My birth chart has Sun conjunct Saturn in the 8th house. My dad is a Libra with Cancer rising (Asc conjunct Saturn), and Moon in Virgo. (His Jupiter is conjunct my Asc.)
My dad was/is an excellent father because he was a reliable provider who also lived his principles. Quality of life, being in a good place, moral instruction. Being involved in my sister's and my education was important to him, even though that involvement took him for years out of higher paying professional work as a landscape architect.
He made his mistakes and has his flaws as every father does, but I have no complaints left outstanding. He is still married to mom after 50+ years. So I couldn't have had a better example of commitment. (Same for his dad, and great-granddad -- lifelong marriages). And he is an artist, a painter, a writer, a poet that makes me proud and helps motivate my writing efforts more. He is also a good listener and lets me yammer about whatever is on my mind those infrequent times we do talk. We only differ on matters of religion, but he even bought me some of my first astrology texts once he saw my interest and knack for it 20 years ago.
I have probably taken for granted the upbringing I had, and the parentage I enjoyed. Of course, I could never have said that as a child, especially as a teen, because I lacked the perspective I have now.
My wife had to be put into foster care at age 3, and adopted later. Seeing what others have gone through and are still going through with their broken families and meager parenting it makes me appreciate what I had much more.
