I agree with this- my mom has a cancer stellium and she really, really gets bummed if you don't like her food!

I will admit that I was like this in the past, when I was a teenager. It was highly subconscious, and if you'd asked me at the time, I would have told you that I didn't care about my appearance, while simultaneously checking myself out in whatever reflection I could get ahold of. It was a desire to be perfect.

Now, I super don't care about being perfect, so I don't care about how I technically look at any given moment. I could have pimples or eye bags and be completely okay with my appearance.
However, I have developed a preoccupation with confirming that I'm, over all "sexy." I have this compulsive desire to consume my object of affection with sheer sex appeal, and if they don't respond in the way I anticipate, I won't view myself as sexy, and I ultimately view myself as worthless.

Somehow I've managed to become aware of it and detached enough to not let it rule my life. But inevitably, I cannot possibly be as sexy as I want to be, so I default to feeling worthless unless I make the effort to love myself for who I am, and not sex appeal. It's so subjective, anyway.

I, OTOH, quickly learned that I could only depend on myself and learned to value skills that allowed me to take care of myself, as well as having fun (perhaps packed 5H), and all the scifi and such (as opposed to fashion magazines) I read had very flexible gender norms (guys could be nurturing and supportive, women could be aggressive and dominant, just as the reverse was true and many other combinations--an example of the diversity can be found on scifi series like Babylon 5) and women were valued by what they could do and did (it didn't discount look, but the emphasis on how someone looked was rarely there as it was rarely important).

And now me and my mom are different. She talks about all the hardships and abuse she endured as a model with pride, like someone who climbed a mountain, while I'm horrified she'd do that to herself, and my Leo ASC is offended at the idea of people treating me the way she was treated by her agency. I also value my skills more than my looks, but looks are very important to her (which is too bad as she ages). She, OTOH, views my ability to take care of myself without needing a man to do it similar to how many see the very alert blind person with superior senses...impressive in its own way, but no one envies that person. Our Leo ASC learned to value different things about ourselves, and it's especially interesting that she and I take pride in ourselves and our respective accomplishments, and are glad we're not like each other.
