Actually I have Mercury in Pisces and I have difficulties with shyness my whole life. I refused to speak to anyone outside my immediate family until I was about 6 cuz I was so shy.IP: Logged |

I'm VERY shy... when I was a bit younger, painfully so. I've concluded it's because of Chiron & Saturn making harsh aspects to my ASC (as well as other planets..).
So, in my personal opinion, someone with Saturn or Chiron afflicting their ASC, and maybe Venus, will make them somewhat shy.
Oh! And also, possibly ruler of the 1st in the 12th.IP: Logged |

Good point, I have mercury sag 9H so maybe that's why communication hasn't been an issue.

Probably Saturn conj Asc or in first as this can knock someone's confidence. Also having chart ruler stuck in 12th can describe someone who needs lot of privacy. Cappi and scorpio Asc are the two least sociable signs. Hi Olivia I can relate, I used to be very shy.
Still am a bit, but I think it has more to do with self-consciousness than shyness in my case. I have Chiron and Moon square ASC. IP: Logged |

The 12H is in my Moon pisces  lol I can say I'm very cautious w/ my surroundings and I'm not the most trusting person when it comes to meeting new people. Nevertheless, it doesn't stop me from being social. IP: Logged |

Moonfish, your planets are almost all above the ASC/DSC axis, right? I guess that would make you more social than someone with a heavy Northern Hemisphere.IP: Logged |

hmm not sure. I think it is in the Northern hemisphere?
I guess what helps is my Sun-Mars-Pluto conjunction, trines Ascendant.

I mix them up all the time, I think Northern Hemisphere is actually below the ASC/DSC axis (it's reversed) but I may be wrong!But yes, that's what I was talking about. Your ASC ruler Neptune is conjunct Uranus and almost in the 11th, that would make you social, I think. Even though you have Saturn in the 11th. IP: Logged |

Yea that always confused me too :]Interesting I read that neptune septiles my sun as well, still not sure what that means. Maybe it's the house system. Though the Koch/Equal/Placidus systems don't change, except my sun would be in the 8H/9H. However the whole sign system would change everything putting my saturn in the 12H x.x .. haha no thanks XD IP: Logged |

Actually, I agree with you on my part, as well. I'd say I'm actually more self-conscious than shy, if I think about it.. the self-consciousness fools me into thinking I'm extremely shy though, I guess. quote:

Well.. huh.  Let me try to break it down some so my theory doesn't go completely out the window.
Maybe since the 12th house is Pisces natural house, it's not as bad on your part? Maybe it manifests itself in more of a spiritual way or something along those lines? A sign known to be more outgoing (Fire or Air) would have a harder time dealing with the depth of the 12th house, so would just withdraw instead. Does your Moon make any supportive aspects to Jupiter or the Sun.. or, maybe even Uranus? That might could draw you out more?

A lot of people seem to equate shyness to being reserved or quiet.According to this book (or at least one with a similar title I read years ago): http://www.amazon.com/Shyness-What-Do-About/dp/0201550180/ref=sr_1_4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1330632576&sr=1-4 Shyness is basically a fear of people. Breaking that down into astrological terms, the Moon (emotions, inner self), Saturn (fear), the 11th House, and detrimental placements should result in shyness. And one could be shy within one type of situation but bold in another. So if someone has Saturn aspects to their Moon, the shyness would prolly manifest in the houses where Moon & Saturn reside in or rule. IP: Logged |

You're probably right about that. I just met someone and our composite has Mercury in the 9th in Aries and we talk for 5 hours straight on the phone. And I usually hate talking on the phone! Here's my chart
