According to my family doctor, this is the most depressing time of the year as suicide rates are at their highest. He even mentioned a start date of around January 21 (Sun enters Aquarius on January 20) and to not make big changes in the next while.

I have been depressed since July (I'm pretty sure it's Pluto transiting my natal Saturn) and though I had a relatively good 3 weeks, I have been down since Wednesday (January 22).

Do you think the Sun in Aquarius/detriment is responsible for this extra depressing time? Is anyone else having a rough week?

I'd appreciate your thoughts!

Yes, I have always found February the most depressing time of the year. I used to even tell myself to calm down, it is just February when people would snap at me during that particular month.

Hey CupofDavid! Keep your chin up- I've been having a really rough week too. Plus, neptune has been transiting my Pisces MC for some time now. Ugh. Pretty depressing, been crying a lot...yep, probably a transit. Good to know I'm not the only one feeling it. "This To Shall Pass" 😇

I'd look at aspects to Sun, Mercury , Moon, Venus and Mars.

Do these planets aspect Saturn by opposition, square or conjunction?

You mentioned that you have a Sun in Aquarius. Are there any other fixed placements that are also acting with Saturn?

Transiting Saturn aspects my Venus by conjunction right now and the fact that I also have it natally, makes me feel like the "juice" of life is all being sucked out.

You can't escape your skin and it does feel like this feeling is unending. What I would best advise you is to speak to someone.

The idea is not to have you feeling like the energizer buddy , but really to "clean out" all the psychology that goes with it.

Tell me about it, I have Saturn square Chiron, Pluto square Jupiter in 12th transit, I feel very up in the clouds in a bad way. It feels really lonely, even if I'm around people.

Thanks tgem! I'm sorry to hear you're going through a rough time. Let's hope greener pastures aren't too far away.

None of the luminaries or planets that you mentioned make hard aspects to Saturn; however, aside from my Saturn-Uranus-Neptune Capricorn stellium, Saturn only aspects fixed signs. (My chart is in my signature, if you'd like to glance at it.)

You're right on the money with the unending feeling. I used to have regular appointments with doctors, but I only had access to those resources for 3 months, so those weekly visits ended in December. I can always admit myself to the hospital if things get a lot worse.

Chiron perplexes me. I don't think I'll ever understand its effect.

But I hear ya on the lonely part -- hang in there.

A depression just hit me 2 days ago also! People seem to be edgy and impatient....it's hard to stay happy and positive!
I thought it was a transit. I've got some tough ones right now! Didn't realize this time of year was bad for everyone, I figured places it was warm would be happier than us stuck in the cold where I'm at! I'm so tired of it and ready for some sun!

Pluto right now is cap@12.09 sq my Pluto libra@11.05
Neptune pisces@4.01 sq my Sun saggy@4.28
Chiron pisces@11.12 sq my Neptune saggy@11.07
Saturn scorpio@22.18 sq my NN scorpio@21.44
NN scorpio@2.41 sq my Kaali scorpio@2.41

I used the whole house system and it seems to me that you have a lot of planetary emphasis on the 2nd house(Mercury, Venus, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune).

With so much emphasis on the 2nd house, this seems to suggest to me that there may be some self-esteem, self-worth, self- love issues.

Especially since I see that Neptune(the slowest moving planet) and Saturn are also there. Saturn can build a strong sense of self-worth whilst Neptune comes and tears it down.

Neptune in 2nd can make one not be able to see their values(2nd) clearly. In other words, one may always question what value do the things that they have hold?

Neptune in 2nd can also suggest that values are tied into spirituality, idealism, the helping of others, self-sacrifice and devotion etc.

I wonder if you have struggled with depression your whole life? Or is this a recent occurrence?

Pluto transiting the 2nd house conjunct Neptune is adding even more focus on Neptune's questioning of "What is the value of it all? Is it really worth it?" etc.

Also, with 12th house Moon,Pluto and transiting Saturn also making an appearance there, feeling even more "left out" from the outside world is likely.

Moon in 12th suggests a lot of alone time is preferred whilst Pluto also there often indicates that this "alone" time is compulsive.

Now with transiting Saturn going after your Moon, feeling "boxed in" or "hemmed in" is likely.

Saturn transiting the 12th will want you to sort out these episodes of periodic isolation in a tangible way. Try to understand why you want so much alone time and why you insist on privacy?

Perhaps all this will result in a book? A spiritual path? A new approach to relaxing?
Taking up painting? A disciplined approach to meditation etc. Whatever it is, Saturn wants tangible results and a new, realistic understanding of what is going on behind the minds eye.

It makes sense that the stress of all this started last year, as I suspect that transiting Saturn was aspecting your Pluto then; emphasizing this need to isolate yourself from societal involvement that much more.

Also note that transiting Jupiter is in the 8th house of detective work right now. This suggests that the answers that you are looking for for the big questions(Jupiter), may not be readily apparent(8th).

Right now, more than ever, it may be difficult to see the meaning of all this. Not if you explore the terrains of the library or published works(Jupiter in 8th). In other words, there is no book that is going to show you what to do and how to get over it etc.

Retrograde Jupiter(in 8th) trine Pluto in 12th suggests that the answers may lie with instincts, disciplined meditation or listening to ones' inner voice.

Saturn most certainly doesn't mean that you are able to crack it overnight. The progress may be slow. Start by waking early each day and taking a long walk before anyone else is awake?

Maybe you can also try waking up late at night when everyone's asleep and see if you can apply yourself to writing, painting or some creative outlet?

I just also realized that transiting Neptune sits on your 4th house(whole house system).

Neptune on the angle of the 4th house emphasizes much of what I have said; a reclusive nature, wanting to spend even more time alone at home; preferring your own company etc.

I wonder if you are drinking more than ever? Or you are sleeping more than ever?

Neptune in 4th also suggests that the imagination is most alive in your home environment and the outlet could be, as I suggested, some sort of spiritual outlet, creative outlet(like painting or music) or you could develop a new addiction(maybe you will spend more time at home now watching show re-runs or movies back to back)?
You could also be increasingly concerned with the sickly, homeless or disenfranchised groups of people right now?

Thank you, AscTaurus, for taking the time to write all of that. I read it some time ago, but couldn't get myself to respond.

I definitely struggle with self-worth, -love and -esteem. (That may even be an understatement.) They have been hitting me especially hard in the past couple of weeks.

I learned through various doctors that, unbeknownst to me, I've been depressed for a long time; however, it peaked -- or bottomed, rather -- last year.

My God, I want answers so badly. That want is what brought me to this forum to look deeper into astrology. More than anything, I just want to know where my life, especially my career, is headed.

Yes, I've been sleeping more than ever since the summer. I'm a regular night owl, but up until a couple of months ago, I went to sleep at noon and woke up late in the evening.

The time-to-myself bit is spot-on. I'm most comfortable and creative when I'm alone.

I've always been concerned for the disenfranchised, but it's possible that I've become more concerned for them in the past few months because of what I've been going through.

I feel for you, Cup.

Your 2nd house ruler is Saturn, right?
Saturn's in Cap conjunct Neptune and Uranus. That could make your self-esteem quite fluctuating and changeable.
The Scorpio Moon is definitely a biggie.

Hm you have NN in the 2nd house so it makes me think that learning to value yourself and discover your skills (2H) is a life lesson for you. Transiting Neptune is right on your NN right now. That can shake things up a lot. If you feel discouraged, it's quite normal... But you could also feel very inspired and hopeful at this time. Make sure you're being realistic though.

For some reason I get the feeling that you could be good at working with children or young people, in the medical or psychological field. Like helping them with their troubles or something. Dunno why exactly.

2 years later and I still think that transiting Sun in Aquarius/detriment is responsible for poorer moods, especially in those who are prone to depression.

Because February is that one last barrier before Spring! LOL.

It's like, you're almost at the finish line, but you're not. It's those last few miles before the end of a marathon. Sorry, I'm just laughing writing this. LMAO!

I wholeheartedly agree with this topic.

February (Aquarius season more specifically) is the most depressing time of the year for me also. It makes me want to sleep all day. 😴

February is considered the least favorite month for many according to polls. I think it's mainly because the excitement of Christmas is already far but springtime is not even close yet. It is those boring, grey, cold winter days with lots of snow and slush.

The Sun is indeed in detriment in Aquarius, so Aquarius season definitely lacks that sunny vitality, confidence, optimism and joy that Leo season brings. I got my Moon, Jupiter and Ascendant in Leo: I feel very energetic in Leo season - and super deflated in Aquarius season. 😞

OMG!! I was just thinking the exact same thing!!! I was going to reply something else though.

We are nature. We should roll with nature more. It's hard because most of us have to be productive as well. Busy life goes on. And we have all learned it that way. But in winter time things slow down, we should rest more and retreat. And yes, winter sometimes forces that of us but many of us want to do that on our own time, our own schedule. We want to control things. Of course, it is SO understandable!! We also have this huge judgement on depression and sad feelings. But it's totally valuable. It's just as much part of us. But it's never who we really are. If we can let it be and try not to control it we can observe. What is going on inside? Look around. Can you let things go that do not serve you anymore? In here you are in opposition of summer where all is in full bloom, all active, burning, heat, passion. That's the beauty of seasons. If we'd roll more with it we are in the flow.

I hug you and I hug your sadness.

Hugs to everyone.

@diamondbaby: Ah, yes -- you put it well in your last paragraph.

I always hope for Aquarius season to be a jollier time because my Sun is in Aquarius, but I usually experience the opposite.

Interesting note, @Sylven.

I'm curious to hear from someone who lives in the southern hemisphere -- as it is summer down there -- and whether or not Aquarius season is experienced similarly.

My Mercury is square Pluto transiting and my Pluto is in the 6th Natally and all I have been thinking about obsessively is losing weight, how to lose weight, when to lose weight, faster ways, healthier options, extra exercise routines...diet pills... Diet teas...whatever!
I wish it would just stop.

Thanks I really needed that! I see a lot of the repeating sequences but 888 is a rare one for me. I looked up some more too and I can see how fitting some of it is... well here's hoping

I live in the Southern Hemisphere
This time of year here, well especially January, people are very optimistic. A natural reaction to the sunshine and warmth. that down time spoken about here is more of a June/July thing where I am. I honestly believe the sun really does light up your spirit. All that beautiful vitamin D.
Having said that, there are HUGE transformations and shifts happening to people on a global scale now. I'm wondering what could explain this astrologically?! So the energy does feel heavy.
