagrams because stuff falls off that they have to glue back on. Like broken glass that he walked through while painting, things like that. I did attach a meaning to it. I felt something. I'm not quite sure what. But my insides seem to grow, you know like the Grinch's heart on Christmas. I've been to the Sistine Chapel. True it was in 1986 during the major reconstruction period, so there was quite a bit of scaffolding, but still, it literally dropped me to my knees. Just took the breath right out of my body. I was wrecked. Frida is a must see. I have it and watch it frequently. I have the movie poster framed on my bedroom wall. She didn't really have that many paintings, but yet, her story and work is incredible. I guess another favorite is Salvadore Dali. The books I have on him tell an interesting tale, quite a character, that one. I don't know if there is a film about him, well, I'm sure there is somewhere out there, but I don't know about it. How about Andy Warhol? Does his excess and decadence and snobbishness put you off or do you like his work. Again, some simple stuff, anyone could of done, but he did first. I guess I am just in awe of the simple fact that there was once a blank peice of paper, and someone, anyone, you, me, Pollock, put something there, that did not exist in that exact way ever before that moment. That a poet puts together words from his mind and experience that were never quite assembled like that before, just never ceases to flippin amaze me. The creation. The giving birth to something is just truly inspiring to me. Thats why I never criticize anybodys work or words because who am I to judge their experience? IP: Logged |

I don't think the fact that someone is first can justify the insistence of his/its worth. But I haven't looked over all of his work. I seem to remember that he attempted to be a traditional artist first.I've been to the Sistine Chapel as well, though I don't remember it, and I was there more recently! I was there in 1990. St. Peter's Cathedral really impacted me. The sheer enormity coupled with it's age was astounding. I don't know a lot about Warhol. I know he was an Aries. I am impressed with his celebrity. It seems like he was as much a deliberate work as any art he created, but I may be wrong. IP: Logged |

OMG, Yin, I had a brainstorm! You thought you heard something didnt ya. Now that all the kids are going back to school, you could hire me as a shelver in your library, see then we could whisper in the isles, pretenting to work, you know, with open books in our hands and all that. Oh, I am a dreamer! Work would be a pleasure, I would actually want to go!!! (wink!)IP: Logged |
