I do feel there's a lot of 'checks and balances' going on. Like he'll think he's done this, so now it's my turn to bend here. There's certainly a lot of compromising going on, on a very basic level. That seems entirely karmic, too.

Ooo don't get me wrong, it's tortured my whole entire being for years...
At this point, I'm working on getting over it...
I just don't really want to be like this anymore...
I'm taking back my control!!!
Now I have him sitting there wondering....

Another thought here, actually, regarding the Venus/Neptune square.

In a composite, it point to illusions, and things not being as you'd expect them, and all that jazz. I was rather stunned to find it in the composite with my costar.

But then I started thinking about it.

We really got to know each other via a creative project, and mutual appreciation for aesthetics. I do also tend to find this in the composites of those who're colouring outside of the lines in some way, shall we say? More blatantly stated - whose relationship is illegitimate.

Does that work for relationships which are of an 'alternative' nature, I suppose? Polyamourous, nonmonogamous and the like? If you're in an open marriage, but involved with other partners - would your composites not have a similar 'marker' like Venus square Neptune? I wonder.

The composite I have with my husband has a strong Venus-Uranus square, too, which makes total sense.

14* Scorpio, 3H, conjunct Destinn, Eros, Lilith, loosely conjunct Uranus-Moon, parallel Uranus, Karma, Destinn, Lilith; Aries dwad. Loose sextile to Venus. Square Nodes. Opposite Chiron. Semisextile Valentine.

More than you ever wanted to know. ;p

I'm usually a steel-trap. It's the Uranus that likes to be contrary.

A Scorpio Mercury of course! Mercury shines in this sign for some reason.

Okay, so natally. I'll give you a real life personal example of both Venus 12th and Venus square Neptune.
Twice in the last 3 years I had fallen for a woman who is married. One became a full on affair. That one approached me actually but still....
Both cases they were also foreign and kid(s). The latter of the two wasn't really foreign but of another heritage and their families stuck to those traditions of honor and closeness.
One of them it's debatable how she actually felt, but I definitely fell for her. It stayed with me for a long long time.
So that's Venus 12th, obviously.
In a "normal" person, I use that loosely, they would just think, "I really like them but it can't be." They'd keep their mouth shut, keep some distance and not try to charm their way in. I do exactly that. I charm my way in and it does work.
Venus square Neptune says, "Oh don't worry about any problems. It'll work out." Totally ignoring the fact that it would get very ugly if things progressed. Their culture dictated that if you step out on your spouse your own family disowns you. You and your new spouse are on your own. No longer welcome to family functions. Not to mention kids involved and all that. Totally ugly, and not worth it. I'm against that sort of thing honestly. But Venus square Neptune doesn't take into account ANYTHING but it's dreams - NOTHING else.
One is just stupid with money. I mean really out of control. She'll spend her whole paycheck on clothes, jewelry, etc. It's her husband who keeps her in check and he has to hide his money. It's bad. But again, Venus square Neptune doesn't see it, or ignores it.

The end result is that the charm fest carries on. Weaseling my way in and giving a sense of excitement, greener grass on the other side (my side), hope... all of that. In the end, EVERYONE gets hurt! Trust in those families is broken... it's bad.
Contrary to typical thoughts about venus 12th, I've never been the CHEATER. Never have, ever.

lol You don't have to worry about examples since I have have Venus (in the 12th conjunct my ascendant) square Neptune. But, thanks for sharing your example anyways.
