Neither here. I have a group of friends and I assume I am liked among those, but there are people I only share a "hello" and "goodbye" with and no more, and people I was friends with once that I hardly seem to talk with anymore. So I'd say I'm in the middle somewhere: I have no problem attracting people if need be, but I don't attract people all the time, people don't rush to meet me or want to hang around me. I'm much happier hanging out with good friends (mine or my boyfriend's) than having to converse with people I hardly know.

Which is something I realized about myself only recently.

Interestingly, my 3rd house (neighbours? ), 7th house (others in general, right? ) and 11th house (social gatherings, needs no introduction really) are ALL in air houses. Especially my 11th house is in very people-oriented Libra, not to mention that the rulers of all those houses are in 1st, you could expect me to be quite popular. I am liked by most people, certainly, but I would never consider myself popular. Social and open, yes, but not popular. Then again, you need to be assertive to be popular, sometimes even quite bossy, neither of which I'll ever be.

... Oh, I should add: in school I used to make myself rather unpopular by always rooting for the underdog and preferring to hang out with the "outcasts" because then at least I knew they hung out with me because they liked me, not for some or other selfish reason. Interesting to add might be that I never cared about fashion in those days and did look a bit frumpy most of the time, which also added to the popular people avoiding me (or talking with me when no one noticed, which was kind of interesting in a way because it showed that popular kids did think I was interesting despite me not caring about looks)

exact same reason why I sometimes prefer choose my friends, some only want you for their own benefit, you don't really know if you could trust them! but I don't really mind being friends with different kinds of people, it makes life interesting to me and not boring, I get to learn new stuff and tbh, out of all my friends in my school, though many, I probably could only trust one or two

You have Chiron in the 3rd like I do. Do you feel it is a struggle to express your real self?
Do you feel like you are only happy when you are being the real you, but find it hard to break out of what you were told you should be?

I think popularity could be shown by an upper hemisphere, air planets and an approachable ASC.

Here is my (anti-social) chart:

On the surface, my chart is deceptive. I have air signs, mostly upper hemisphere, social main planets. If I just said “Leo with Aquarius rising, Moon in Libra” then people might say, “oh yeah, tons of friends there!” If I could be light and airy about things then I think I could be more popular. But looking deeper - Pluto in the 8th, Moon Conjunct Pluto makes me guarded, or more aware of people’s motives, or less likely to take things lightly which scares some people, usually women. Then the Uranus squares which makes me inexplicably say weird things or even break off communication. I always say that I am “one poor correspondent and too-too hard to find” because unless we are best friends then it could be an on-off situation without explanation.

I know it sounds b(w)itchy, but I am not mean to people I am just like “Hi…bye” always very polite but I prefer deeper connections or no connection at all. Plus I have learned from my bad friend experiences (Neptune in the 11th square Saturn) that I have to keep things short and sweet. For myself, guys are better at that than women. I mean, I can be attached at the hip with a guy and we will stop talking because we suddenly got busy or we are dating other people, maybe for years, and we can see each other, years later, and just pick up where we left off no drama. Women on the other hand are truly offended and are like “oh, why do you want to talk now?”…okay, my bad, go away, whatever, I’m not your boyfriend so I don’t feel the need to argue with you about my whereabouts. I won’t say all women though, because some women are just like me and they prefer deeper connections and understand that we have to be all in or nothing. I have good “see you when I see you” relationships with these women. I have found that water sign women have really been understanding, now that I think about it. Probably because they are deeply involved in what they are doing also.

haha! tanks! well for one.. he lives in so cal and im living in tahoe right now so its really hard for me to be there when something happens. but when i come to see my familia and if i do see any of those little turds that are mean to him or whatever ill give them a verbal smack down haha. im so protectice of my loved ones. i think the 12 year age gap gives me and them a disadvantage, i dont want some parent freaking out cause i made their kid cry by tackling them or somethin. ha just kidding but not. im for the most part very calm and i can see the good in everyone, but if i see ANYONE treating anyone i love in a mean way im like a vicious cat! ha

im the oldest child, i always wished i had an older brother or sister that would stick up for me cause i grew up a single child until i was 12,but i have a protective family so it was ok but not like a sibling. i bet it was so awesome have your big bro stick up for u and scare the meanies at school growing up! hehe

I dont really consider my self an outcast nor popular... But If I had to choose what people say about me, then I would say an outcast..

I need a lot of solitude, and peace and quiet. Sometimes when I cant get it, I will call out sick from work (rarely) and just lock my self away in my house...

I dont really like being in crowds, or around people I dont really know...
I have been working on being more social.. Im way better one on one..
I just dont know what to do or say in large crowds..
People think Im shy, but Im really not... Im just not comfortable.. I shut down, when Im not in a comfortable position.

People always talked to me and included me and I was never made fun of for being fat (that i know of, or to my face anyway) even but I was eccentric and did crazy things, I was like the court jester so thats probably why they kept me around, for entertainment.Hmmm I can get really chatty but only with selective people. I guess i like talking to people but only if I want something out of it. I like to analyse people and its my social experiment when i choose to talk to some people and see the reaction i get if I say something a certain way or do a weird thing etc... I like attention! Buuuut its hard for me to make a connection with people because usually I lose interest or I never really wanted to be friends in the first place. I know how to reel people in but I dont know how to keep them. I lost my closest friend due to change, just drifting apart. What really prevents me from making new friends is that I hate common small talk. If it's not something important or of my interest then why should I talk to them? I have a hard time caring about what people have to say! I wish I could but I really know that all I'm interested in is hearing the gossip and getting to know their secrets. I care for the 2 friends I do have at least. Sometimes I avoid them because its too stressful because I have to be alert and entertaining and say the right thing etc... And I feel like if they never made the effort to contact me or say lets hang out Id forget to call them or Id be too scared to contact them after a long long while. I get embarrassed to initiate things at times. So I'd say I'm social and willing to talk but I need others to either make the first move or if I convince myself to just do it then I will. I guess I complicate things gah! I am my own worst enemy. Im naturally inclined to be social with anti-social tendencies when I try to hurt others so that I can protect myself.
Sorry that was long! I rambled!! See I get too chatty. I have Libra Asc trine Venus but Mercury squaring Libra Asc. I suppose those are indicators of something towards sociability right? Cap sun/venus/merc, scorp moon, sag mars. All the majors. Oh but I have retro venus btw which I heard was terrible and that it makes me a vile person lol... Eh *I'm wishy-washy so my opinions about anything can be subject to change at the drop of a hat!*

I relate to this, totally. I have some similar placements and can co-sign most of what you said. I think this is a really good example of why it's important to take the whole chart into account and not stereotype people by signs or what half of the chart the planets fall into.

In my experience though it's always the females who are more cool about that sort of thing, it's always the guys who get weird on me about it. And the odd part is I usually leave because they give me the impression they don't want me around; then if I come back they throw that type of tantrum. It's like they expect total devotion despite doing nothing to deserve it and treating me like 5h1t, it's weird to me. Then they get angry and feel betrayed. At first I used to actually blame myself and feel like I was in the wrong because of their reactions, then I thought about it and realized I wasn't. So now I'm like, "If you want devotion you have to conduct yourself in a way towards me that shows me you're worthy of it. I'm not martyring myself for you."

I keep a select circle of friends and I think I'm "popular" within that group (perhaps, my Sun and Moon in Air). BUT, at heart, I really like being alone (Virgo Venus and Mars?).

I have the same problem. I tend to get "noticed" by people (Leo Rising?)even when I'm trying to "hide". Because of this, I generally avoid "team" settings, because I almost always end up on the outside with people saying I'm "bad", "evil", etc.

I'm no expert, but I've thought that roblems with being an outcast might be due to having my Chiron in the 11th house. see here: http://www.bobmarksastrologer.com/chiron21.5.html

Here's an "outcast" chart:

With all that air and planets on the top half of my chart, you'd think I'd have a ton of friends, but I'm probably more of an introvert. When I was a teenager it was bad, I was so shy. Now I'm very friendly and make conversation with EVERYONE (I'm a massage therapist so I have to get a long well with people and put them at ease), but as far as deeper connections go, it's difficult. I do a lot of social things, but more spiritual events rather then going to a club or something. I remember going to bars a couple times in college and it just was NOT my scene.

It seems like a Gemini Moon would be flightly or superficial, but I feel I think more deeply about things then these around me. I have a degree in Philosophy so I like to ponder deep questions. I'm also currently a student in a Hermetic Order.

Even with some of my family, I love them but they seem so superficial to me so it's hard for me to relate. People have told me that I can be too analytical but emotionally I feel deeply too, though I'm not sure where that shows in my chart. I don't always show that side but it's there.

DowntoMars...your chart looks sexy LOL

Some people sometimes mistake me for shy when really I just don't want to be around them Funny how that thought never enters their minds (!)
Not popular, not an outcast, what I am is incredibly selective/picky. Also v.aloof to those I'm not liking, so to me it's obvious, if I'm warm and sweet to you, you're in, if not, please stay away. But for some reason I attract many more people than I want to let in. Always feel like I'm running from someone and it is maddening.
Asc Leo, Sun Pisces in the 8th, Sun less than a degree from inconjunct the ASC, Moon/Venus Capricorn sq Saturn/Pluto, Aqua Merc conj DSC. ASC ruler Sun sq DSC ruler Uranus means I need frequent breaks from relating and find it difficult and unappealing to sustain many relationships, I throw others who expect me to stay on an even keel because when I break I need to be completely alone and that's when Saturn/Pluto take over v.strongly and I seem like a different person to my usual Leo/Pisces/Uranus self. I've ruined friendships because I don't explain myself, that I need a break from relating, I just leave because the relationships all of a sudden start to feel v.demanding and I start acting aloof toward them. I can see how I confuse others. I come back around eventually, but there's no telling when and there's no telling when I'm going to leave again.

downtomars,

define being sociable, first thing I would look for are planets in 11th and you have neptune there.

wherever neptune resides is where we make sacrifices..have regrets.

Neptune in llth House – succeedent house
Unusual, idealistic friendships and group associations. ¬Generosity and spiritual guidance received from friends. ¬Sensitive to the needs of others. May join spiritual groups.
View friends in idealistic manner. Your idea of ¬sympathetic friend sympathetic ear! Also your ear would be bent from your friends and this would be an area of comfort for you.
Sacrificial things done for friends that others wouldn't.
Can even wear the rose tinted glasses here, because you will think they were worth it. Bad aspects cause disillusionment, even so would have been worth the price (perhaps moved away or ¬emigrated, but even the memory would be cherished). Encourage spiritual groups of like minds. Non competitive team work. Inspire others and friends nurturing.

mars opp neptune could suggest questionable relationships..
Mars square Neptune
Mars Neptune Square Mars Neptune Opposition
Painful things either ignored ie self deception, or hypochondriac type, imaginary things (Neptune) Deceive or be deceived http://www.astrologyindepth.com/Mars_square_Neptune http://www.astrologyweekly.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13104&page=2 http://www.astrologyweekly.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11521 http://astrology.astrozoom.com/index.php?title=NEPTUNE_PARALLEL%2C_CONJUNCTION%2C_SQUARE_OR_OPPOSITION_TO_MARS

your chart ruler is a singleton and afflicted by squares to sun and mercury.

sun square uranus will add impatience, and some aquarius traits, mercury square uranus make for a quick mind and speech but also argumentativeness...

So you chart functions best on one2one relationships, in fact you may feel bereft without one..?

maybe you want to research uranus conj MC. or if you have already then please ignore....

Yep, scorpio Asc is super private and not overly sociable.

Pluto in 1st House – angular
Tends to be a loner and hold innermost self aloof from those around. Penetrating gaze. Person power and will is indicated. Much more below the surface than is shown above. Very private person – holds secret
Tunnel vision when concentrating will always finish things.
Usually deep penetrating eyes. Intensity comes over even when being silent
A marvelous sense of purpose is generally present, and must be expressed and fulfilled otherwise an inner seething and sense of dissatisfaction may be the result
If Pluto is afflicted and could cause deep rooted psychological problems that can emerge as physical ailments.
The nearer Pluto lies to the Ascending degree, the stronger its influence will be. The planet's influence will darken the personality, adding an incisive and deep, emotionally intense quality.

pluto conj Asc would certainly add to powerful strong and not showing much to others, but much more underneath...

I'm an outcast and a big-time introvert.

*Does a double take* Really, Regardes, you are? But...but...you're so friendly!

Wow...

The funny thing for me, reading all these posts, is how much I don't care if people are popular or loners, I like everyone the same.

I get along with virtually everyone in real life, but I'm a loner.

I'm a Capricorn Sun, and it's a singleton. Full disclosure:

When we look at the charts of famous people who have natal Sun singleton, we find some very peculiar individuals. They tend to think of themselves as special. Their inner adult that is so creative is uniquely special. They tend to see themselves as misunderstood, misplaced and/or displaced. They see themselves as the right person at the wrong time, the wrong place. This leads the person to cast himself as the loner, the lone wolf, who knows no one is going to understand his or her specialness. http://www.astrologyclub.org/articles/singletons/sun/sun.htm

Oh but I'm sure you people are starting to understand?

LOL Kidding!

I think my Leo ascendant is what makes me sociable, but my Pisces moon picks up everyone's vibes and it can be draining.
