Dad's side: Irish (his mom 100 percent) Polish (his dad 100 percent was ashamed of being Polish changed his name and ripped his birth certificate...I think so he also could get social security early...his Birth name was Thadeus...and changed it to Theodore and then Ted)Mom's side: Irish British (and unknown) My mom's Grandpa never talked about where he was from...his name was Gordon...so possibly Scottish...but some of her my ancestors look Spanish. Including me and my olive skin. lol

Hungarian is a very interesting culture to have been around though. Have you been exposed to it much when you were little?IP: Logged |

Interesting, rather than forget their native culture nowadays parents do as much as they can to make sure their kids are brought up with the same cultural values they had. Difficult in some cases... I'll definitely read Hetalia when I have time, it sounds interesting

My dad is from Nanning, China. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanning My mother, Battambang, Cambodia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battambang She, and my grandmother were born and raised there. However, years ago my grandmother has told me her parents are actually, originally from China. So I guess I would be 100% Chinese, but my grandmother's 3rd husband (my mother's dad) was Cambodian. So I'm Chinese/Cambodian. My brother and I are made in the USA. ------------------ "I am not absentminded. It is the presence of mind that makes me unaware of everything else." ― G.K. Vietnam war, no idea. But yeah, during the Khmer Rogue when Pol Pot ruled. You know they had people sent out to rich families to collect for money. My grandma said she gave them the amount they asked for every time, but something went wrong the last time. One of the thugs got greedy, and lied saying my grandma & her family (her husband and in-laws) didn't pay (he kept the money all to himself?). Because of that, they came to slaughter everyone. Only reason my grandma lived that day was because she was very pregnant and one of the guys pitied her and spared her life. That was her 1st husband they murdered. She had two more as the years went by. She was a STRONG woman. Seriously, I would of went ape sh!t if I saw my entire family murdered in front of me. ------------------ "I am not absentminded. I'm sure she did, but most likely she just thought about survival, and how to take care of the kid she's carrying. She seems very nonchalant when she talked about her life in Cambodia. That's the grandma I knew. quote: And did she have to go to the work camps?
She did. And I believe my mom and uncles as well. ------------------ "I am not absentminded. It is the presence of mind that makes me unaware of everything else." ― G.K. Chesterton IP: Logged |

I am a little confussed about my ancestry. My mom claims to be 100% German but her people came from Luxemburg which I have read concists on a mix of people from Spain, France and Germany. Some of my relatives appear as if they could pass for Spanish. My Father was half German and half Dutch--great ancester was a Prince of the Netherlands.IP: Logged |

I'm a mutt In no particular order...no, wait...I'm going to do by rough order of arrival date on the North American continent: * Blackfoot * Crow (a maternal Great-Grandfather for both...I don't know his whole story, just that he ended up on the east coast and a Brethren...and was also an excellent dowser - go figure) * "Cherokee" (I say "Cherokee" because my ancestors who are listed as such in the records may have been...or that may have been a lazy pastor writing that as a blanket term for "Native"). * Scotch-Irish * English * Scottish * Welsh (I will not just write "British" for each of these, because they're different) * African (escaped slaves in the mountains, FTW! And "African" is as specific as I can get, unfortunately) * "Texican" (my Father's father was "from Texas and dark"...soo...Spaniard? Mixed with some Ameri-Indian and some Scottish - last name "Johnston"...I just don't know). * Irish * German (paternal grandmother's mother was German/Irish) * Belgian (a branch of the Aspeslaghs - who were Flemish but of German extraction - came to the US between WWI and WWII) Annnd, that's it IP: Logged |
