The Nature of Pluto
By amiann | Published: April 12, 2012

Pluto roils up what it touches. Think tidal wave. Pluto will take you up into the wave and deposit you where he will. One thing is sure. You will not be the same. The other thing that you will not be able to see the end while you are in the middle. Pluto has certain rules that one must learn through intimate association. Pluto is the lover you can never forget. It was such a strange and tumultuous ride. Then,he tossed you out and you had no idea what happened. WHO was that masked man? It was Pluto. The house in which Pluto resides will be up and down. You will ride the roller coaster until you learn Pluto’s lessons. Can one ever learn Pluto’s lessons and have peace in the house which holds Pluto? I don’t deal in platitudes. So, I don’t know the answer.

I agree about the roller coaster and wonder the same thing.

These are may articles on Pluto

Pluto
By amiann | Published: January 1, 2012

My dear friends asked me to write about Pluto in the houses. First, I would like to talk about Pluto, on it’s own. Pluto rules Scorpio. Scorpio is unique in being the most passionate sign of the Zodiac. Some planets do wonderfully in Scorpio. They fit, as a hand in a glove. Others squirm under the intensity as if held too tightly in a suit which is too small. Each planet rules a part of us. Pluto rules our passions. I was listening to Bolero by Ravel. That is Pluto. Music expresses Pluto best. If you listen to an opera with your heart and soul and put your mind in suspended animation, you will touch Pluto.

As one can imagine, some people are in touch with their Pluto energy. Some are not. If you have Saturn in Scorpio, your primal passions may seem like aliens. Everyone has a Saturn in some sign. As such, some energy will be harder for each of us. I did an article on Saturn in the signs. You can check out yours and see if this is the case. However, back to Pluto. The Mars sign which deals with Pluto the best is Mars in Scorpio. They seem to morph in to a feral animal with the grace and majesty of a tiger in the wild. Mars in Scorpio deals with primal passions as a Gemini deals with words, effortlessly, naturally. Many other signs stumble in these places that have no direction but the drumbeat of one’s own soul.

Pluto is a force to which one must deal, either willingly or forcibly. If one does not embrace one’s own Pluto, one will be brought to one’s knees when Pluto comes by in transit(in the present day skies). If one thought one could live in the cerebral realms, one will be disavowed of this notion when Pluto comes by. Pluto is akin to the Three Little Pigs. Each house fell at the hands of the wolf except the one built with bricks. One’s life will be torn down, in the same way, if one thinks Pluto can be consigned to the attic or the basement while one goes out in to the world in a tailored suit with carefully placed diamond cufflinks. Pluto will blow all houses down except those constructed of bricks, which is reality, a true understanding of what is inside of ourselves, and hence, what is in others.

Pluto in the First House
By amiann | Published: January 26, 2012 |

This native has a powerful presence. He screams of authority and leadership. If one aspires to be a policeman, a politician, a public speaker or a CEO, one would have a boost with Pluto in the 1st. This person is unforgettable, for good or bad. Pluto in the 1st house has an innate charisma. It is up to him how to use it, as his ego can be big. Having a big ego can be an asset or a liability. One can use it to for good, or for one’s selfish purposes. Pluto in the 1st is called upon to decide

Pluto in the Second House
By amiann | Published: January 26, 2012 |

If you want to understand Pluto, picture a tidal wave. It will have it’s way. You are told to move toward a wave if it seeks to drown you. The same applies to Pluto. One must move toward Pluto, with submission. Pluto is meant to teach us lessons. We don’t like our lessons, just as we don’t like our vegetables. We want dessert. However, too much dessert makes one stodgy and immobile. As such, when Pluto comes to you, submit. If Pluto is in the 2nd house, one will learn lessons in the material world. One may have grown up with material insecurity such as in housing and basic finances. One may not have been able to relax, as one did not know if one’s basic needs would be met. With Pluto in the 2nd house, these insecurities may last for a lifetime, even if one becomes wealthy. Pluto’s influence stays with one, forever, in one form or another

Pluto in the 3rd House
By amiann | Published: January 26, 2012 |

The 3rd house rules communication, short journeys, early education, casual chatting and siblings. When Pluto resides in the 3rd house, one will have ups and downs in 3rd house areas. Pluto in the 3rd house will make one bold in communication. One may be an orator or a writer, but one will speak one’s mind. Pluto does not like wishy-washy.Pluto may get himself in trouble, but it will not be for wavering. It may be for being too bold and too outspoken. The person with Pluto in the 3rd will tell it as he sees it, which is as refreshing, as it is rare.

Pluto in the 4th House
By amiann | Published: January 26, 2012 |

Pluto in the 4th seems to indicate a tumultuous childhood. The effects may stay with the person, as a sense of ongoing trauma, which lasts well beyond childhood. The 4th house is thought to be the mother, but it may be the father. One man had Pluto in the 4th and it was his father who left him with the effects of abuse which lasted, long after childhood. A fourth house Pluto may have had an unsettling early home life. He may, never, be able to count on salubrious surroundings, although there may be calm periods. One of the parents may be a gargoyle, of sorts. The astrologer would need to ask the native which one. However, it will become, abundantly, clear, with little probing, as one parent will have had a profound life changing effect.

Pluto in the 5th House
By amiann | Published: January 27, 2012 |

The 5th house rules creativity, fun, romance and hobbies. It seems that these native may have intense, tidal wave romances which do not last terribly long . These natives love fun, but fun has to be mixed with intensity, or they will make it so.Pluto in the 5th may make one passionate about hobbies, as well. The hobbies are, often, creative self expressions such as with photography, art, dance or music. Whatever the creative self expression may be, these natives will jump in with both feet. These natives will be larger than life whether you meet them at a party or immersed in the creative enterprises they love. Be prepared to ride the tidal wave with them, or be left on the shore.

Pluto in the 6th House
By amiann | Published: January 27, 2012 |

The 6th house rules both service and health. People with strong Virgo may be overly critical, on one hand, and very helpful on the other. They like things to be done right, but they will be the first to pitch in and help. If you want adherence to rules and details, find your favorite Virgo. Dot your i’s and cross your t’s, if you want to make Virgo happy. Pluto in the 6th may shake up one’s work, if one’s work is of a practical service nature such as hair dresser, car mechanic or any of the many service occupations. Pluto in the 6th may indicate health shake ups, too. One of my friends with this placement had to deal with a rare genetic disease in 2 children, which resulted in both he and his wife donating kidneys. The 6th house is not an easy house in which to have planets. The difficulties are not so much emotional as is the 8th, or spiritual, as is the 12th. They difficulties are more of a mundane real world nature, as the 6th house deals with the realities of life in the every day world

Pluto in the 7th House
By amiann | Published: January 27, 2012 |

The 7th house is the house of relationships. It is opposite the 1st house, which is the self. The chart is balanced, as one must balance the self with “the other”. The 7th house is the house of committed relationships, as in marriage. The 5th house is the house of fast romance, or what we call flings. The 7th house deals with the one and only, for life, devotion. It is the house of the husband/wife devoted relationship with all that entails such as devotion and unending loyalty. As such, Pluto messes things up, you could say. Astrologers tell you it is for your own good, and it is, but it still hurts with a terrible pain and angst, as Pluto breaks down our old structures. When Pluto is in the 7th house, one’s marriages or committed partnerships may be tumultuous. They may not break, but they will come close. Pluto threatens to take what we hold dear. It, only, gives it back, if we release it, paradoxically. Pluto in the 7th will teach you lessons of letting go and free falling, but it will be in the realm of relationships. Can one retain one’s committed relationships, if one has Pluto, here? Yes, of course, but the path will be strewn with debris, but it is one’s own ego. One only thinks it is an assault from the outside

Pluto in the 8th House
By amiann | Published: January 27, 2012 |

The 8th house is the house of taboos. If one cannot talk about it in polite society, the 8th house owns it. This includes passionate emotions and passionate sexuality. The 8th house is called the house of repression, as those who have planets here may mature late. The 8th house person has so many buried emotions and passions that it takes him longer to unearth them. Pluto likes depth. Picture a majestic tiger in the wild. He roams, as if he owns the place.Pluto owns the places on which he sets his feet, by the sheer power of his will.Pluto in the 8th may shake up the native to the degree that he is not allowed to be shallow. There are things to explore and he will do so. Pluto in the 8th is an intrepid explorer. If you want something less, go with another Pluto or eschew the sign of Scorpio and it’s co-ruler, Pluto, entirely. Pluto will not stand for inauthentic. You may moan and cry with passion, but don’t lie. Paint the canvas with all of your emotions, but don’t be fake, as this Pluto will cast you to the curb, designer purse and all.

Pluto in the 9th House
By amiann | Published: January 28, 2012 |

The question behind the 9th house is “What is the purpose of life? What is my purpose ?” People with a strong 9th house crave the answers to these questions as one craves chocolate or cheesecake. These individuals are not content with a superficial lifestyle. They will be the ones to take cocktail party talk to the next level. They are quintessential people of depth, as they see below the surfaces of things, but not in an 8th house way which is to plumb the depths of emotions and passions. They plumb the depths of existence, which is quite different. They may major in philosophy. If they don’t, they study it. They are not content to be the cheerleader or the rah rah girl, even if their looks beguile this. The 9th house Pluto native is a person of profundity, first and foremost.

Pluto shakes up the house in which it resides. A person with an 9th house Pluto may struggle with which philosophy to embrace. He may be in a commune one year and the head of a corporation, the next. He may study all religions, and probably has. If you want a one stop shop for talk on world religions, make it a 9th house Pluto, as he has probably been there and done that. This native will not stop until he finds rest, in his personal philosophy/religion/spirituality. It is his quest and the tidal waves of Pluto will not stop until he finds it.

Pluto in the 10th House
By amiann | Published: January 28, 2012 |

The 10th house is the house of career, society and one’s face to the greater society. It is, also, the house of the more dominant parent. The 4th house is, usually, the mother and the 10th, the father. However, the 10th is, actually, the more influential parent, whether for good or bad. Often, the person with Pluto in the 10th will have a tyrant for a parent. That native will be quick to tell you about it, as is has shaped his life. People may know him as someone who is, inextricably, tied to this parent. He may even be the brunt of jokes, as he is so obsessed. Remember, Pluto is the planet of obsession and give him a little grace. The 10th house is opposite the 4th house, which rules early childhood, and one’s childhood home. In contrast, the 10th house rules ones “home” in the greater society. The sign on the cusp will reveal how he shows his face to society. However, whatever the sign on the cusp, the Pluto in the 10th house native will make a splash. Pluto is loud, in his own way, even if it is a fist in a velvet glove. Pluto equals power. This native will make his presence known in whatever group he may join. He will, usually, rise to the top. One interesting fact about this Pluto is that if he is not the leader, he will not submit to a leader whom he cannot respect. He is rare in that he will stand up and be counted even if it goes against the crowd. He eschews sheep mentality. He can deal with dislike of him, but not weakness in his own moral character. He carries himself with dignity and expects the same from you, if you are to be his intimate. Even if he seems like a retiring creature when you meet him at a cocktail party, be aware that he is not. If you meet him in the boardroom, he will be a tiger. Know that and act accordingly. You know by now, not to toy with Pluto.

Pluto in the 11th House
By amiann | Published: January 28, 2012 |

The 11th house is Aquarius’ natural house. Aquarius may not like people, but he likes humanity, as the joke goes. Aquarius can be aloof, on a personal basis, but he may be the politician who changes the world. The 11th house rules hopes and dreams. Hopes and dreams are those things we nurture for our future. They are sparks of light which keep us alive, as all men need to hope for something beyond their meager existences. The 11th house rules groups. People with Pluto in the 11th house seem to have angst with groups. They may have huge ups and downs in group settings. They may be rejected by a group and have to leave in disgrace. They will learn hard lessons about what it means to both wield their primal power and to pull back from wielding it. They may learn this in the group setting. I suspect they will. Perhaps, hopes and dreams go up and down like tidal waves. The native learns valuable lessons by both dreams fufilled and dreams crushed. This Pluto native may learn his lessons on a global stage.

Pluto in the 12th House
By amiann | Published: January 28, 2012 |
Pluto and the 12th –Shussh. Pluto is the majestic primal tiger we have met in the other houses. He does not like to be turned inward, as the 12th house is wont to do. This majestic beast has his face to wall, as a child in time out. It is very hard for him to turn around, face forward, and walk with Pluto’s famous swagger. As such, we have an unhappy Pluto. When Pluto is unhappy, watch out. This Pluto takes secretive and dials it up notches. Can we say nuclear? Pluto rules nuclear power, you know. Pluto in the 12th has all of Pluto’s primal passion, but he is like a volcano and he is stuck in non eruption phase. Pluto’s energy must go somewhere, as all energy must. The 12th house Pluto may have very kinky sexual fantasies or practices. He may have a double life. He buckles at hiding who he is. That may be the hardest part of Pluto in the 12th. He wants to tell you who he is, but he is afraid. We are all afraid of rejection, even big bad Pluto. As such, this Pluto has a lot of secrets. My advice to him is to find a trusted friend or counselor. Unburden everything. This will be very hard for you, proud animal that you are, but you must. Even Pluto needs a little TLC, every now and then.

Wonderful post Ami, the only thing I noticed was a lot of info about passion but not a lot of emphasis on obsession. There was some, but I've come to notice, where Pluto is concerned the obsession meter goes off the scale. The passion aspect is easy to understand and deal with, but the obsession thing is extremely disquieting if you're aware of it.

Also a question, and I don't think this is really the right place for it but going to ask anyway.

My Pluto is conjunct my Mars and Venus in my 10th house (with no negative aspects to any)... but I've been a home maker for about seven years now. That's a lot of energy sitting in a house that primarily deals with career, without a career. If that little stellium isn't focusing on career, any thoughts on where it is focusing it's time?

Thank you for your kind words. I will have to think about the obsession with Pluto. Isn't this more when Pluto is in synastry rather than the natal? What do you think? I learn by exchanging info like this.

As far as your question, it is totally fine. I just can't recall your chart. Why don't you put it up and ask the question under it. Ask any others you have to and we can discuss them! xx

I re-read your post. Ok--let me ask you this. The 10th house is one's face to society. Do you have a prominent relationship with society with volunteer work, working in your children's school in the PTA, classroom mother etc?

The 10th House is one's face to society as well as career? If you want to put your chart up, go ahead still! x

As for the obsession thing, I'm really going off more personal experience than anything. When I found out Pluto ruled obsessions it explained a lot about my personality. I have a tendency to get SUPER obsessive about things in a way that people view as unusual (draw the line right before dangerously and physically stalking, that's SUPER)... For example, a super obsession with my favorite band or a super obsession with love interests. It could be synastry with what ever is involved though since it's not a constant state.

Is my chart. But no... I don't volunteer (except during the spring for a month to help my aunt) and I'm not active in my community.

Since learning about Astrology, that house/planet configuration has seriously perplexed me. It just doesn't seem to fit... maybe I'm avoiding some seriously untapped potential. Just wondered if I was missing something.

WOW--your Pluto is conjunct other planets. We will have to look at it as I don't think Pluto is necessarily about obsession as much as primal passions. I could be wrong and would love to hear other input.
