We discuss weight a lot on this forum and I wanted to add one more thread about it! I have many siblings. Two of which struggle with fluctuating weight while living over the healthy weight for their body type. I'm only going to focus on one for the purpose of this discussion. She is a Cancer Sun, Moon Aquarius, Mars Capricorn. Who has struggled with being overweight for most of her life. She's an intense emotional eater. Completely oblivious to this characteristic within herself. She has a trainer who was hired to help her manage her weight for the past 2 years however those efforts go to no avail because my sister doesn't manage her diet well and when she goes through bouts of depression or moodiness she overeats. I'm sincerely concerned about her weight and overall well being. I want her to reach a place in her life where her focus is on things that she's passionate about instead of spending every living moment concerned about her weight. She's in her mid to late 20s. It's hard, I feel for her and want to understand what makes others emotionally eat and allow their emotions to be the sole dictators of their lifestyles. I'm a Libra Sun, Moon Aries, Mars Aries and I've always maintained a balanced and healthy weight. I've done dance and athletics since I was an infant. I'm incredibly athletic and have lactose intolerance which makes me very particular about my diet. Usually when I get emotional or stressed I do the opposite of her, I'm unable to eat or I throw up. I have to remind myself to eat when I'm stressed or I'll pass out because I run a low blood sugar as well. It makes me wonder if things related to weight really are psychological or genetic? Can that be revealed in a chart? Insights? What's your Sun, Moon and Mars position, include house locations if they help to further explain. Are you or do you know anyone who uses food to soothe the pain of emotional distress? Have you struggled with weight issues? What motivates you to take care of your body and to be healthy? I wanted to start a thread about emotional eating, too, a while ago.I have this problem. When I am depressed or upset I overeat. Sometimes I overeat without any apparent reason. It's awful. I think you should look at the position of the Moon, the condition of the 6th house (diet & health), the ruler of the 6th and Venus and Jupiter for excess and overindulgence.

Thank you so much for sharing. What are you placements? Can you draw a line between your eating habits and your natal chart? Are you also able to pinpoint what your feeling in the moments when you succumb to the urge to overate? A feeling of overwhelmingness or unsureness, does it feel like your filling a void emotionally? Is consuming food therapeutic? If you don't feel comfortable answering, please don't it's a touchy subject. Here are my Cancer Sun, Moon Aquarius sisters placements. Retrograde Jupiter in Pisces (8th House) Retrograde Mars and Retrograde Neptune in Capricorn (6th House) Venus in Virgo in the (2nd House) Ruler of her Sun the Moon in Aquarius (7th) Sun Conjunct Mercury in the first house IP: Logged |

I don't emotional-eat. I only eat when I'm hungry or when I'm bored or when I just have a craving for something. I've never had a *true* weight problem ever, although once I shot up to like 114 I think? Which doesn't sound like much but when you're five feet tall you start to look a little portly. What happened was that I had somewhere along the way started making eating a hobby of mine - once I realized I was getting stout, I went back to the other things I would usually do to occupy my time and started pushing back from the table and not stuffing my face all the time and my weight balanced itself out again.I think I've read that people with strong Plutos tend to not be as quick to gain weight? I know I've seen Mercury referenced in connection to weight as well and I have mine angular, conjunct my descendant and in opposition to my ascendant. IP: Logged |

Emotional eater over here! Gem Chiron in the 6th; square Moon, trine Jupiter, opposite Uranus. Ruler of 6th (Taurus Venus) in 5th; sextile Mercury, trine Moon, opposite Saturn, square Jupiter. Virgo Moon in 9th; trine Venus, trine Neptune, sextile Mars, square Uranus. I'm also a Cancer Sun. IP: Logged |

Can you post your sister's chart? It would help.As for my placements, I have Venus and Jupiter conjunct in the 6th (Venus being the ruler of the 6th), sextile Moon in early Virgo. So there's a connection between emotions (Moon) and diet (6th house) and Jupiter brings excess. My Moon also squares Mars (and Pluto), which I read somewhere can lead to overeating, as well. Actually I don't know what exactly makes me overeat, I can't really explain it. Sometimes it feels like an urge, like hyperphagia, when you literally lose control and just can't stop yourself. Other times it's more relaxed, but the excess is still there. It doesn't actually have to be related to psychological issues, it can be because of bad habits, or some biological imbalances. I am pretty sure genetics play a huge role in this. Overcoming bad eating habits/emotional eating is very difficult, mainly because it can act like a defense mechanism: food brings reassurance when feeling distressed. It *is* a bit like "therapy" as you said, except that in the end it only makes you feel worse.

When I quit smoking, my emotional eating increased. Then I started smoking again and the eating has subsided, but it's still a bit of an issue. IP: Logged |

Fondue Knight, interesting how we have some similar aspects: the ruler of your 6th is Venus in its own sign Taurus, mine is also Venus in Venus-ruled Libra; both sharing a hard aspect to Jupiter, in your case a square, in mine a conjunction; we both have a Virgo Moon in aspect to that same Venus.. Hmm I'm seeing a pattern here. IP: Logged |

Interesting indeed! I wonder if having Moon in Virgo is significant or if any moon placement would produce similar results. My Moon-Venus trine is loose, but the Venus-Jupiter square is tight. IP: Logged |

I don't think it's just the Virgo Moon, it really is a combination of things. But the 6th house definitely plays a role, it seems. IP: Logged |

My sister is 500 pounds, at 34 she cant hardly walk like a normal person anymore and has bad health problems, she is literally killing herself with food and she will not stop! She has moon square saturn 0 deg. Moon-saturn aspects are extremely common in the charts of people with eating disorders. I have the same aspect and I have been bulemic on and off for years though I am not that overweight. With my sister though, its an extreme form of gluttony, I have never seen anyone eat so much. Food is her drug. Her venus is in cancer and venus in cancer is listed under gluttony in my book Dictionary Of Medical Astrology.IP: Logged |

Took another look at her chart- sun conj saturn in 12th(so opposing her 6th, which is empty). Moon in scorpio in the 3rd square saturn 0 deg. Venus in cancer in 11th very loosly conj jupiter in cancer. Venus also trines moon. Her mars is weak(she refuses to exersize).IP: Logged |

I don't seem to have an appetite to eat when I'm emotional. It might be more a cancer placement thing? Or Taurus?IP: Logged |

scrappydog, I'm sorry for your sister. Looks like there's a real pattern involving Venus/Jupiter and the Moon. What's the ruler of her 6th and what aspect does it make? NativelyJoan, in your sister's chart the ruler of the 6th, Saturn, is in a square to Venus (which is in Virgo, ruler of the 6th), but there are no Jupiter or Moon aspects.. Hmm. However the Moon is in square to Pluto, which can indicare eating disorders, especially compulsive eating. She has Mars in the 6th, so there is a real possibility to actually make a change, direct her energy towards her diet and exercise, but first she has to learn how to deal with her emotional problems (the Moon is afflicted).

I'm the exact opposite. I don't eat when my emotions aren't happy. I have Mars in Pisces in 6th house. IP: Logged |

Apparently not, because I have a loaded 6th house and the OP's sister has her Mars in there, too.Have you looked at your Moon/Venus/ruler of the 6th/Jupiter? IP: Logged |

Yes the Aries rising and the Sun-Mars conjunction definitely play a role in this.Is Virgo on the 6th house cusp? If so, what aspects does your Mercury make? IP: Logged |

Yeah it is. I have my 5th house cusp in cancer although most of 5th house is in Leo.Um mercury conjunct desc (7th house libra) and it conjuncts moon loosely (like 8ish degrees but still seems to have some effect despite the wide orb) I've never been on a diet, have a good metabolism and have found that when I feel crap I just don't feel like eating. I DO however have a habit of snacking when I'm bored (like while watching tv lol) IP: Logged |

Thanks for answering, mintgirl. It's a good thing you don't have any (major) issues with food I still can't establish any valuable pattern concerning "emotional eating" but it seems like the Moon and Venus are often afflicted, and some Virgo/6th house activity is going on. I guess it can play out differently for different people. IP: Logged |
