For me learning a language really is a big commitment. In my experience after middle school teachers don't try to make learning a language fun anymore...so I don't learn naturally in class. So it's really up to me to learn it on my own time. And I'm not the type who really likes to do that. sigh. I have Mercury in Taurus house 12 Moon Opposition Mercury Mercury Sextile Venus Mercury Trine Uranus Mercury Trine Neptune Mercury Opposition Pluto My 3rd house is empty of Leo with a bit of Cancer. Maybe that's where wanting it to be fun, and having a good learning environment comes from. And with Mercury in Taurus in the back of my head I wonder "how do I know if I will ever need to speak this language? What if I learn it all for nothing?" (ha not like I do anyway!) Anyways in school I have had German, Spanish, and Italian. Sadly I cannot hold a conversation in any of these languages. But my guy is fluent in Spanish, one day I was talking to him in a British accent. And right after that he said "I wish you could speak to me in Spanish" So I let him know I'd try. Been attempting to teach my self. Yeah I can pick up the accents good. I use to sing in different languages mostly Italian, but would not know what I was saying for the most part. IP: Logged |

Yup, if you don't know how to speak French in here it will be very difficult to find a job. As a daughter of an immigrant, I was forced to go to French school andlearn french from pre-k to high school. After high school you can either choose to go to english or french school. I chose english Got tired of going to french school all my life, but it still a nice language. But I don't find french romantic especially the french they speak here in quebec lol it's very vulgar compared to the french from france.

I've been listening to more spanish music so picking up the language becomes more natural.Mostly Pitbull and Shakira. I think it helps a little...it's kind of cool how when I learn the language with my book and then listen to one of their songs I can pick out random words in the song and go "I KNOW THAT WORD!" When before it was all just a blur. IP: Logged |

Errow Scorpy! I'm multilingual. In three languages including English - I have both oral and written comprehension. In another two languages - I have good comprehension/ok oral skills... but virtually no writing skills - since I never studied these languages at school.I have a wide Mercury/Jupiter conj in the 10th... I'm not sure why, but this conjunction seems to affect me a lot even though it's wide. IP: Logged |

I took french for 3 weeks until I left school. I found french to be a fairly easy language to learn. unfortunately I have forgotten most of it, all I can remember is "head, shoulders, knees, and toes" and the days of the week. I think I could learn languages easily if I was interested in that sort of thing. I have mars in gemini in the third. IP: Logged |

No, its not a stupid question at all. Maybe they teach languages a different way in other countries, but here in the u.s we are taught to read a language by sounding it out and speaking it first . It must be a cultural thing because I can't comprehend being able to write or read a language without being able to sound out and speak the words first. Atleast here in the u.s the ability to read, write, and speak are so intertwined its impossible to do one without the other two. IP: Logged |

The best way to study foreign languages are two:To fall in love with somebody, who speaks only (his or her) mother language; To live some years in that (foreign)country. ------------------ To fall down is easy, but to stand up is difficult. (my own citation) IP: Logged |

I understand Filipino and can speak it a little (that's my mom's language) I know basic spanish and mandarin (currently taking it in college). I have sun, merc, venus & mars in Sagittarius baby!!! Also Jupiter in the 9th house with Sagittarius MC
I'm Filipino, too! Filipino is my native language but I can speak and understand 3 different dialects. English is about the only other language I'm fluent in. I can understand a *bit* of Japanese, Korean and Spanish since quite a number of Filipino words are taken after Spanish. I think I can pick up other languages quite easily, but it's easier for me to learn it by living in a place where it is spoken or be taught by a native speaker than learn the entire language by myself. I have a Sag mercury in the 6th, Leo in the 3rd house cusp with Jupiter in it. IP: Logged |

Mercury in the 1st house triangle with Jupiter in the 9th house might perhaps explain that I 'm eager to learn foreign languages for doing my work in other countries. In high school I followed 1 year French lessons, so I speak French 'un petite peu' further I attended about 5 years of English lessons. 4 Years of German language lessons + practical experience over the years. When several German people say I'm speaking German very well that might be considered as 'ein Kompliment'. Working for an international company also made me more experienced with the English language. My native language, by the way, is Dutch. So I speak three different languages. However the best of speaking a foreign language is the feedback you get. The lesson I learned is that in the end it's all about that one understands each other ...

I'm more of a dabbler then a serious polyglot.Spanish (but it is not the more formal European Spanish) Mandarin, Latin, and some Romanian TBH, Romanian is probably my most enjoyable one to learn b/c it takes words from other languages and put their own twist on them -Italian "Arrivaderci!" Romanian-"La revedere!" It's just that little difference that makes it so interesting to me Chalk it up to Saggie Sun and Mercury/Uranus IP: Logged |

Thought I'd check out asteroids of countries that speak Spanish... Chile conjucts my Mars. Peru is opposing my Moon and Pluto That's all that is prominent in my chart. Now with my transits...nothing really right now. But I wonder if with it transiting my planets if I will be good at that point, if I keep it up. I had Spanish in 5th grade but that was pre school stuff. And in high school but I didn't learn any thing...we went over the answers before we turned in homework and I would cheat on the tests. Kind of wishing I would of learned in that class now. Right now...I'm learning new words...that part is pretty easy. But making sentences and holding a conversation is pretty scary. IP: Logged |
