The Astrologer’s Degrees, a Study of the Evidence.
By Jem Neal

-- Discussing common degrees/placements in charts of astrologers.

Excerpts:

quote:
Firstly I would look to the position of Uranus and to a lesser extent Saturn. Uranus configured to the angles seems to be prevalent, as does a strong Saturn. Uranus gives flashes of insight as well as mathematically themed abilities while Saturn provides rigour and an ability to structure. Traditional astrologers point to the importance of Mercury in the consideration of astrological ability. Some people say that the asteroid Urania -muse of astrology and astronomy both – ought to be meaningfully placed. Noel Tyl posits the view in his books that 18 degrees of mutable signs is significant in the study of astrology. Similarly, James Braha asserts that it is common for the greatest Hindu astrologers to have been born with a powerfully disposed Moon (memory) and 2nd house (knowledge).

quote:
So to this list I would add a requirement of sensitivity, which might be supported by the configuration of Neptune with either of the luminaries, a strong Piscean influence, 12th house significators, Virgo too, through the polarity of Pisces and the service-oriented axis and any strongly Lunar characteristics.

quote:
So, these are the other factors, now what of the degrees themselves? I do not wish to discuss the etymology of the degrees as individual powers to promulgate fate and character, at this stage, let us just accept that for whatever reason, they have relevance. The sources are obscure, the interpretations many, but here are the astrologer’s degrees according to deVore:

From 22° – 28° Aquarius.
From 25° – 29° Leo.

With particular emphasis being given to the 27° Leo – Aquarius axis.

Furthermore, 11° Virgo is considered an astrologer’s degree, no doubt with a very tight orb, thus 10° – 12° of Virgo and there may be a polarity point at 11° Pisces, although this is by no means agreed upon uniformly in the various sources.

quote:
I know a fair few astrologers around the world, and I can comfortably say that those who appear to have the greatest blend of skill in applying the understanding of the science to the practical and compassionate art of counselling all appear to have some strong configurations around the aforementioned degrees, and usually several other indicators to boot.

How does your chart match up with these findings?

^^ Thanks for chiming in.

---

Just looked up Annie Heese's chart (she runs cafeastrology.com.)

She has sun conjunct Uranus and Pluto in Virgo, sextile Neptune and opposing her 12H Pisces moon. (Moon trine Neptune.)

Jupiter in Venus in late Leo, as mentioned in article. Venus at 27 Leo.

Nothing in the other precise degrees mentioned.

Mercury in 8th, home, final depositor, intercepted, and sun sign ruler

Saturn sR in addition to above is in grand water trine to Venus Cancer Rx and Asc 0° Scorpio (5° orb)

And for the 18° mutable...

Oh, moon in Leo 10th, focus of a fixed T from Neptune Rx Scorpio and Jupiter Taurus (2° overall orb). Sorry, but the 2nd house is empty other that Lilith and POF, but 8th house Sun and Merc have to help, right?

^^ Amazing!

Your moon's not in that 22-27 degree range is it?

Nice to meet someone else with a Mercury-Uranus-Saturn t-square. Who seems sane.

Moon is at 13°. Mars at 27° Taurus so it would be square that axis if there were anything there to aspect against.

And thank you but seems sane isn't the same as is sane

Moon in 2nd house Pisces, NN in Pisces, Sun in 2nd

Urania in Aqua 1st house conj Venus, other aspects are minor.

Does Neptune count at 11 degrees? Its in Cap though lol. Highly aspected in chart.

Uranus is sextile Moon, NN, conj ASC

Part of Fortune Sagittarius, 18 degrees, 12th house

Saturn is chart ruler and conj ASC, sextile Moon and trine Mars

Haven't looked at midpoints, will do it later. So I'm no astrologer, but I do love this stuff.

Thanks Bella

I remembered your 2H Pisces moon and hoped you would come document it here.

18 Sag POF in 12H Didn't I say you should be a fortune teller? More proof there.

Neptune 11 Cap is probably significant as it trines the other astrologers' 11 Virgo. (Which, by the way, I have not seen in any astrologers' charts I've puled up online. )

Urania conjunct Venus is sweet. I wonder if the planets Urania aspects give a hint about circumstances surrounding our interest in astrology. Because I have 12H Uranus-Saturn exact and have always been kind of secretive and embarrassed about it. I hide my astrology books and often kick myself for how I spoke of it to other people.

Hope no one quotes that.

Aw, darn it! When I saw that you liked feedback and validation for your theories I thought that maybe I missed something in your post.

However, it's not really possible to claim someone else's theory as you claim your shirt, is it If you say "your theory" people might get excited But if you say "your shirt" the assumption is more that you own it or that it belongs to you. Thanks for clarifying

A quick search of the archives here shows this topic mentioned previously,
Astrologer Degree

I've heard this theory before, but there's very minimal evidence when you study the charts of astrologers for the 18° mutable, when looking at major placements including outers, and angles.. for 10°-12° Virgo it's a bit more, but not much. Saying "a bit more" might actually be too generous in scope. Liz Greene as a noted example has her Sun in this range. Again, just looking at the actual specified degrees. Not 17°39" Gemini, nor 13°10" Pisces, for example.

The Leo 25°-29° and Aquarius 22°-28° ranges do seem to stand out, however.
Not overwhelmingly so as in "all over the place," but definitely noticeable when compared to the mutable degrees mentioned, combined.

27° is theorized to be the stronger of both..but that specific degree isn't very noticeable when isolating Leo and Aquarius chart factors.

Uranus conj asc, Saturn conjunct mc. Moon in 2nd conjunct Neptune in sag at 17'58.

I really thought I was never going to get astrology - connecting it, not the signs or planets - and still have a hard time joining things together which puzzles me as in any other discipline joining things is easy for me. But I'm starting to feel an improvement so maybe one day. I have to feel everything out through people i know though which maybe everyone does. Thus it's quickly cumulative but still a long way to go.
