You have Pluto conjunct Mars! Hm. . . could I paste some information and could you tell me if what you read applies to you? I like to test the information in my astrology books.

If it's cool with you, I'd like to ask you about your Venus/Uranus conjunction too. The fact that they semi-square one another is perfect for this thread. Wow, in a roundabout way, we came back to the topic!

Thanks Oro!

Aspects In Astrology - Sue Tompkins

MARS– PLUTO

Fighting to the death. The fight for survival. Compulsive winning. Assertion of power. Sexual power. Buried rage.

Let me not pray to be sheltered from dangers but to be fearless in facing them.
Let me not beg for the stilling of my pain but for the heart to conquer it.
Let me not look for allies in life’s battlefield but to my own strength.
Let me not crave in anxious fear to be saved but hope for the patience to win my freedom.
Grant me that I may not be a coward, feeling your mercy in my success alone; but let me find the grasp of your hand in my failure.
(Rabindranath Tagore, Fruit-Gathering)

This combination has the reputation for being singularly ruthless and fiercely competitive, but as with most Pluto combinations this may not always be obvious to the casual observer or even to the individual themselves. The ruthlessness is sometimes turned inwards upon the self. Nevertheless, this is the contact of the person who might say to themselves, unconsciously if not consciously: ‘I will win, I will fight, I will survive at all costs.’ Survival is usually a very big issue with this combination. Even in a small way, those with Mars– Pluto contacts can sometimes be found exhibiting a compulsive need to win. This is the person who must win the game of tennis, Scrabble or Monopoly or if they can’t will choose not to play at all. The feelings of there being a strong need to survive and fight are usually the same whatever the aspect, but behaviour indicative of these feelings is much more obvious with the opposition and square. Often people with these contacts seem anything but able to fight (overtly at any rate) as if Pluto has in some way ‘killed’ the Mars impulse. Like Mars– Saturn, with most aspects, and certainly with tight conjunctions or hard aspects, there is usually a childhood history of ‘might makes right’, where the youngster’s right to say ‘I want this’ or ‘No, I don’t want that’ was severely thwarted in some area. This usually makes the individual uncertain of their capacity to assert themselves in later life, with all the feelings of disempowerment that go with that. Individuals may then either over-assert themselves to be sure of getting their own way or not seem to bother at all, preferring instead to err on the side of diplomacy and compromise, believing that it is useless to fight anyway for they have no hope of winning. There is usually a pronounced manipulative quality then, so that the person gets what they want through more covert and subtle means.

Whilst this latter situation is by no means uncommon, the more usual manifestation with the hard aspects is the tendency to be overly forceful.

As always, Pluto tends to bury the planetary principles it touches. When coupled with Mars, the burial is of rage, energy and a kind of bestial sexuality. However, like a boil coming to a head, these qualities will surface when triggered by appropriate transits, and when they do so, it will often be with the most tremendous force.

Mars– Pluto anger is not so much anger as rage, the rage of the screaming infant who, for whatever reason, was too frightened to get angry when young. And the anger that was never discharged settles and becomes congealed. In childhood, there was usually a lot of free-floating rage around, commonly with sexual roots. In any event such feelings were often unconscious or largely unexpressed.

Mars and Pluto together are usually thought of as the significators of rape and one thinks of rape in the sexual sense, which would apply here as Mars– Pluto is a common contact in the charts of both the raped and the rapist, but the real meaning of the word is to ‘take by force’ and this can be viewed in a variety of contexts. Those with Mars– Pluto contacts know all about ‘taking by force’; that’s usually a quality of the environment in which they were raised. Succumbing to such behaviour themselves is not the usual manifestation but it can happen and it is what one might expect to happen to any child who has continually felt thwarted and powerless and angry. The idea of ‘taking by force’ and resisting pressure from outside can be positively or negatively used. As Arroyo says, ‘there is a compulsive drive for power with these aspects’. Such power can provide the strength out of which great things are made and out of which great personal transformation occurs but it can also be at the root of great cruelty and violence.

People with tight hard aspects, and not uncommonly the conjunction, will often themselves have had a history of physical violence, cruelty or sexual abuse. Rape is a common manifestation of this combination and I have known cases where the individual was not actually abused themselves but felt as if they were and absorbed a great deal of the underlying sexual rage in the household. I have also met people with these contacts who were conceived out of a rape situation.

Mars– Pluto people of both sexes usually have a deep distrust of men and what might be termed ‘masculine energy’ within themselves and often projected onto men. These contacts are common in women who pursue a lesbian life-style and in men who relate almost exclusively to women.

People with these contacts often get themselves into life-situations which mean they have to confront sexual taboos of one sort or another. Sexual relationships with their own sex or with people from a very different culture, and usually a different skin colour, might be examples of this. What constitutes a sexual taboo will vary from family to family, from society to society, and will change over the years. For example, an Indian friend of mine, a Hindu, encountered the most enormous taboo from the point of view of her family and culture when she divorced her husband and went to live with an Englishman.

For Mars– Pluto there is an aspect of sexuality which is experienced as dark, savage and bestial, and this can be viewed as deeply exciting or life-threatening. The individual often carries around with them savage images of the sexual act, seeing penetration more as an assault than anything else. Life becomes much easier for the Mars– Pluto person when it can admit to feeling murderous at times and can discover that they are not alone in having these feelings. The real problems for Mars– Pluto when falling in the charts of otherwise ‘soft’ and humane people, can be of owning their own violent feelings, and this is why the type can often find it difficult to allow themselves to express anger and also can be so ruthless with themselves. Not owning their rage can also result in the person attracting other people or life-situations which are violent or require superhuman courage or endurance. Through encountering such situations the Mars– Pluto person is forced to access their own ruthlessness, anger and strong survival instinct.

Because the Mars– Pluto person usually knows something about violation of one sort or another, the individual can have a deep understanding of some of the more hidden aspects of our society, and more especially of the sides of life that humanity’s civilised persona would rather not admit to having. Not surprisingly therefore, these contacts are often found in the charts of people who work with those that have abused or been abused.

This combination can be associated with ‘fighting to the death’ and sometimes with fighting off death. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross has a tight square between a Sun– Pluto conjunction and Mars. Through her work she has been one of the first people to examine the taboos surrounding death. She also teaches the philosophy of living until you die. The lines by Rabindranath Tagore which open this section are those chosen by her to open her book On Death and Dying and very much reflect a positively used Mars– Pluto interchange. Perhaps because there is such a strong survival instinct with this combination, people with it often have a tremendous resistance to disease and especially to everyday things like colds, but I have seen charts of Aids and cancer sufferers with tight Mars– Pluto contacts. In such cases the individuals, on learning that they had a life-threatening disease, have exerted themselves not only to survive but to reach the peak of physical fitness. Others have used the experience to penetrate the workings of their psyche and transform their lives. Even Mars– Pluto people whose lives are not threatened will often react to situations as if they were.

People with this combination are usually capable of extraordinary courage and powers of endurance. The courage will often be emotional as opposed to physical, although this combination is useful for those who physically push themselves to and beyond the limit: dancers, athletes, mountaineers and the like. In fixed signs especially, the Mars– Pluto person can put up with the kind of extreme situations that might be expected to crush any human spirit.

The way to use this combination is for the individual to engage legitimately in something that, for them, does require superhuman effort. And whilst the exertion needn’t be physical, engaging in such activity, as in work-outs or sport, is often a good way for the person to make conscious use of these contacts. Tennis and squash, for example, provide a legitimate vehicle for giving and receiving a good thrashing. Because anger is so good at fuelling action of all kinds and because Mars– Pluto people can be so frightened of getting angry, their physical energy can also get ‘dammed up’ and some sort of physical exertion is often required to shift it.

Dance is sometimes a therapeutic activity for the Mars– Pluto person, for as well as requiring a great physical expenditure of energy it can also be quite sexually cathartic. Drumming is also ideal. Mars– Pluto lends itself very well to jungle imagery and drumming and free-flowing dance is one way of accessing and using this energy. Keeping or working with animals is also a way of contacting the bestial within oneself. I think one can also associate Mars– Pluto with interest in magic and the occult and thus with all forms of hidden power and the idea of mind over matter.

The performance or experience of music can also provide a vehicle for a tremendous release of emotion. Perhaps a double dose of Mars-type energy, as might be associated with Mars and Pluto, calls for a double dose of Venus: music, love, acceptance and forgiveness. Expressions of love can do much to heal the scars of this combination.

I actually have Sun opposite Pluto at a really wide orb, 6°. It's amazing though, I just happened to give a read of it's description in this book and it's uncannily spot on! I didn't think it would apply since it's that wide but now I see why Astrologers tend to accept wider orbs for the lights. I kind of don't want to post it because I feel like it's too revealing. I'm hoping no one needs it hahaha.

Please tell me if this makes sense for your conjunction, Oro. If you're comfortable with that.

Quite spot on in some things.

I'm mostly of the diplomatic and covert kind. Though you could also blame Scorpio since the conjunction happens there, lol.

I do have a competitive and agressive streak but I'll usually drain it with video games or arguing on the net(mostly politics, don't fret, lol). Also why is a bad idea to say stuff like "I bet you don't dare to do/say whatever", which used to be worse when I was a kid, since I wouldn't have any consideration for anyone just to beat them and prove them wrong.

I can also relate to the point about being easier to relate to females rather than males. I have more female friends than males.

No sexual abuse in my life in any shape or form, but I did try a few taboo things when I was younger, plus done plenty of medling in the occult.

Also, I rarely get sick but I have had to dealt with cancer fairly recently, too.

So yeah, I think it's pretty accurate, other than the whole Sexual abuse/rape stuff, at least in my case.

@Oro:

Wow, thanks for telling me your experience with that conjunction!

I'm really curious about your dabbling into the occult. Would you be willing to e-mail me about it? It's totally cool to refuse.

I'm sorry that you've had to deal with cancer, I hope you're alright. I couldn't imagine going through that kind of thing.

@Kero:

Wow, the inconjunct. Sometimes I wonder how these affect us. The book I have been quoting says that the energies do not meet up at all or they meet up but we just can't feel them to understand them.

I'm not sure about this. What do you think about your inconjunct? Have you ever tried to figure them out for yourself or anyone else?

I have a Moon inconjunct Venus exact. I've been trying to understand it but so far, no luck.

P.S. I miss SomethingExcellent. I wonder what he's up to.

I don't know how I feel about them because there is hardly any info on them....

I was just thinking of this myself lately. Like about the semi-sextile in my chart for example [Scorp Pluto to Libra Sun]

Yes, there's a definite lack of info out there. I want to focus on these aspects if I ever get to writing my astrology book! I like little details about things. I don't like neglecting them.

Well, I guess it was bound to happen, I kind of jinxed myself.

Hello there, Sweet-Scorpion. Would you like me to post the Sun-Pluto info from my book to see if it explains that semi-sextile you have?

In the book, it says that semi-sextiles aren't felt very much unless involved with another formation and I wonder if this is true or not.

Cause I was saving my virginity for someone I deeply loved but that never happened... because of reasons lmfao.

Now I'm just use to it, I guess. I do believe there should be love. I'm just not quick to fall in 'love'.
Or my idea of love.

OMG nude twister was so fun!
I was dating someone and for someone reason I agreed to do an orgy because I thought it was a joke... Yeah, you can see how I got out of it..

Thanks, Ms Prism.

let`s see

"Sensitivity to discord."
Yes, definitely.

"Sexual feelers."
What does that mean?

"Rather like Sun– Mars, those with hard aspects between the Moon and Mars have a very strong need to ‘do’, to act, to roll up their sleeves and get on with the project in hand."
No, not really.
Well my mind is ever active, but I don´t feel push to materialize it all in form of projects; actually I kinda stay away from too much stuff (b ut for some reason end up being pushed into projects anyway; though it is still manageable).

" Typically, there are lots of comings and goings and snatched meals."
No, if I am home, I am home.

"For example, safety, home, familiarity versus independence and sexual excitement. "
Yes, that is very much true. And I kind of tend to sacrifice sexuality in favour for home and family.

"Frequently though, the individual will have come from such an atmosphere and may take pains not to repeat it."
No, my parents weren`t arguing like this; they had heated discussions, but all on a mental plane.

" All Moon– Mars contacts give rise to people who are very sensitive to any kind of conflict as well as any kind of threat."
Yes, I have a fear of conflict; though my brother once mentioned that I am accepting conflicts as a challenge and will not shy away from talking it out. He certainly sees a more assertive side in me, than I do myself. lol

" Typically the Moon– Mars child would have picked up on all the unexpressed rage and, like a sponge, absorbed it."
Yes, that is true. Very sensitive to every kind of conflict between my parents, and as a kid I viewed it as threatening and did my best to harmonize them.
Though their conflicts were never as bad, seen from an adults point of view. lol

" The Moon– Mars type may jump in and fight your battles, well before you even realised you were at war."
No, not my style.

" Like Sun– Mars, Moon– Mars may be courageous, enterprising and fearless. "
No, not really. I am pretty cautious.

Though there have been instances, when I felt my brother was threatened, as a youth was pointing a knife onto him, and I simply wrapped my hand around the blade, and the youth was so shocked he let go of it immediately, and after me returning the knife to him, prettym uch ran away. But that wasn`t a conscious reaction.

I am very very cautious for a long time, until something snaps, and the subconscious takes over, then I may act uncharacteristically risky.

my mum is a strong, protective woman, but while not explosive, she has an implosive streak, true to her SCorpio nature, you don`t always know if the light is going green or red. lol

Because of their perfectionist quirk, these subjects really don’t take criticism well, are extremely sensitive and get far too upset too easily, which draws them into very un-peaceful fights.

I do have perfectionist tendencies but I've had people tell me that I take criticism about myself quite objectively.

I am sensitive to it though and if it's something I am newly made aware of and not something I want to be, I immediately begin working on changing it.

Criticism to any creative work I undertake is usually approached logically unless someone decides to try to look at my work before I want it to be made public. Then the **** hits the fan and I will get into a verbal fight with the person.

quote:
So this combination can be very paradoxical, for example the “Champagne Socialist” with very refined and expensive tastes, travelling in a chauffeur driven Rolls Royce while declaring they want a fair society where we are all equal.

This is funny. When I was young, I wanted a Rolls Royce. Mainly because they seemed like very comfortable and "I'm just going for a drive Jeffrey, I shall return soon." I don't want one anymore though. Expensive things seem like a waste of time. I have just started learning about wine and I definitely wouldn't mind meeting someone that could teach me all about it. I'm not sure if that qualifies as so refined though.

quote:
The quincunx causes creative dissonance, it’s especially effective I think here with Venus’s slant towards harmony and the Moons amazing, intuitive imagination. This aspect can feel it’s way through the most warped and spiky footpaths and come out in one piece. This aspect can veer towards the kinky in relationships due to the mother figure being the chief disciplinary parent in childhood. Women therefore can be held in awe, worshiped and hated at the same time.

This is interesting. My mother was the dominant person in the house and I do believe it caused me to be confused with females. I don't understand what they want, what I should say, how I should act. I'm highly confused about female energy. I do look at them and think "wow, they're so chatty and glorious!" but I actually have no idea how to meld with them. I've had a lot of girl-friends but I honestly just faked my way through the friendship, often confused at what the hell was happening.

To me, women are a mystery. *nods emphatically*

I'm not sure if I've walked through warped and spiky paths unscathed but I'm still in one piece. You know that I get myself into those situations though!

---------------------------

I think it's so sweet that you were saving yourself. I wonder if you'll stay that way after you've had those first experiences. It's always interesting to see the paths people take after big transformations happen.

@Ceri:

You're welcome!

Hm. . . really interesting! Especially the statement about acting uncharacteristically risky when pushed far enough and it's not really a conscious action.

Mars is plain old action but the Moon does represent the subconscious on some level right? Like representing what we can't remember of our own birth, the history of our family, etc.

Thank you so much for responding so fully!

Can anyone see something in the links I posted? The ones about the sesquiquadrate and some interpretations for the quintile and quincunx.

I have Venus and Juno quintile Chiron and Venus semisquare Pluto. Can anyone tell me more about it?

That description of Mars-Pluto was dead-on. Wow, I'm having chills too. And I "only" have the sextile! Actually, I think this adds more to why I tend to run into a lot of people who were a victim of abuse or some sort (even more when I was younger). Sadly, so have I.

Yes, also my Mars is in the 12th house (even though conjunct ASC - and Neptune and NN), and it rules the 4th house. It can stay invisible for quite some time, but if it surfaces, you will notice. lol

Hm, okay, let's try this... (I am not hungover in the slightest! Believe me! )

Moon quintile Mars.
You are probably very imaginative and creative, very talented in something. You have this drive to explore and find higher tiers, and you can do this intuitively...I think when you find a field you enjoy, you tend to just immerse yourself in it totally. I think your interests are also quite theoretical and intangible, maybe even specialised too - ones that not many other people know much about.

It's short, but that's all I've got right now. Quintiles are one of the more simpler aspects I find that need less explaining. Also you and I have Moon/Mars double whammy. My Mars is at 18 Leo and my Moon is 4 Aquarius haHA!

Most of my experience has to do with Santeria/Ifa, not sure if that's what you are interested in.

If anyone hasn't seen this already, this website gives some interpretations for the quincunx/inconjunct and quintile between planets as well. Scroll to the bottom.

Thank you so much Meissieri!!

I'm still going through these aspect interpretations, there's a lot of info from those two links!

I'll have to take a dip in the pool of my past to try to see what fits and what doesn't. I really love that those two websites together contain almost all of the minor aspects one would ask about. They're such a great contribution so I have them bookmarked in my astrology folder now!

I'll tell you what I come up with as I make connections with my minor aspects and actual experience.

Again, thank you so much!

Then try here.
There may be an easier way to read and understand complicated Synastry pie chart aspects. Pie chart aspects can also be produced onto a basic Synastry Aspect Chart. Review the sample chart at your leisure. It may help you gain even more insight than you currently have.

I saw this just now. Thank you for the interpretation. And yes it makes much sense to me.

If something fascinates me (like astrology for instance, or even my undying love of muscials ), I tend to immerse myself completely.
I used to write stories (and before that poems), and I totally disappeared into them. I don`t know how to explain it, for the time I was writing, I was existing within these stories, with the real world just functioning as stage or scenery. It sounds odd probably.
I don´t know about talented though, that is not for me to decide.

Interesting about our DW. And then Moon-Mars. How fitting, considering my natal quintile.
