lol, wheels.

If you dont want to contribute,
that's more than okay with me.

If I find something
that contradicts this,
I'll take it into consideration.
But I'm more interested in
the evidence that supports it.

The primate argument is just
a small fraction of the whole,
and not my main reason at all.

take care

Okay then, a small google of "Palaeolithic Diet" should tell you that man has been eating meat for the last 2.5 million years and didn't need a cosy fire to cook his food on, contrary to your Victorian anthropologist's view that man couldn't possibly eat raw meat.

The very famous primatologist Jane Goodall's work on chimpanzees proves that chimps have been eating meat pretty much forever, though it was only discovered 40 years ago. http://www-rcf.usc.edu/~stanford/chimphunt.html

Okay, wheels.
You're probably right.
Thanks for setting me straight.
I'll stop using that argument.

Instead, I'll talk about
how evolution works.

As I understand it,
it goes forward,
not backward.

I believe that,
as we develop spiritually,
we can make conscious choices
not to exploit animals.

I dont model myself on apes.
I model myself on masters.

"All beings tremble before violence.
All fear death, all love life.
See yourself in others.
Then whom can you hurt?
What harm can you do?"
~ Buddha

As I have pointed out repeatedly to you Valus, I actually support what you're doing wholeheartedly. I just don't want to be belittled into doing anything just because you think it's appropriate to my life.

I am trying to show you in the simplest terms that if you start doing that to people you open yourself up to accusations about your own behaviour from others - who have different, but no less important, priorities. And hey presto, there you go making excuses for why you can't possibly give up your car. My point is you should be lenient on yourself and other people. I don't believe you should give up your car tomorrow, and in fact you have provided quite an adequate reason as to why you can't. Your reason doesn't hold water when I look at it from the point of view of MY life, but it is MY LIFE, not yours.

Please give me some sign that you understand this.

Thanks, wheels.
I'm proud of me, too.

I'm trying to tone down
the belittling stuff.
I do feel very strongly
about these things, though.
And when people are rude,
or smug with me, its hard
not to respond in kind.
Problem is, I'm so good at it.
That is to say, so bad at it.

But I'm trying.

You dont mind if I repeat
the quote I posted
in your thread?:

"It is better for the environment
to eat a salad in a Hummer,
than a cheeseburger in a Prius."
~ Bill Maher

And you are right,
if I was perfect,
I'd do without the car.

But I think that not
torturing and killing animals
is a more pressing issue.
And that it would also
have a profound effect
on the environment.

'Zala,

Just a word more
on the astrostereotyping.

To clarify:

I'm not at all averse
to positive stereotypes.

If you want to talk about
how Scorpios are gifted healers,
who uncover hidden treasures,
go right ahead.

Scorpios *can be* great healers -- my chiropractor saved my health
She was the one who started me 2 years ago on the study of inflammation as a precursor to/cause of many diseases and chronic conditions.
She provides me a high quality probiotic.
We’ve passed on knowledge to each other – because of my studying and guinea pig efforts, she’s recommending living clay to some of her clients. She turned me on to Mercola, I turned her on to Weil and the Health Ranger.

Well good, I'm very happy for you that you have come to this conclusion about eating meat. I really do think you are right, but I do not think others are wrong if they don't think the same way. I will most likely arrive at the same conclusion in my own time. I just know how very very hard it is to pursue a vegan diet and I'm just not set up for that at the moment. The irony is that most of my meals are vegan as I spend the majority of my week in a vegetarian's house and he does not own a fridge.

Me, smug, I don't know what you're talking about.

I apologise for any pantie-wadded comments.

I feel exactly the same way Wheels does. But Valus, I also will not abide (sadistic, as kat said) "shock tactics" such as those that have been used here recently. I and others have attempted to share with you that the Attack Method doesn't win the "converts" you seek and drives people away from listening to you at all (which you refuted using the number of posts in your string, which has *nothing* to do with the positive exposure of your ideas nor the validity of your "cause," only the near-universal condemnation of your methods). If you had said, "Wow, have a look at what I've been eating and learning recently, what do you think?" instead of the "YOU ARE WRONG, CHANGE NOW!" approach, we could have had an enlightening discussion and a real sharing of ideas and suggestions.

But, that's not your way Valus. God help me, I still have hope that YOU have ears to hear, as you expect and entreat *us* to.....

Please note: I think it's fabulous that you've gotten healthy and are eating vegan!!

Good points, wheels of cheese.

I am apathetic about this whole thing.
I am trying to stay out of it.

I haven't really debated anything. I am not here to compete with anybody nor get them to believe and practice what I believe in. That doesn't work for me. I am not interested in converting anybody.

I just give alternative viewpoints. Anybody that knows me knows that I tend to do that on any subject. It doesn't necessarily have to do with what I believe.

Some people believe that blood types are connected to types of diet. I am O positive myself, and I am supposed to have diet that consists of meat. I don't believe in that. I tend to be skeptical about certain things, but I will keep an open mind. That's how I am about things in general.

Many animals that are vegetarians may not be true vegetarians because they tend to accidentally eat bugs off the plants that they eat. Bugs are said to be a good source of protein and Vitamin B-complex.

Also bugs are washed off vegetables too.

so meat eating or not, there is always some killing of creatures.
