I absolutely love to sing. It is one of my favorite things to do (singing for a living would be my dream career). It just makes me feel better. Have liked doing since I was little. In fact, in my dad's song, Dr. Everywhere, about our spiritual conversations when I was 4 (where I talk about the importance of having more love and concern for each other, in a universal way), he references to this with this lyric line:

"...You sing the songs that you hear, you got a good ear, tell me what's on your mind?"

And music is almost a food for this self, in general. I love listening to other people sing and/or play as well. One of my favorite vocalists of all time is Bono, and I do think he is aptly named. I just love his voice. He has (or more so had) a great range, a harmony and balance to his voice, and it is just very pleasant sounding. There is a quality to it where he has a good balance between masculine/Yang energy and feminine/Yin energy.

No surprise that he has very powerfully highlighted Taurus in his chart. I've seen this as a definite pattern. But I also think Venus is often a major factor, as well as sometimes the 5th House since it corresponds to creative endeavors (though this may relate more to writing lyrics or songs).

As for self, I actually don't have Taurus that highlighted, though it is the sign on my MC (with Taurus Chiron closely conjuncting), so maybe it is more highlighted than I tend to think. But MC is more specific to career and how you serve the larger society around you. Venus is pretty strong in my chart since it is in the 7th and in a wide opposition to my Asc. Besides the Taurus MC, I also have Moon in Libra. And Venus is my only planet above the horizon (and closest to MC). Venus is not my strongest Planet by any means, but she's definitely fairly highlighted.

Do you love to sing? Do you have a talent and/or skill for it? Astrologically, do you see any other factors that relate to it beside Taurus and Venus? Who are some of your favorite vocalists?

Btw, I'm thinking of starting a singing/karaoke thread in Lindaland Central 2.0 section where I plan to upload vocal covers, and definitely would invite others to do so as well. I don't particularly like singing in front of a camera, so these would just be audio only and linked to my google drive account.

It's a bit uncomfortable being an introvert with Leo Rising. On one hand, I tend to prefer to keep things to myself, and I don't need much outer approval, like, interaction, etc, but the Leo Rising part of self sometimes prods me to put myself out there more and to be more self expressive. A fairly highlighted 5th may also factor in with that.

I love to sing and I have a talent for it. I come from a long line of singers too, my family is kind of locally known for it. These days I'd say I have some skill at singing too. I probably could have made a career of it, but I prefer a more stable 9-5 type job tbh. As it is I have singing as one of my main hobbies. I sing in a choir and am the designated solo singer when one is needed. I'm a mezzo-soprano, and if classically trained I think I'd fall under dramatic mezzo-soprano (the witches and step-mothers lol). I have a BIG sort of voice.

(Sample of my voice: http://vocaroo.com/1ad94cQUh2WG )

I have the classic Venus in Taurus, mine is in the 8th house. I'm a Libra rising too. Second house is Scorpio with Pluto in it. The most exact aspect in my chart is Mercury semi-square Venus, and my Sun is on the Venus/Mercury midpoint. Neptune is very prominent in my chart too, being angular and aspecting almost every planet and notable point. And if we look at asteroids I have Euterpe, Orpheus, Singer and Chant all exactly on my Sun either by longitude or declination. So the astrological indications are there on every level I think.

One of my favorite vocalists is Sarah Vaughan. I love her voice and I especially admire her voice control. She also had Venus in Taurus (the same degree as my own Venus I just noticed), conjunct her descendant. And Neptune was her most elevated planet.

I love to sing as well and I’m a massive Taurus. I have Sun, Jupiter and my chart ruler Venus in Taurus and 8th House. Unfortunately I don’t think I qualify as a natural talent. I recently started singing in a choir and am taking singing lessons. I’m also a mezzo soprano but not anywhere near singing solo. My Mars is closest to my MC so I don’t think I will be well known for any artistic accomplishments.

I really like the singer Floor Jansen from the band Nightwish. No Taurus, but strong Libra and Venus conjunct Mercury.

So far Nadja and PlutoWasHere, you're both backing up the Taurus and Venus pattern big time. Thank you for sharing those vocalists; I'm going to check them out at some point.

Meanwhile, Bono's chart: (actually, there are two charts listed for him on astro.com. Personally, I don't think either is correct. I get the sense that it might be very late Aries cusping Taurus. He would be a massive introvert with the two above charts, but he is not so much, and he has a lot of fire and passion in his energy, but with a spiritual focus/slant and ideals [chart ruler in Pisces?]. Some people think he presents as bit of an egotist and/or mild narcissist, which would fit the Aries cusping Taurus far better than Cap or Virgo Rising. He also looks like a blend of Aries and Taurus, way more than these other charts, imo).

I set up the Singing/Karaoke thread in LindaLand Central 2, and put up a few songs over there.

The first one is Elvis Presley's Blue Christmas and is dedicated to my absentee partner.

I have Venus and Moon in Taurus. I dont know if its because I didnt take singing lessons, but its kind of hard to sing and I usually sing lower octaves or with my head voice. It might be that I have low self-esteem shows by my t-square with Venus involved with Jupiter and Saturn opposite each other that are making me like this. I have songs that I know how to sing them and I guess I have a singing voice, but it hasn't been practiced and adding the low self-esteem....

I actually make music since I was 23 years old when I bought my first guitar and recently I started doing electronic music in Ableton, putting my lyrics that I gathered through out the years, but it has been a slow process for me. Some of my friends that have started doing music, they have already learned so many things that I know also, but I guess the low self-esteem makes me to be a late bloomer in anything I do.
http://soundcloud.com/krssss/krs-road-to

This is the first song I made in Ableton. Now I'm working at one that has one my lyrics in it. Ignore the other two )) I made them in another program that was too limited.

Getting back to music in the chart. Singing voice is shown by Venus and Taurus placements and Neptune rules music and poetry. Aspects from Neptune to personal planets in trine, sextile, I would count the conjunction too, but dont know if we should. Also pisces placements.

Hi Chryssa. I didn't have any lessons either, just a lot of practice, as well as doing some research and listening to what others more trained or practiced than self have said. (With that said, lessons would probably help to improve things).

Not sure why the low self esteem, but I understand, I was like that when younger. The astrology only indicates/reflects/correlates with, but doesn't actually cause these things.

Thank you for the song share (probably would be better for the other thread I made though). I get a kind of blend of Pluto, Saturn, and perhaps a bit of Neptune vibe in that song.

If you enjoy singing, you should stick with it, and practice it more. A lot of it is about getting comfortable, playing around with it, practice, and listening at a deeper level, and then of course learning about some helpful techniques. But with Taurus Moon, perhaps it was a strong past pattern for you, and now it's not meant to be as strong as a focus? Dunno, just speculation.

Like for example, my partner had a clear, vivid guidance dream where she became aware of her Soul colors/vibratory patterns, and she was a bit surprised by the lack of yellow (which relates a lot to Mercury and the more intellectual, and analytical part of the mind/brain). She became aware that it had been a strong past focus and it just wasn't a necessary focus in this life.

Interestingly, she has Moon in Aries (the sign of the head and relates to the more intellectual/analytical mind), with the ruler of same, Mars conjunct Mercury (the Planet of the intellectual mind). Moon is a very past oriented symbol.

Yes, do agree, that Neptune has some definite connection to music, though less so specifically voice. Neptune is that intuitively receptive, feeling, sensitive part of us that "downloads" info from other dimensions/levels (often unconsciously) that comes out looking like creativity and inspiration. A lot of it is actually a type of channeling and deep listening. And yes, Pisces tends to be creative, musically inclined and sensitive. Mercury also relates some too, to the more structured, analytical, and timing parts of music--like reading music or analyzing when listening to it.

In my chart, I have Taurus MC with Venus in Aquarius angular and almost exactly sextile Sag. Neptune in 5th and trine Libra Pluto in 3rd, and then Pisces SN Angular. I kind of kick myself for not having devoted more time and energy to music when younger (when it is easier to learn and pick up things). With a chart like that (also a strong Mercury), I probably could have become a decent musician. My father is a decent musician, and so isn't my brother.

But so far, just voice for me. (Played a little trumpet in elementary and started to learn how to read music, but I don't really count that since I don't remember any of it).

Just a little bit more info on Floor Jansen:
Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floor_Jansen
Birth chart: https://astro-charts.com/persons/chart/floor-jansen/
Most popular song - Ghost Love Score - Live: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYjIlHWBAVo

I really like the style of Nightwish. There is a lot of storytelling going on backed up by dramatic music. They are also known to be very strong in their live performances. I think it fits my H8 stellium to like this type of music. And checking my synastry with Floor, her Aquarius/Pisces Venus, Mercury, Sun and Mars in my H5 and her Libra Jupiter/Saturn conjunct my ASC. My fondness of her singing seems to be backed up by astrology.

You have a lovely voice Nadja! I can definitely hear you have a classical background. It sounds very beautiful.

Sarah Vaughan has a very soulful and jazzy voice. My singing teacher is a lyrical soprano and also a Jazz singer. I find Jazz very soothing to listen to. Is this also a style you like, Nadja?

GCE, yes, my songs are written in minor keys which gives them a sad tonality.

I usually write about sad things and theres some dark aspect to them. When I was in therapy, this girl told me that my main character feature is that I'm melancholic, so I can't write happy songs. 😁

In terms of astrologycal aspects, venus is in wide trine to Uranus, Moon is trine uranus, neptune, sextile sun, trine north node, opposite pluto.

<3 Thank you! I don't have a classical background actually, I just wish I did. Never had any singing lessons of any sort, they were always financially out of reach. I'm good at imitation though so I've learned that way. I only listen to music that I can sing along with and I do like challenging myself. I don't have any particular style of music that I enjoy more than any other, whatever is fun to sing is what I listen to.

Speaking of Nightwish... I don't know the singer you mention, but wasn't Tarja Turunen a singer for that band previously? I remember admiring, and imitating, her voice a lot.

Venus in aspect with Mercury is usually found among singers, as well as writers, poets and dancers and all those who have a very special loving bond with language and generally a creative heart seeking to be expressed. I know Elvis Presley has this aspect. Also Carl Jung, F. Scott Fitzgerald, T.S. Elliot and Rudolph Nureyev. It is an aspect that fills your "voice" with so many colors that all you want to do is to share with the people around you the beauty of love, the beauty of life...

Shakespeare talked of the beauty of music through his Lorenzo in The Merchant of Venice. Of course we are talking about Shakespeare! Who not only had Venus sextile Mercury, but also the very powerful artistic aspect of Neptune conjunct Venus.

The Merchant Of Venice / by William Shakespeare

Act V, Scene I

Belmont. Avenue to PORTIA'S house.

Enter LORENZO and JESSICA

LORENZO

Sweet soul, let's in, and there expect their coming.
And yet no matter: why should we go in?
My friend Stephano, signify, I pray you,
Within the house, your mistress is at hand;
And bring your music forth into the air.

Exit Stephano

How sweet the moonlight sleeps upon this bank!
Here will we sit and let the sounds of music
Creep in our ears: soft stillness and the night
Become the touches of sweet harmony.
Sit, Jessica. Look how the floor of heaven
Is thick inlaid with patines of bright gold:
There's not the smallest orb which thou behold'st
But in his motion like an angel sings,
Still quiring to the young-eyed cherubins;
Such harmony is in immortal souls;
But whilst this muddy vesture of decay
Doth grossly close it in, we cannot hear it.

Enter Musicians

Come, ho! and wake Diana with a hymn!
With sweetest touches pierce your mistress' ear,
And draw her home with music.

Music

JESSICA

I am never merry when I hear sweet music.

LORENZO

The reason is, your spirits are attentive:
For do but note a wild and wanton herd,
Or race of youthful and unhandled colts,
Fetching mad bounds, bellowing and neighing loud,
Which is the hot condition of their blood;
If they but hear perchance a trumpet sound,
Or any air of music touch their ears,
You shall perceive them make a mutual stand,
Their savage eyes turn'd to a modest gaze
By the sweet power of music: therefore the poet
Did feign that Orpheus drew trees, stones and floods;
Since nought so stockish, hard and full of rage,
But music for the time doth change his nature.
The man that hath no music in himself,
Nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds,
Is fit for treasons, stratagems and spoils;
The motions of his spirit are dull as night
And his affections dark as Erebus:
Let no such man be trusted. Mark the music.

Enter PORTIA and NERISSA

PORTIA

That light we see is burning in my hall.
How far that little candle throws his beams!
So shines a good deed in a naughty world.

NERISSA

When the moon shone, we did not see the candle.

PORTIA

So doth the greater glory dim the less:
A substitute shines brightly as a king
Unto the king be by, and then his state
Empties itself, as doth an inland brook
Into the main of waters. Music! hark!

NERISSA

It is your music, madam, of the house.

PORTIA

Nothing is good, I see, without respect:
Methinks it sounds much sweeter than by day.

NERISSA

Silence bestows that virtue on it, madam.

PORTIA

The crow doth sing as sweetly as the lark,
When neither is attended, and I think
The nightingale, if she should sing by day,
When every goose is cackling, would be thought
No better a musician than the wren.
How many things by season season'd are
To their right praise and true perfection!
Peace, ho! the moon sleeps with Endymion
And would not be awaked.

Music ceases...

Yes! Tarja is also a wonderful singer, but there were some issues within the band and she either left or was asked to leave. After that there was another singer, Anette Olzon. But she also left. Floor Jansen replaced her and has been with the band since 2012. I’m not a hardcore Nightwish fan but listen to their music every now and then. There are however some very dedicated fans out there. I find it fascinating to see how dedicated some people become to their idols. They absolutely worship them. I find it such a strange phenomenon, but it happens a lot. Especially with boy bands or male singers, some girls and even grown women seem to totally loose their mind.

Thank you EternalEnergy, that is interesting information. It does make sense that people that are creative would have Mercury in aspect to Venus. I have also seen in descriptions that Mars in aspect to Venus can be related to creativity. If I remember correctly, it was in the chart of Björk.

And Moon together with Mercury is also an aspect found among the most gifted writers of all times, like Leo Tolstoy, Henry David Thoreau, Franz Kafka, Robert Frost, Tennessee Williams and Gustave Flaubert and anong the most talented singers in the whole world, like Johnny Cash, Dean Martin, Jimi Hendrix, Bryan Ferry, James Brown, Keith Urban, Eros Ramazzotti, Andrea Boccelli and Bob Marley! A great aspect to have! A gifted writer with a sweet voice...

My daughter loves to sing, always has, and she is involved in musical theater... even her major at college. She is a Taurus Mercury Venus in 9th (3 degrees conjunct), just a few degrees away from the MC, and Taurus NN in 10th.

She has Chiron in Cap trine her Venus. Neptune trine her Sun. So there is some more anecdote to back your theory up! Her dad's side of the family is quite musical, so I will look through their charts.

well i have venus conjunct mercury in the 5th house, wide trine neptune in the 1st. with an unfortunate kicker - a taurus chiron parallel mercury in the 5th.

i love singing but only do so when all alone. got caught in the act once and was downright mortified - had pulled up to a friends place, sat in the car to finish a song and out of nowhere my door flung open. "wtf! you know how to sing? i dont get it. why do you not sing in front of people ever?" frozen. did not respond. chiron is such a vibe killer sometimes. however, recorded myself once out of curiosity and it sounded atrocious.

GCE .. Can you read music?

Nadja!
Your voice is outstanding!!
You definitely have Talent.

Your 'skill' for singing was probably helped-along by your experience of singing in choirs.

The musicians that lead those singing groups (who have had formal musical training) usually are giving the choir lessons in music, and voice.

Over time, a professional/teacher who leads a choir will have trained its members on proper breathing, breath-control; learn to keep good pitch, listening to others and matching your pitch to the other members. They can teach 'the group' how to shape the sound (using their imaginations), and to add to the energetics/emotion by singing with the understanding: conveying the meaning behind the music, the text/lyrics.

Your choir experience (over the years) may have played a part in enhancing and shaping you musically. Taught you good habits.

Your voice-itself (solo) shows Natural Talent!
Depending on the community involved in this musical experience you had, I'm surprised (and sad) that no teacher took you aside to give you some private lessons.

So. What 'kind' of choirs did you participate in?
Was it a higher ability-level Community Choir? ..
Church Choirs? --
Auditioned for College Choirs?
Small ensembles?

Nadja.. Those asteroids all conjunct your Sun?? WHAT an AMAZING find!!!

Check any connections with asteroid 81 Terpsichore-- as Muse of Dance and Choristers.

Could search for 'name' asteroids of singers you like, or 'name' of composers from certain historic time-periods.

Mee__Chryssa.. Will you be adding vocals to your rhythmic instrumental pieces some day? The piece you shared creates a great baseline upon which to add layers.

Self-esteem problems has definitely been the foe and fault that has handicapped some people who actually DO possess a trainable natural voice (or other instrumental) talent. Without a strong ego, people can fail to make it in a career in the music world.

Sauerkraut, you have the singer markers--
and add that you "got caught in the act once and was downright mortified" -- (oh nooo!)
That 'chiron' in your Taurean 5th house mix could have stood for a wound you received in your childhood years?.. Think back-- perhaps someone in your family (like your siblings, jealous schoolmate, horrible teacher) cruelly intimidated or undeservedly criticized you to the point one day that it 'stuck' in place?

The industry calls some singers "Diva" --
you 'need' a robust Ego to be able to take the criticisms that WILL come. Also, the general public can be 'fickle'-- lavishing praise one moment, and 'not' in another circumstance. Might not even have to do with 'you'-- their reactions can be based on something happening at-large with the world or community.

However too-- Some can lavish 'empty' praise.

When I was a kid in school, there was a girl who had been known for the beauty in her voice tone accompanied by a lovely vibrato. She could project her voice well! (loudness)
. .
For years, her mother had paid for her to have expensive singing lessons-- and pushed HARD to try to get her daughter noticed by talent-hunters in the music field, hoping to get her into the music world as a professional singer.

Thing was? The girl was definitely very pretty. The girl had a pretty voice. However-- the girl could NOT HEAR her 'pitches' very well. She would warble along, sounding beautiful in her 'trained' operatic-type sound --- and at some point departed from staying on melody. She had low talent for hearing and staying on pitch.

People were kind of 'stuck' for making responses: the woman generously gave much money in the community as a Patron for Arts Programs. People didn't want to "hurt her feelings." Yes she had a nice voice BUT she was actually a "terrible" singer (because the girl couldn't discern when she'd go and remain off-pitch in certain registers of her voice).

In some of the popular television talent shows (like 'American Idol' etc), to me it would be shocking to hear some of the first auditions. Some folks looked great visually. They'd confidently step-up to sing-- and some were "terrible" singers, who had been convinced by friends and relatives that they were 'the next Idol'! Gave some really POOR auditions in front of the panel of entertainment professionals. --

People like Simon Cowell actually were doing the singers a FAVOR, relaying the news that these individuals didn't possess enough talent for performing on the public open stage.

Regarding aspect: 'Neptune trine Mercury'?
This aspect has been found to lend a Healing quality to their voice.

Mirage, yes, that was just my first try in electronic music.

I took notes of lyrics that were crossing my mind throughout the years and now I'm working at a song with some of my lyrics in it.

Yes, you are right. I actually thought that just some can sing, but everyone can sing if they are getting used in using their singing voice. Depends only on the octaves that someone can sing, they just have to find the ones that they can and build their music around it, for some will be harder and for some will be easier.

One friend of mine has Mercury and Moon in trine to Uranus and Neptune and he does have a great talent to draw.

Holy Moly, this thread kind of blew up while I was away. Initially didn't think it would get much attention at all.

My fondness of her singing seems to be backed up by astrology.

It's funny, but when I was listening to Ghost Love Score, the above is exactly what I was thinking.. "So this is how your strong Pluto and 8th House manifests." It's an interesting contrast between the almost ethereal and semi operatic like voice with the heavy metal like guitar and overall structure. Very dramatic. Like deep, bright, clear blue placed next to deep red. She does have quite a voice. Thank you again for sharing.
