Is it worth it to even try?
Should it be viewed as a learning experience with no hopes for long term?
Would both have to be highly enlightened to weather the storms and differences?
Will there be a lot of storms and differences?

I think they are wonderful. It is a polar opposite viewpoint but,STILL,understandable.
You could say it was aspirational.
It is what you need but it hurts to get it

been with an aquarius for 14 monthss with sun opposite sun 1 degree orb.

had issues but none hardly ever todo with bossing or leading.

but there are many factors that probably exercise nice understanding between us.

her venus is in aries, it conjuncts my aries moon, she gets fire. im a leo sun and asc, her mars is in saggitarius in my 5th house and trines my sun - much understand and co operation.

her juptier in aries trines my sun too (both aspects down to 1-2 degres.)

my venus is in libra, it gets her Sun energy.

more importantly, her sun conjuncts my NN by 1 orb, and aquarius is the sign on my dsc. so i guess in basic senses -

she likes my fire and understands it.

i like her air and understand it (venus in the 3rd) but im also drawn to it and very attracted and want to incorporate her sun energy into me by dsc and NN (its in my 7th.)

her fire placements obvious get my fire and resonate iwth it well.

in my experience, it can work just fine, just depends on the rest of the charts. i gogled experienced for sun-leo relationships, its 50/50, which makes sense for all sun oppositions. there potential for trines, or quincunxs, or just oppositions. or squaress. its very 50/50.

hurts to get it... hmmm...

Well, letram, it sounds like you have a better situation since she is so fiery in every other area and your venus is an air sign. My own sun squares my moon so on first glance my opposite, Aries, also squares my moon. I just met someone on a dating site that I am very attracted to and he has Venus in Aries so we are already 3 messages in and they are still coming fast. lol I am trying to get info quicker than a Venus in Aries can woo a woman. lol
His Sun, Merc, and Venus square my moon zero degrees and the oppositions are 4 and 5 degrees.
Of course our Mars/Venus sextiles are both 1 degree. lol

I had a great relationship with a gemini (I'm a sag) but he had an aries moon exact trine my sun. Brad and Angelina are Sag/Gemini. There is a lot to compatibility.

Also going by divorce and marriage statistics compiled by a mathmatician, Gunter Sachs, leo women do suprisingly well with aquarius, the best in fact at staying married, followed by libra men. I haven't seen how he got his statistical pool however. http://www.suite101.com/content/marriage-and-divorce-for-leo-a46760

That's weird Mel, I was thinking about this today.
I have NO Gemini peeps in my life.
Except for my Mom's husband, and I never see him. He doesn't "like" family stuff, so he doesn't come to it.
If we are at a social event, he's very chatty and pleasant, but that's as far as it goes.

Anyway, I was even looking through my FB friends, and people that I went to high school with, that are on my FB.
Gemini has GOT to be the lowest respresented sign in my life.
I just don't attract them, or them to me.

Weird how that works!

But, I too would view it as a learning experience, and would not let that stop me.

mochai, I checked your site, I have seen it before. It doesn't look good for Aries/Libra I just spoke to Aries on the phone and we are doing coffee on Thursday. I guess I will see then what the energy is like. It seemed nice on the phone...

Gypsee, I guess I have noticed the difficulties with opposite sign opposite sex and I don't have too many Aries female friendships that are close. I dated a Gem with Venus in Aries a year or two ago and I have it in my head to watch out for Venus in Aries men and how fast they do things but maybe I can just look on this as a new friendship and learn whatever lessons are coming. I just wonder how difficult it will be and when I will start seeing these squares and oppositions in action. I think we might have the same moon sign. I'm not sure how close it is conjunct because I don't know his birthtime, just a general "morning". I wonder if the squares to my Cap AC will be a problem with our initial attraction. Just curious and having fun researching the charts.
I've had Aries men as friends and we got along great as friends. I wonder what a Libra/Aries relationship is like. I think my first bf in high school may have been an Aries...

I would say that you both would have to be pretty mature. With Cardinals, you both will always have agendas, and they won't always work together. If one of you makes the mistake of trying to strictly play teammate to the other, that person will resent that they're not doing their own thing/agenda enough.

I think it's a very nice combo, both for friendship or romance.

I know long term Taurus-Scorpio couples, especially, who are very happy and well-matched.

This is coming from an entirely different perspective

If the Suns are in opposition, then that means that there is a double whammy of Sun-Earth conjunction.

Sun ,the central object in the geocentric (Earth-centered) chart which is associated with the physical self

Earth, the central object in the heliocentric chart which is associated with the higher self

The Sun-Sun opposition could be most compatible if they are within close opposition (lets say within 1 degree) and and born during an alignment of the Sun-Earth-Node of a planet or transneptunian dwarf planet.

take for instance

I was born with Sun in Scorpio oppose/conjunct the Geocentric Eris Nodes in Taurus/Scorpio, Earth in Taurus conjunct/oppose the Heliocentric Eris Nodes in Taurus/Scorpio

I could feel strongly connected to a woman who was born with Sun in Taurus conjunct/oppose Geocentric Eris Nodes in Taurus/Scorpio,Earth in Scorpio oppose/conjunct Heliocentric Eris Nodes in Taurus/Scorpio

because she and I would not only have our Suns conjunct each other's Earths to represent our physical selves strongly merge with our higher selves but we would both share strong personal connection to collective matters involving diversity, equality, and discord which could even lead to us being a powerful couple in regards to those matters.

there is a big warning though

with the nodes of the outerplanets and transneptunian dwarf planets , there can be significant challenges that could test the individuals and the relationship.
This especially goes for the nodes of the transneptunian dwarf planets with their emphasis on evolutionary intensification.

Glaucus, our suns are not within orb at all for the opposition, just opposite sign. His sun is exactly conjunct my moon though. I don't understand very much else of what you said, I'm a beginner. I'm sure it will assist some others who check the thread who are more knowledgeable.

Thank you for sharing that, Lucia. On mochai's link above it does say good things about the Leo/Aqua and it may say Taurus/Scorp works too but it mentions Libra as NOT a good match for Aries. Maybe some oppositions work better than others? Also, since it is not an within orb (not within 10 degrees I mean) I wonder if it doesn't cause much problem at all or if it will make us understand each other even less without the true opposition... his sun, merc and venus are opposite my Venus by 4-5 degrees each.

What is the difference between a sun opposition and other oppositions?
How do they play out differently?
I understand the meanings of the planets so I get that his Mars will be opposite my Venus (he likes rap music for goodness sake lol) but how does that work with the out of orb sun/sun opposition? Are sun/sun oppositions stronger in general? So many questions...
********(edited to say that his Mars is in Sag and not opposite my Venus at all, his Venus is opp my Venus is what I meant)******
AG, I don't know of his spiritual beliefs yet, that will be coffee conversation, but he does say he believes in being positive and always finding a bright side to every situation etc. His vocabulary is acceptable and he seems intelligent. I've been pretty upfront about my agenda in general on a profile on a dating site that he has read and liked so there is a slight possibility but I don't believe I've ever met a truly mature person so I guess it depends on what you mean.

You know how simple astro site knowledge says good things about oppositions... I wonder if that only applies to short term attraction relationships? Or people who are very "whole" who have more fully accepted the opposites in themselves....

I appreciate the good conversation, all. There is so much to learn and to understand. The caterpillar is telling Alice right now, "I can't help you if you don't know who you are, stupid girl." (my daughter watching on television in the background)

even with the Sun and Sun in opposite signs,
The Suns in their geocentric charts will be in the same sign as the Earths in their heliocentric charts

so their central energies from the physical perspective are the same as each other's central energies from the higher self perspective

I don't think that's difficult to understand

the traits of the Earth in sign placement same as the traits of the Sun in sign placement

For me, I'm not just talking about your love life agenda, but any and all agendas you may have...and he may have. With Cardinal signs it may be better if each kind of lives their lives on their own terms, and join together just for the relationship. Try not to be too demanding of one another.

Glaucus, well I KNOW that YOU don't think it's hard to understand. lol I don't think I've even heard the terms heliocentric before... although if I had to guess before this conversation I would think it was the belief that the Sun revolved around the earth so in astrology is must be from a perspective like that...? or the sun is the center of the universe? that I can't wrap my mind around because my spacial thinking isn't as quick and clear as yours apparently.

AG, yes, that's what I was thinking. He and I would be good short term if we both have our own space. I have to be careful with Venus in Aries men because they can weave such beautiful dreams that the little Capricorn moon girl in me yearns for so deeply. I want to believe it so badly, I can be fooled. By helping me explore this you all have helped me take a rational map with me into the Venus sextile Mars double whammy, FIRE (Aries and Sag)man dates. I need some warmth... but I'd rather not be consumed thank you very much. <3

Heliocentric means Sun-centered just like Geocentric means Earth-centered. I pointed that in the first post

Heliocentric system
the chart is created with the Earth and the other planets around the Sun

Geocentric system
the chart is created with the Sun,Moon and planets around the Earth

The Heliocentric Idea

What is heliocentric astrology? To put it simply: it is an astrology which uses a map (the astrological chart) in much the same way as traditional (geocentric) astrology. This map contains the positions of the planets within the reference frame of the twelve signs of the zodiac.
The difference with traditional astrology lies in the map's viewpoint: heliocentric derives from the greek word helios, which means sun, so the heliocentric map has the Sun instead of the Earth at the centre.

"But we don't live on the Sun!"... This is the first common objection to the idea of a Sun centred astrology.

The second objection is related to the 'loss' of the Sun in the chart and its symbolical meanings. There is also the question about the meaning of the Earth, since the Earth appears in the chart instead of the Sun.

A third objection is related to the inevitable loss of certain points of reference which we are so accustomed to in astrology that it makes us dizzy at first. These points of reference are of course the angles of the geocentric chart: the ascendant and the midheaven, with their counterparts the descendant and the imum coeli.
Giving up these points appears also to imply the loss of the 'house wheel', which gives so much meaning to any chart interpretation and forecasting.

Let's attempt to address each of these issues one at a time.

The horrified exclamation "we don't live on the Sun" usually implies something more profound than the self-evident factual statement. What astrologers really mean by this is that the planets (including the Sun) have an influence on us due to their position in the sky as seen from Earth.
However, if we take a broader look at the matter, we soon realize that changing a perspective does not change the real position of the planets, just as taking a photograph of an apple from one angle instead of another does not change the essence of the apple.
The change of perspective however does change the chart in many ways. Not only does the Earth appear instead of the Sun, the whole structure changes significantly with different angles forming between planets and often even totally different sign placements, especially in the case of Mercury and Venus.

Here we come to the core of the matter. What does the heliocentric chart, with all its differences compared to the geocentric one, actually mean and why should we use it? Answering this question is addressing the objection about the loss of the Sun in the chart.
In astrology, the Sun ultimately signifies the spirit. In traditional, geocentric charts, this spirit is qualified by sign placement, house placement and aspects. The philosophy behind heliocentric astrology is that the Spirit is undivided and cannot be reduced by the above mentioned qualifications. The Sun as Spirit is. The Sun as Life is. There can be no more qualifiers to the very essence of being.
What qualifies the particular existence of the individual is the structure of the Sun centred chart, where each planet signifies particular levels of existence.

The most evident level of existence is the material level, represented by the planet Earth. With a traditional, geocentric chart, the viewer (astrologer) identifies with the physical environment of the individual concerned. The astrologer will see, through the chart, the planets including the Sun-Spirit. With the heliocentric chart, the astrologer becomes one with the essential Spirit of the individual and, through the Spirit-Sun's perspective, will be viewing the various planes of existence of the individual, including the material, bodily environment represented by the Earth.

The third issue traditional astrologers have with heliocentric charts is the lack of cardinal directions: there is no east or west, no north or south. So where should we be looking when using a heliocentric chart?
The answer to this is easy and difficult at the same time: as there is no special focal point (such as the ascendant we find in geocentric charts), the astrologer is obliged to take an holistic view of the chart, which is the ultimate goal for an astrologer anyway. The lack of points of reference, initially very difficult, turns around as a great benefit in chart interpretation.
Apparently gone with the horizon and cardinal directions is also the wheel of houses, which begins with the ascendant in geocentric astrology. However, nothing is further from the truth, as it is absolutely possible to use houses in heliocentric astrology. For more on this, please see Aspects and Houses in the Astrology section.

Given this different perspective, heliocentric astrology is a very exciting new field to explore. Delineations and forecasting are very compelling, so much so that once you really get into heliocentric astrology you simply cannot leave it.

Also, speaking of my worrying that I would fall into something unhealthy that I could not readily extract myself from...
This is from AstroSparkles on Facebook:

"Who knew that CHIRON moving into PISCES would have created so much excitement! Well, that move has now happened, and we have 8 years to play, dwell and unfold in the energy. Next up - in just on a day - is PLUTO conjuncting VENUS at 6deg38 Capricorn. Talk about the possibilities of fatal attraction, love at first sight, or a little bit of obsessive behaviour. Time then to start figuring out which house this is occuring in - and what aspects it might be making to other planets (so look for your natal planets 5-8 degrees Capricorn, Aries, Cancer, Libra, Taurus, Virgo, Scorpio or Pisces. Phew!)."

Mystic - It can easily be long term.
My longest relationship was with a Libra guy - and you know I'm an Aries. Of course you need to have some other things in common... like we had conjunct Moons and that helped.
But overall it's SUCH a nice connection. I've only had positive experiences with Libra people.

What I love most about Libra-influence is that these people are SOOOO reasonable and you can REALLY talk to them and sort out any differences you may have.
Neither Aries nor Libra want to have a long standing grudge with someone - so it's good that we can TALK whenever a problem arises.

This is not a 'comfy' relationship.. because it generates a lot of energy. But I like the vibe. It's great because you can learn SO much from your opposite sign. The Libra people I have been close to put a different spin on life for me. I literally see and approach situations differently as a result of these relationships. And I am grateful for the influence they've had on me.

That's a tough placement for Capricorn Moon.
Even though I have an Aries Sun - I do have a problem with Aries Venus and Aries Mercury men.
But it depends on the degree. If the conjunction to my Sun is closer -- I can handle their energy.
If the square to my Moon is closer - I get extremely hurt.
It's not so much the lies that hurt me. It's the cutting behaviour (they poke you, because they like you - like kids in primary school) and their inability to be consistent.... Very lame.

I have this with my Mum (3 deg orb), she nitpicks about my house (She's a 4th house Virgo Sun) whenever she comes over. We can't live together, because we'll end up fighting about some triviality.

Sometimes my mum thinks I'm lazy (messy house/floordrobe/etc), but I can clean like a Virgo for inspections and stuff. Pisces just doesn't notice things that Virgo does and has other more enjoyable things to do, (like be on LL). I wish Virgo would just let stuff go and try feeling things for a change.

Virgos irk me. Unless they have a heap of water but I don't think I have ever met one.

hey mel!

wow! so i am contemplating my interest in a guy whose moon opposes my sun by 3 degs and with whom i share many moon squares (both of us), aswell. i really can't explain the vibe other than to say it feels so familiar yet so different at the same time. he's a libra sun but the orb's too wide to be trine my sun. he's less than half a year older than me so some of that familiarity may be due to our generational conjunctions, but i do think some of the oppositions and squares accounts for it, odd as that may seem. i really think opposition-energy is soooo similar fundamentally but that it expresses in opposite ways and i do see *how* this can be grating or unnerving but somehow for me i feel so attracted to it. he would be my second libra and my first leo anything (i think) and i'm feeling super drawn to the opposition energy even though for some reason i've never been into (or ever really known any.. off the top of my head!) leo-type males.

i hope your date is amazing! aries influenced are definitely sweep you off your feet types and they know how to have fun! i think us air signs really thrive on fire (see, just focus on complimentary elements if you start to worry!)
