Lara,

You may not want to thank me until you read that article, because if you get "balanced" you won't be happy anymore.

I don't want Anyone to hang for my past, Especially some over rated, half assed celebrity. And if some people on here have no imagination that's better than having a freakin ridiculous one.

Diana, i creat my own reality and i'm glad to say that negativity is not in it!

MVM- anyone who has seen a Polanski film cannot then say he's a paedo and should be now slain, simply because that makes them a supporter of paedo's having paid a ticket to watch the film!
I totally agree with you and i also think it's ridiculous to bring ones own issues into a thread and turn it into ME ME

NEXT!... zzzzzzz

Pluto's squaring my Mercury, Lara, and I've already got the conjunction in my chart LOL
I admit that it's not exactly making me sound sweet, but I hate the mob mentality. We need some balance in perspective, dammit!

Oh yeah, Scrappy. A ridiculous imagination. My idea sucks so bad. What, pray tell, do you prefer in this situation, to make you feel better?

Well, I love his films

I wonder sometimes if how much we like a celebrity colors what we think they deserve. It's so weird how subjective human nature is.

This is still going on. I remember this going on as a kid.
He gave the 13 year old champagne and quaaludes, then performed various acts on her.

13 is so young. The difference between 13 and 18 are significant emotionally, physically, and intellectually. I think many of us do not realize how much teenagers are still children in all their whiney immature ways. A 13 year old still does not have abstract thinking skills of any sort. Each year of the teens brings about significant changes.
I remember dressing like a bit of a tramp at 14, that was the style- tube tops heavy makeup, but in no way was I ready to be having sex especially with a 44 year old. A 44 year old should know better. Whether it is worth pursuing now after so many years, I'm not sure.I wonder where the child's parents were during this.

BTW Sex between a 15 and 18 year old is within the 4 year guidelines.

Looks like most of you Polanski apologists are not thinking about what your reaction would be if you or a loved one were in the victim's place. I'd like to think that you come off as so desensitized and absurd because you don't think about being in that kind of situation yourselves.

And what about "cold cases".
"Oh the victim has been dead for 30 years, his/her murderer was never found, we're over it, case closed/done/fin"

If that wasn't some famous director but some dude from Alabama, you all would be cheering.

It's all so easy:
He drugged a thirteen-year-old child.
Then he sodomized her against her will.
He admitted this.
She was unable to consent to this for three reasons: she didn't want to consent, she was too young to consent and she was too much under the influence to consent.
He escaped justice and roamed around for 30 years without having to face the true consequences of his actions.
It's about time.
EEEASSSYYY.
I don't understand the lack of reasoning here or why we are still debating this.
I'm truly effing disappointed now.

PS: If a criminal had been to jail, paid for his/her crimes and changed their attitude/mindset/turned their life around completely, then yes, I would have shown mercy and compassion.

What would make me feel better? Hmmm.. For cold, emotionless people to stop saying they are full of compassion and light! Talk about a wolf in sheeps clothing. Are people really that self deluded? I almost can't believe this crap.

No one's 'cheering', Choc.
I just think there's more than one way to serve justice. No one's said it's ok, what he did was fine. Not a person on this thread actually condoned the act.
And he could be some random moron from anywhere and I'd be saying the same (except for the part about making a film - I feel strongly about justice being served *effectively*, because the other stuff just doesn't work)

Sheep's clothing is the last thing I would say about Polanski
Just because someone doesn't agree with your perspective doesn't make them deluded, Scrappy.
In fact, I am not trying to make like he's guilt-free. I'm just talking about more effective methods for crimes, and just look at the picture with time gone by.

Why is it that all these highly emotive threads become such speakers corners for victims?

The victim sued and now it is a matter of his fleeing to avoid deportation/prison. The statue of limitations has run out on the actual rape, but he was convicted and this is the issue that is at hand.

Yes choc It amazes me how differently people can think about the same issue. I wonder is this was their daughter if they would think differently.

seems to me there's a lot of people making judgments on a case they never heard or were witness to. guilty or not, the case was OVER years ago.

once more for those who don't get it. he copped a plea, did 6 weeks in jail and paid damages. that was what the court ordered.

THEN the judge decided to renege on the plea deal, so he left.

if he were NOT a celebrity, would they still be out to get him? not bloody likely if you ask me. so this is a case of "making an example" of someone and trying to retry a case that was OVER 32 years ago.

what was a 13 year old doing there in the first place? angelica h didn't think she was 13, and probably the girl did not say so.

but the facts of the case are not the issue here, but whether it is even legal for them to reopen a case that was closed.

and if you want to hang everyone who's committed a crime better be sure YOUR slate is clean as a whistle.

Oh and how can justice be served in his case "effectively" then? By letting him go?

He's had plenty of that by now.

6 weeks in jail and paid his damages? Wow! He sure learned his lesson and never touched an underage girl again in his life, didn't he?!

*facepalm*

CHOC - he served his time!

Why do you sound so bitter? He never touched you and yet you are personalizing this, along with Scrappy.

Is it not possible to be objective here? He served time and that is that! Katatonic and my link prove that.

A lot of articles are saying that Polanski didn't know her age.
My own sister at the age of 11 looked older than me when i was 21 so it is possible.

Scrappy - please can you curb your venom! You take this so personally, it's insane!
