DD,

quote:
Yes, 8th house could be about a very deep, primal attraction. It`s about sex, baby. But not in the playful 5th house way, more in the "I want to consume you and be consumed by you" way.

BINGO! Ding, ding, ding, We have a winner!

quote:
I also have read once that the 8th house relates to personal principles and the "ideal relationship".
I even have read once that the 7th houser represents your partner, when you get to know him, but that the 8th house relates to the relationship, that has stepped the line into deeper intimacy (which leads us back to sex again. lol)

Right. This would point to what I'm talking about: the epitome of what you want.

I'm just questioning why? Why do these people entice one so?

Look at your 8th ruler: men who demonstrate qualities of Cancer (or trigger your Moon, like you said) aren't your ideal? You don't find yourself wanting to be like them?

I WON!

What did I win?

Well, my 8th house is in Cancer, but I do NOT feel attracted to Cancer qualities. Mostly they are stifling to me, and I am standing before these people and just do not get what the fuss is all about.
Well, I have Saturn, Eros and Vertex in Cancer.

BUT with all my personal planets in Sag, Cap and Aqua, maybe it is just too far away from my own personality?

But the ruler of the 8th house is in Aquarius. I LOVE Aquarians, even though I cannot really say it is very 8th-house-like for me. Maybe that is because of the natural difference between Pluto (8th house) and Uranus (Aquarius).

I am also not so much drawn to Gemini, which is in my 7th house. Even though all my synastries need to have STRONG Mercury aspects.
The ruler of my 7th house is in Sag conjunct Sun.
I have known some which exhibit Jupiter-Sun qualities. I really liked them. There was a very friendly quality, and they felt familiar, but never have I been passionate about them.

In my case it really is about the 5th house ruler Venus (Placidus) in Cappy squaring Pluto. Saturn-Pluto.

But I think maybe it depends on the chart.
since my Venus is in Cappy, and kind of is a misfit with my Sun-Merc-Mars-ASC in Sag and Moon in Aqua, I maybe tend to suppress these Venus qualities. But those are a part of my feminity, and men who are Saturnian-Plutonian somehow remind me of these qualities, and maybe make me feel more "feminine", evne though Cappy Venus is not really the typical feminine placement I guess.

Of course everything else in the chart is screaming loudly asking me if I completely have lost it now, all these muddy deep complicated feelings. Whre is the lightness? Where is the freedom? Where is that ability to detach and just walk away?

Maybe it is easier to seek these qualities in someone else.

Even though I am very aware of this contradiction in m character and I would not exchange my Saturnian-Plutonian Venus for all the Leo-Sag-Aqua influences in the world!

But I fear that answer doesn`t really help you with your question.

quote:

My DC is in Taurus, conjunct Mars. I admit that I am very attracted to Taurean's, but in a more... primal way? It's completely natural and flowing.

Good for you.
Primal brings up:
1. first; original; primeval: primal eras before the appearance of life on earth.
2. of first importance; fundamental: the primal resources of a nation.

From the word you say, I hear a kind of unconcious sexual tone. Like when a lady passed me and I started barking like a dog, maybe wolf. That type.

quote:

The type of attraction and admiration that i'm talking about stems from exhilarating fascination. When you are so captivated by someone; when someone is exactly your ideal.

I think it comes from wanting to be them. Everyone has an alter-ego, or dreams of themselves being looked at a certain way, or thought of a certain way, or wants to have a certain style. Then when you meet someone who fits the criteria of your alter-ego, you're dumbstruck! It's a stick-a-fork-in-me-i'm-done! sort of feeling.

Ive seen this type of language on pick-up- chicks-type-sites.

From what you write when you describe the above, Mars conjunct 7th is a good description.

hear what you are saying about the 7th House Ruler, but I disagree.

You could simply this further. Ruler of Taurus, as you know, is Venus. Venus equates to the effeminate. You have stated numerous times that you prefer effeminate men.

With your Mars in the mix, does that mean that you tend towards the more masculine role in the relationship?

The sign on the Descendant can also be the type of person you attract as opposed to the person you are attracted to. That said, it's also the opposite to how you present yourself.

Perhaps behind closed doors, to fulfil your inner needs, you need someone like you so that they can see you and know you inside out and also know what you need physically. Then in the outer world, you need someone who is opposite to you so that they can take you to things that you wouldn't otherwise have the personal foundation to take you. You need their strength? Their faith in you, maybe? That then propels you forward.

Which would fit the Scorpy AC being brought out by the more Earthly Taurus DC, where it literally comes from inside (yourself) to outside (Earth life).

Anyway, just some thoughts.

Great thoughts, PA

Also, Meta,

note, that the ancient ruler of your Scorpio ASC, Mars, is in your 7th house, this further emphasize the "mirror/ reflection"-thing.

Right. All of those things are true about me and my 7th house. I never really thought about the DC being more of who is attracted to me than who i am attracted to... i should really start keeping tabs on this!

When I think about it, most of the men i'm attracted to look like what I would want to look like if I were a man. I'd be an effeminate man, which balances out the fact that I'm an androgynous female.

What I was hoping to discover was if anyone else recognized the same pattern?

Like, all you ladies- think of the hunks you'd like to pounce on. Now, if you had been born a male, would you think to look like the gentleman who get your furnace a-cookin'? And vice versa for you gents?

..perhaps i'm just completely weird and this theory is dead... lol!

To be honest I have never thought about that. I can`t really imagine being a man, despite so many personal planets in masculine signs.

Perhaps it IS only me then! LMAO! I'm such an odd specimen.

DD,

Getting back to you not being attracted to Cancers- what is it that turns you off? I mean, with your Venus/Pluto square I would think that Cancer loyalty and affection and passion would be perfect for you!...?

Meta,
I have always thought that Mars and Eros drives the attraction. It triggers the "I WANT YOU" feeling.

I have Gemini in the 7th house. But I have never dated or been with a Gemini. But since Mercury rules my 7th, the guy has to be incredibly intelligent, and also easily communicate at a high level. Intelligence is sexy to me.

But I think it's more my Mars and Eros in Aries in the 5th house. I am drawn to strong, powerful men. Black Moon Lilith is also there, so that probably just adds to the attaction, to what I am drawn to.

What is your Mars, Eros and BML placement?
Does that resonate with the type of men you are attracted to?

I don`t find (most) Cancers to be passionate, certainly not the Plutonic kind of passion.

In a positive way I find them to be caring, nurturing and devoted.

In a negative way I find them to be clingy, overbearing, posessive and jealous in a whiney, manipulative (see all the things I am doing for you, I am so selfless, and how do you repay my unconditional love for you?) way. And I am really repelled by this: I am a victim and the most miserable creature on earth, even though I am doing so much for everyone-attitude.

Of cousre I know that not all cancers are like this, but those I have met had at least tendencies into this direction.
They were pretty much into the passive-aggressive game, which is not my thing at all.

I know there are wonderful Cancers out there, actually several of my female friends including my Mom have Cancer ASC. lol

They ARE really caring people, but sometimes I just want to be left alone, and try to tell that to a Cancer without hurting him / her!

Also, I think Venus-Pluto-square will be drawn to SCorpio or Pluto, but not to Pisces or Cancer. They may be in the same element-group, but still there are differences bewteen them.

VIG,

I theoretically agree with you about Eros.

Problem is, my Eros is in Cancer, and as I mentioned, Cancers are not my cup of tea so to speak.

My Eros is in 8th house and my Draco Eros is in Scorpio - THAT is more like it.

venus in gemini,

I have Mars/DC in Taurus. Taurus rules Venus- and i do like my men feminine! But I have Eros in Gemini in the 8th- pointing to a Gemini/Scorpio attraction (which is oh, so true!). The gothic musician man I mentioned in my initial post who is the epitome of perfection for me has ASC conjunct my Eros, and in my 8th house. Perhaps this explains why i'd want to be exactly like him if i were male?..

Oh, and my BML is at 0 degrees Sag, in the first. I suppose it's technically not Scorpio, but I've never been attracted to Sags...

Thank you for shedding light on the Eros/Mars subject. Do you think, conversely, that for men we should look at Venus/Psyche? Or still use Eros?

Does that mean I will be alone?

Carl,

I am on the same page as you.
Even though there is actually someone who is the epitome of beauty and perfection to me, I wouldn`t really want to be him.

Meta,

I think Eros shows in both genders what we are attracted to and passionate about.
Maybe it is a little bit stronger for women though, as Eros is a representation of the opposite gender, but i am not so sure about that.

Psyche, in both gendrs, is more of a gentle, intuitive, tender feeling towards the other.

I see Eros in a man's chart as being what ignites him. In a woman's chart, what lights her fire in/about a man.

EDIT: Psyche as how you read each other, without spoken words. Intuitive recognition.

I don't think it translates to wanting or even being alone, though, I think that some people believe they need someone else to complete them and some people see that they only need to complete themselves, whilst others believe neither. Or maybe one leads to the other.

My belief is that we have certain limitations (and fears) within each of us and that other people help us to reach beyond those - so they offer us lessons and chances for growth. We don't have to take them.

EDIT: I wouldn't want to be anyone else either. That said, I wish I wasn't the way I am sometimes.

I am not completely certain that strict separation between female and male reaction to certain planets is right.

Like Mars shows in a female chart what she wants in a man.

But then again maybe we ARE so simple.

EDIT:
But what about homosexual couples then?

I'm late for the party here, but may I jump in?

I've been doing a study on what attracts me since May. I mean, hours and hours of thought and research.

I have 18 pages of myspace blog of every front man I ever loved to try and pinpoint what it is. What is that ever so undefinable quality that I am drawn too.

If you were expecting an answer, I still don't know.

Although going by some knowflakes opinions, I am supposed to be attracted to what my Mars is in, since I am a woman. Well it is in Libra, and No. I like them. I tried to even relate with one, which fell flat. But for friendship, two thumbs up!

So looking into 8th house, where I have Sun and Venus, I figure this makes me quite intense in matters of the heart, therefore probably seeking equal intensity with another.

In the seventh, I have Merc and Nept, both in Scorpio, and THAT is about as close as I've gotten to really figuring it out.
I have loved Scorpios since I can remember. Starting with my Dad, brother, stepmom....all the way to significant others, and now my son. I think the Mercury there draws me to the kind of Scorpios who mesmerize me with their words. And I think Neptune makes me idealize the relationships, way, way, more then it probably means in reality. (err, not the family members, the men)

I think I am just drawn to this type of intensity in a person. Am I attracted to it because I lack it? I don't know? Maybe I am a little desirious of the mystery and the ability to not blab out all my feelings, like Sag normally does.

But it is more then that. I am drawn to Scorpio, because I seem to somehow relate, or have a weird memory of being one myself.

Course I do have some stuff there in Scorp, and I think while my outward personality is really Sag, my inside self feels very Scorpio.

As far as looks, I like men who have dark hair and preferably dark eyes (not a must with the eyes) and guess what? That is how I look.

I'm not sure if this is biological, or something socialized into me? I remember as a child being repeated drilled to marry another Italian to keep the genes strong. I never did it, but I am drawn to the dark looks.

Hope that helps, if not, just don't mind my out loud thinking....

I am not attracted to my Mars-sign (Sagittarius) either.

But since Mars is conjunct my ASC, it is probably too much part of my own personality.

You know, at first I was gonna agree with the consensus here that maybe we do attract those with opposite qualities or qualities we don't have ourselves. But I thought about it for a few days. I have to say that IMHO, I don't think this is the case.

Most people consider themselves to be good people. Many people enter relationships with people that are not good for them because at first, we are attracted to what we see and that's what we go for.

If a good person attracted the opposite of themselves, they would end up with a bad person. Just look at the divorce rate for proof. I think we look for people that display qualities we like plain and simple. If you are a good-hearted person, why wouldn't you look for another good-hearted person? Many of us get so lost in physical appearences and sex that we find ourselves in love for the wrong reasons. An orgasm or a pretty face does not equal love; yes it's a part of love, but by itself, it's not love. Many people mistake sex for love only later to discover that they have little else in common with the other person.

So in short, I think we ultimately want people that are more like ourselves but in complimenting ways.

I guess if you wanted to relate it to astrology, I suppose the trine signs would win hands down.

Great question meta!

------------------
Virgo Asc 6˚& Mars 0˚
Gemini Sun 24˚
Libra Moon 14˚(conjunct Pluto 0˚ in 2nd house)
Gemini Mercury 25˚
Cancer Venus 29˚ (Mutual reception with Moon)
And yes, i'm a guy!

I think it`s important to differentiate between two kinds of "opposite".

One is something that is really foreign to us, completely different, but not in a complimentary way, and I do NOT think that we are usually attracted to this.

That is the reason that I like to call the other kind of opposite, complimentary, just as GG has done so in the thread before. This is what we are drawn to in many cases I think.
Of course there are also people who would prefer someone to be like them.

Omg. Epiphany! My friend who is a boy acts like agemini... I act like a scorpio.. we both act out what we want. My mars is scorpio and his venus is gemini. My venus is libra his mars is scorpio.

I by nature am not naturally a deep person...an he isn't naturally superficial and just intellectual.....the thing is ... I'm not sure which theory this goes with. My other friend , a mars scorpio with venus libra..I was so attracted to his mars energy that I tried to cultivate it more in my personality and less airy libra an now that I think about it, he became less attracted to that..
