Cancer - can be very private or get defensive and hide in their shell (4th house too)

Virgo - can be very private and mysterious all around; think Greta Garbo

Libra - can be strategic and have a plan in their mind you're unaware of or get quite political and slippery in what they say

Scorpio - the sign of mystery, Scorpio Pluto 8th house brings the highest degree of mystery in a chart

Capricorn - lone rangers

They are not mysterious to me though no matter how much they try or I try, due to my chart

Aquarius - original/revolutionary thinking/approach which brings a touch of mystery

Pisces - they are a mystery to themselves too haha their mystery comes from the fact that they don't know what they will feel next, they are flowing; their escapism too, obviously (12th house placements included here, very private and mysterious)

Sagittarius? odd thing to say, IMO. Usually these placements bring upfront and blunt energy in the chart and make all the other placements more extrovert.

I guess my way of looking at astrology prevents me from being able to answer this question as it was asked...as I don't believe that any sign is objectively more mysterious than another...it all depends on our charts, and what makes sense to us and comes naturally, and what doesn't.

I can share some of the ways in which I have found each sun sign to be mysterious:

Aries: They do not seem to get dragged down by the same things that drag down virtually everyone else. They have a different kind of resilience, which I lack. Sometimes I have been feeling heavy for no reason and it struck me that "If I were an Aries, considering my current circumstances, I would probably be smiling and enjoying life right now. Instead I am burdened, just existentially burdened. How do they do it?"

Taurus: Their pace can mystify me and frankly, it is alluring...I mean platonically...talking to a Taurus, it's like listening to a lullabye. I wonder how they do that? I can't slow myself down that way.

Gemini: Honestly they don't seem as mysterious to me, because my Mars is there, so I do know what it's like to dodge around...the mystery comes in the fine points of, "What exactly compelled you to hit the eject button NOW, and in the style you did?" But also, Gemini suns have mental abilities that tend to be phenomenal.

Cancer: Occasionally I get very emotional and life becomes hard because of it...I wonder if they have this problem every day? What's it like to live that way? Total mystery to me.

Leo: Despite SO many ways in which they are up front and "what you see is what you get" there is such an abundance of life spirit in these folks, it's inexhaustible, so what you see is only a partial expression.

Virgo: If I had to pick a sign that I think is objectively the most mysterious, it might be Virgo, because just going by my own impressions, they are the most complicated, in the face of modern expectations. They seem to fit in least. It's as if..the world is in chaos, but they were designed to make more perfect an already decent natural order. I might sound non-intelligible saying that...it's a larger theory that would need a longer post and more research. So anyway...

Libra: As athenaia said, "...one can never truly know the ill-bred thoughts in their head because they're too busy trying to cover them up with their idea of 'harmony' instead."

Scorpio: They do not give information out lightly and without a strong trust in the way the information will be handled.

Sagittarius: These people have presence. I don't. How do they do that??

Capricorn: I honestly feel that mysticism circulates within every Capricorn heart and mind, and explains how some of the things Caps come up with are transcendent.

Aquarius: Has a brilliance and quickness that exceeds most. How do you catch up, if you honestly can't? So what surpasses, eludes.

Capricorn like many others have stated, they can say very little and have a whole world inside of them that you'll just never understand.

- Scorpios because they control their emotions so well. They usually have a very cold front, but they feel very deeply. Yet, you'll never know how they feel unless they tell you.

- Pisces men (women tend to be a bit more open). They have this "awkward"/"shy" yet extroverted vibe going on, you never know if they're introverted or extroverted because they switch behaviors so quickly. Yet, they're shy and rather mystical. They're pretty cool people when you get to know them because you never know what you're going to get with them.

- Virgos : They're so perceptive yet rather detached emotionally. You never know how they feel and they can sometimes be rather two faced (depends on the person) but they're so analytical and logical. They rarely speak about how they feel and that's what I like about them.

- Libras : These people can sometimes be so quiet and composed, it's hard to know what they think. They're observant and quite reserved to an extent. They have a certain mysterious aura but it's less "mystical" than their Pisces counterparts.

- Aquarius : They're slightly more reserved and composed like Libras. It's hard to know what they think because they're not exuberant at all. They have no problem when it comes to socializing though. They're not overly mysterious but rather "detached" like Libras.

Leos, Geminis, Aries and Sagittarius people aren't that mysterious to me because they're so extroverted, open and exuberant. It's hard for them to hide what they think because they like the spotlight and mingle with everyone. They're social butterflies so mystery is not part of their DNA unless they have other placements.

Last November a Pisces moon friend of mine of about 12 years (who is deliciously exotic to me, her Aquarius sun and other placements mixing with her Pisces placements to give a very surreal view of the world) drove me to Texas where she met my Pisces moon cousin who was about like an older brother to me (both of us lived on and off with Granny and we were very close despite how he'd torment me and I'd get him back for it) and even with over a thousand miles between us we still kept in touch. These two have never met and came from very different backgrounds (she was raised a very dark black girl in south Los Angeles, he a blond white boy with a Dixie flag fetish in the rural sticks of East Texas, I admit I was a little worried about bringing them together) and as they first meet they looked into each other's eyes and start talking about past lives they'd known each other from and were glad to see each other again!

While my BFF has talked about her past lives before I didn't even know my cousin believed in past lives! And then he starts telling how he always knew of previous lives and found it frustrating when we were little kids because when he'd mention about us in previous lives I didn't know what he was talking about and that the very reason he got me on shrooms when I was 13-14 was because he was hoping it would help me recall those previous lives of us together. I knew that when he got into moods of his he'd lock himself away to play his guitar and it was a very bad idea to disturb him (even when he was a kid the adults learned to leave him alone then despite that the they weren't shy about using corporal punishment) and he said when he played the memories of other lives sometimes came.

And then...it got even weirder. My cousin shared about his past life as an Irish musician well over a thousand years ago where he called me with his music from fairyland (whether that was where I was actually from or I was a taken mortal he called me back he wasn't sure, though from his perspective in that life I was a full fairy) and that ever since he and I have danced together through many lives, and my BFF added in reasons for why it made sense. (This includes Granny calling my "Pix" and "Pixie Jane" when I was a small child and when I visited Granny in 2011 after she had a pulmonary embolism she kept calling me Pix again so I thought of it when I had to choose a LL name.) And they were both going on "the true nature of fairies" as if they were both experts and just how "wild and dangerous they can be" with the other agreeing, "Disney has it all wrong." And so on.

So there I was, my BFF of a dozen years who is a black woman raised in South LA meeting my blue-eyed blond cousin from the sticks I've always known and remember in my earliest childhood memories and while I was a bit worried how they'd get along together they were bonding over things I couldn't remember (even over memories of ME in other lives) and in those first few minutes of their meeting I felt they knew each other better than I knew either of them!

Good thing I have a high tolerance for the surreal (it's part of my fairy heritage, don't you know ) as I'm sure many would've been freaking out at that point.

Cancer I don't find mysterious except on reflection this thread made me feel those I've known compartmentalised a lot and maybe because of strong emotions had to build a fort. I imagine they could be a sign that could completely make a new life elsewhere whilst giving little away of the old one.

one of the most mysterious I've known personally, a virgo sun, it strikes me they've got a very active 11th/12th house, most of planets in top left of the chart., mainly hidden in 12th. They also have neptune on mc and funnily, just before reading the above post, saw they have pisces moon.

In general any one who comes off as mysterious might have Saturn, Uranian, neptunian and Plutonian emery. Lots of them.

If you're just a Scorpio sun or an aqua sun, youifht not be terribly influenced by Pluto or Uranus.

Water and earth signs hold info more than others so the appear at first glance to be more mysterious.

The Virgo 8th would be labeled mysterious for me.
Virgo's and Cap's I find " hard to read", actually the hardest to read, but that's just in general without the 8th house. I don't know why.

Overall I would say heavy Scorpio and Pisces are the most mysterious... To pinpoint because there is something that they hold back, always.
