One of the reasons my mom doesn't like her mom is she was named Mary Jane. I was named Becky Jane. My initials were cruelly twisted in school until I insisted on being called Jane (as if it were my first name) and after switching to another school it stuck. I later went under the alias Janet as a runaway. I like names that sound exotic to me, though of course if I HAD been named that, they wouldn't be exotic. Perhaps if I'd been born Russian, I'd think those exotic names were boring and enjoy "Becky Jane" more. And exotic names have their own problems. Like my BFF is named Dacia...pronounced Day-sha. People are always either mispronouncing or misspelling her name. I suppose I'd find that annoying myself after awhile. IP: Logged |

I like exotic sounding names too, Dervish. My oldest daughter I wanted to name "Raven." NOBODY liked it. My son I wanted to name "Elijah" or "Julien", again, NO! And my youngest I wanted to name "Asia." NOPE. I tell you, if I had it to do over, I wouldn't have listened to my parents, His parents, him, or my friends. After all, I am the one giving birth, and I am the one devoting my life to raising them, darnit! I should get my way! PS. I told them all what they would of been named if I had my way, and they are all glad I didn't get my way, so, go figure! IP: Logged |

I listened to other people when naming my children, too. I wanted to name my son "Mitchell", my first daughter "Savannah", second daughter "Juliet" and my third daughter "Georgia" or "Jorjah" for a different spelling. IP: Logged |

quote: Teasel; You did get the cream of the crop in names, one of my faves. Do you like the Rolling Stones song, "Angie." I love that song.
Thank you, Gypsee. I told my mother what you said above, because she was disappointed to find out that so many girls were named Angela, right around the same time. Re: the song - for the longest time, I didn't know how pretty it was, because I would lunge for the 'power' button on the radio, whenever I heard the very beginning (anyone in the vicinity - mainly my father - would mimic whatshisname - Mick Jagger - and it bugged me). I finally heard the whole thing, when it was included in a movie (Panic Room?); I've liked it ever since. IP: Logged | |
