http://psychcentral.com/lib/2008/preferred-music-style-is-tied-to-personality/ [/B][/QUOTE] ... He FORGOT folk fans!!! I don't know if I can forgive him for that! I'd say folk fans are traditionally inclined. Makes sense since it represents the essence of a culture usually Creative, maybe. At ease, I'd say strangely so. Outgoing... Emmmmmmmm I'd say yes but to the general public folk fans seem to be a different species, so... Definitely hard working and hard playing Don't know about self esteem. I heard about this research before, maybe it was not the same scientist but it was suggested that music such as Jazz, Classical and Opera suggested the lover of those particular genres would have an IQ which is above average. Sure, it might be statistically but I still think it's a dangerous suggestion to make. People might start to live towards it... ------------------ [Insert catchy signature here.] IP: Logged |

LOL! I thought the same thing when I read that. The professor also forgot Emo music. How do you think that would fare with regards to self-esteem? I'm quite partial to indie music, but only because it's a bearable alternative to pop music imho. I have in fact a low self-esteem but that doesn't stop me from loving the high self-esteem genres ------------------ [Insert catchy signature here.] IP: Logged |

So the connection seems to be if you listen to jazz your brain will be more on a track to think outside the box, more open to possibilities since jazz isn't so driven by math as other kinds of music; good for generating ideas. Chicken or the egg I have no idea. In any case those types more complex, you have to work harder to anticipate beats.IP: Logged |

I think Emo would fall under indie or metal for this study. It didn't include punk music at all, which is the root of emo. Also, indie is such a vague genre... There are lots of different types (indie pop, indie rock, folk, jazz, dance, etc).In terms of this study, I like "indie" and "metal," although I don't think my self esteem is particularly low.
