This little lambie needs to count sheep. I've found tonight completely pointless. Pointedly, I will not argue pointless arguments. I will point my wear butt toward the bedroom and dream of green balls.Nightie night and sweet dreams IP: Logged |

"I could easily forgive his pride, if he had not mortified mine." ~ Jane Austen To the extent that we are capable of doing so, we ought to distinguish between pride and vanity. I myself am guilty of both, but far more guilty of vanity than pride. Mostly, it is my vanity which offends, though, largely, because it is mistaken for pride. My vanity is immense, but more to be pitied than reviled. My pride is not so bad, and has its reasons. In any case, it is only my candor which makes these things so apparent, and such easy targets. They seem larger than they are, only because I confess and display them so honestly. There are many who harbor these vices to a far greater degree than I do, but it is not in their nature to unmask themselves, and expose themselves to every slight which lies in wait for a man willing to be, and to show, himself.
"Pride and jealousy there was in his eye, for his life had been spent in asserting rights which were constantly liable to invasion; and the prompt, fiery, and resolute disposition of the man had been kept constantly upon the alert by the circumstances of his situation." — Walter Scott
"Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would have others think of us." ~ Jane Austen
"Vanity is a mark of humility rather than of pride." ~ Jonathan Swift
This, however, is mine other manly prudence: I am more forbearing to the vain than to the proud. Is not wounded vanity the mother of all tragedies? Where, however, pride is wounded, there groweth up something better than pride. That life may be fair to behold, its game must be well played; for that purpose, however, it needeth good actors. Good actors have I found all the vain ones: they play, and wish people to be fond of beholding them—all their spirit is in this wish. They represent themselves, they invent themselves; in their neighbourhood I like to look upon life—it cures my melancholy. Therefore am I forbearing to the vain, because they are the physicians of my melancholy, and keep me attached to man as to a drama. And further, who conceiveth the full depth of the modesty of the vain man! I am favourable to him, and sympathetic on account of his modesty. From you would he learn his belief in himself; he feedeth upon your glances, he eateth praise out of your hands. Your lies doth he even believe when you lie well of him: for in its depths sigheth his heart: “What am I?” And if the true virtue is unconscious of itself — well, the vain man is unconscious of his modesty!— ~ Friedrich Nietzsche

Miss D for D ~ quote: I shall never mess with you, AG, or mess with Zala, along with certain other individuals. Should any of you still perceive me as the person I was three years ago, instead of what I am here and now- don't mess with me, and I won't mess with you.
I won't "mess with you", unless you are out of line as respects LL's forum rules..... As a matter of fact, I respect and admire your knowledge, your courage and your guts in transforming your life and going on with your studies, and trying to put your family and the events of your life into perspective, and experience soul-growth. So you say you'll never be my friend?? OK. No worries. I may wonder what it was that alienated you from me (and AG, since you've bracketed us together), but I won't lose any sleep over it..... And I would give a lot more credence to your continual declarations of "I've changed in 3 years! I was confused then, but now I'm fine, see!" if you had not just blasted a fellow Knowflake to Kingdom Come in an extremely vituperative manner (exactly as your "old self" used to do)..... Pire. Some stuff for you on the astrology forum in the celeb thread. http://www.positiveastrology.com/ The whole site is worth a read if you have never done so before, it opens up a whole new way of looking at synastry. Have a look at DD's solar return whilst you are at it, she has only had one attempt so far. IP: Logged |

BM,the theory of progressed synastry as Paul Westran describes it, is really amazing. Got me all enthusiastic about astrology again, when I stumbled over it. And it seems to be on spot in most situations; another thing I personally noticed that there is curiously often a Sun-Mars-aspect in the progressions, too, but only in union with a Venus progression. I thought that might be significant maybe. IP: Logged |

Pire,I understand you. Sometimes I am quite a bit frustrated myself; I`d love to do more astrology in depth, but I guess there are only a handfull people who are interested in investing so much time and study into it. And it`s probably okay, astrology should also be something to enjoy. And not everyone enjoys searching for patterns like I do. But there are interesting threads, too. At least interesting to me. What would interest you? IP: Logged |

It's the mindset that can be problematic. Shifting up a gear from asking what aspect or sign causes someone to be, well, vain, for example, to a more symbolic level where the chart is a guide. Vain is a word that seems to get attached to the phsyical more often than not though I think the intellectual version is just as abundant. My true love did tell me early on in our relationship that it was not attractive to flaunt my cleverness so that told me, lesson learned -> there you go astrologers, his Sun/Saturn is Conjunct my 3rd House Mars/NN. "inordinate self-love is the cause of every sin ... the root of pride is found to consist in man not being, in some way, subject to God and His rule."
