Makes sense, Cancer is ruled by the Moon.

Taurus, also, because it is ruled by Venus.

They're nurturing by nature and can be very moody. I guess one possible outlet would be to soothe themselves with eating. It's seems to be the case with my sister. :/

I have since (mostly) fixed this problem but i would actually undereat when stressed. Sometimes days at a time. I have alot of scorpio and pluto energy + a lot of gemini energy. I hadenough though being skinny and now have a decent chunk of muscle on me . I always attributed under eating to mercury in gemini and my libra rising.

I also love food! I used to snack at midnight every day for like 2 years. Ice cream and like chips and fried crap.

Gotta love it <3

I would attribute your under eating to your Moon-Pluto conjunction, as Moon represents nurturing (food) and Pluto is control. Also the ruler of your 6th is Neptune which is conjunct Saturn (control) and opposite Mars, and Mars is not exactly a "nurturing" planet.

I have many siblings. Two of which struggle with fluctuating weight while living over the healthy weight for their body type. I'm only going to focus on one for the purpose of this discussion.

She is a Cancer Sun, Moon Aquarius, Mars Capricorn. Who has struggled with being overweight for most of her life. She's an intense emotional eater. Completely oblivious to this characteristic within herself. She has a trainer who was hired to help her manage her weight for the past 2 years however those efforts go to no avail because my sister doesn't manage her diet well and when she goes through bouts of depression or moodiness she overeats. I'm sincerely concerned about her weight and overall well being. I want her to reach a place in her life where her focus is on things that she's passionate about instead of spending every living moment concerned about her weight. She's in her mid to late 20s. It's hard, I feel for her and want to understand what makes others emotionally eat and allow their emotions to be the sole dictators of their lifestyles.

I'm a Libra Sun, Moon Aries, Mars Aries and I've always maintained a balanced and healthy weight. I've done dance and athletics since I was an infant. I'm incredibly athletic and have lactose intolerance which makes me very particular about my diet. Usually when I get emotional or stressed I do the opposite of her, I'm unable to eat or I throw up. I have to remind myself to eat when I'm stressed or I'll pass out because I run a low blood sugar as well. It makes me wonder if things related to weight really are psychological or genetic? Can that be revealed in a chart?

Insights? What's your Sun, Moon and Mars position, include house locations if they help to further explain. Are you or do you know anyone who uses food to soothe the pain of emotional distress? Have you struggled with weight issues? What motivates you to take care of your body and to be healthy?

Look for afflictions of the Moon (nurturing, security, emotions). I heard Moon-Pluto hard aspects might indicate propensity for eating disorders.

My mom is a typical Cancer and she seems to have healthy eating habits. I really think it's the aspects to the Moon that you need, not just the Sun Sign.

I'm an emotional eater too, although fortunately i've never been overweighted. On the other hand, my digestive system is very sensitive and often unbalanced.

When i have a hard time, especially if its something emotional, i always want to eat a LOT, and i think it does help me to regain my balance, so i try not to feel bad about it.

I also have Moon in Virgo, it squares Chiron, and trines my Venus in Taurus. My 6th house cusp is Aquarius, and Uranus is conjunct Saturn.

I know five people with Taurus placements, and only one of them is really skinny and guess what? He has an Aries moon. The other two Taurus' both have Pisces moons. Next is a Venus in Taurus but his weight problem isn't that serious. Finally, there's me with a Taurus moon opp. Pluto in the 6th, but trine Saturn (although I wonder if that adds to the heaviness)

Taurus, 6th house, Cancer...

I have a Taurus moon, in the 6th (tho part of 3 tight Tsquares to Merc, Mars and Jupiter, oppo Uranus, and Moon oppo Scorp asc.) My Pisces sun is in the 4th.

Comfort, comfort, comfort.

Tho, my Aquarain ability to reason reminds me that at my age, especially, I NEED to eat well..but when the emotions rule...

Yup a terrible emotional eater.

Great thread!

No, what you need to do is look for the ruler of the pituitary and adrenal glands because your sister likely has a pituitary or adrenal tumor causing the moodiness and weight gain and ravenous appetite because of the metabolic chaos caused by the steroids the tumor produces. It's CO-OCURRING. Contrary to what they tell you, these tumors are very common. I have a pituitary tumor and they cause an extreme weight gain, especially if it produces too much cortisol. That's known as Cushing's Disease. She could also have Growth Hormone Deficiency and/or Hashimoto's Thyroiditus or the tumor could cause Pan-Hypopiuitarism. All the above can cause a myriad of health problems like diabetes, muscle weakness, back pain, high blood pressue, heart disease, neck pain, infertility, insomnia, depression, anxiety, hair loss, excess facial hair and extreme weight gain and centripetal obesity. It's the most un-diagnosed disease in America.

I would hazard a guess that emotional eating will be something to do with the placement of the moon and ascendant.

Although, I have noticed a propensity to gain weight in Cancer and Pisces folks - moons and suns.

So, it seems we have decided that the emotional over-eaters are somewhat "watery" in nature and or, like The Bull, needing comfort?

Marianne Williamson has a great book:

"A Course in Weight Loss"

A spiritual approach to natural weight loss, teaches us to love ourselves...and not the food we so much reach for in times of emotional crisis.

Us wateries can be too empathetic, too sensitive, too ready to take on the worlds problems and forget about ours...

Thanks for sharing! I will do research and suggest it to my sister. She's water and fire. The water seems to dominant though and pour out all that fire. My sister is very caring but she does so at her own expense, trying to be everything for everyone and using food to soothe the emotional stress of carrying other people's baggage. It's a tough habit to break.

There is another book, more for "Christians"
called the "Weigh Down Diet" which I have and love, but could not finish cause it references Christianity too much,

Still the principals are the same...

Ask for help from "Spirit"

Poster child for emotional eating here.
I wish I was one of those people who just stop eating when being upset or stressed out. When I am sad, nothing helps me more than some chocolate.

Sun/Mars in Cancer - 10th H
Moon in Cancer - 9th H
6th H in Pisces

Choc and Crabbypatty,

A question for you both. In dealing with being emotional eaters have you over the course of your lives found ways to temper it? Even if just for a couple of months? If you've ever experienced a period of time where the desire to indulge in emotional eating subsided what would you each pinpoint as the catalyst for that? Would you consider emotional eating a nurturing reaction to soothe yourself? Only say what you feel comfortable revealing. My sister has Cancer placements like you both and I definitely see a pattern.

No one's blaming anyone here. It's peaceful discourse. I truly appreciate your response in regards to a possible medical diagnosis.

Anything as far as health goes can be medical related, I completely agree. But for the purpose of this thread I'm interested in drawing conclusions between astrological placements and eating habits. Specifically water placements and emotional stress that might be the cause for emotional eating.

I'm not ruling out medical possibilities, but for this thread I was interested in understanding those who can identify their overeating as a result of emotional distress and how that plays out astrologically in their natal charts.

Only check out chart and high risk of addicion. Addiction of food, alcohol, smoke and so on are the same but the food .....are one of the worst because the high risk of trigging the addiction when you put something in the mouth. You can stop smoke and go of that kind of addiction but no one can stop eat. Eating disorder will easy be a big problem.

But the point is they're not separable. You have to look at the PHYSICAL aspect that's causing the feeling and the behavior because they're both BOTH ORGANIC, not "psychological". The hormones are what cause the cravings and the hunger and the despondent thoughts aka emotions at the same time. It does no good to look for addiction if the person is just responding to a compulsion caused by their BODY. Let me shoot you up with a little hydrocortisone or solu-cortef and see if you can control your emotions, hunger OR metabolism. Just because a person doesn't have a pituitary or adrenal tumor they still have hormone fluctuations and appetite is ALWAYS controlled by hormones therefore there is always a physical origin.
I had to learn these things when I discovered I had this disease. The american public is so disinformed on these issues and I think it's because the drug companies make billions off of obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and everything that goes along with endocrine dysfunction. They just come out with a new drug to treat the individual symptoms and let the disease rage. Remember just 15 years ago they were still blaming the patient for "giving themselves ulcers" by worrying. Then there were all the mothers who got the blame for their son's erectile dysfunction. They didn't admit these things had a physical cause until they came out with the drugs that they made billions from. Before that, it was the therapists raking it in by telling these people it was repressed memories or some such nonsense. It's time they admit that "emotional eating" is the same.
Anyway, bottom line is you need to be looking for the ruler of the pituitary, adrenals, ovaries, and that kind of thing if you want to know what signs are afflicted with this problem. There was a guy a couple of years ago who did a poll on astro.com about hormone imbalances. You might try the search option to see what he came up with.

These sites give the planets and the corresponding glands-
