Can we resolve our own battles,
or, if need be, fight them,
without having to be told to
"go to our rooms"?

Do we really need a pseudo-objective
third party to play "virtual parent" here?

And what traits do you look for
in an ideal or mortal moderator?

"Balance" and "fairness" come to most minds.

But a person is not balanced or fair
just because they can hold their temper.

Someone may appear to be agreeable because
they keep honesty, and us, at a distance.

And I know people who act calm and collected
while they nit-pick and say "I told you so",
and take tiny bites over months and years.

It's more cold-blooded, but more accepted.

They mostly do it in schools, or packs,
so they can each take a few bites of you
and do a lot of damage without any single
one of them having to take responsibility
for really tearing into you.

They'll each scold you for something just once,
so you'll be scolded for it a dozen times.

Then they'll each scold you a dozen times, lol.

They'll team up on you and misinterpret you,
and read each others misinterpretations and
refer to them, rather than your own words,
and you won't have time to answer them all.

If you do, they'll say you hijacked the thread,
and if you don't, they'll hijack you, lol.

They'll wait for you to show enthusiasm,
or idealism, or passion for a noble cause,
or something you created with your heart,
so they can swoop in and tear it to bits.

They'll pick at the seams to find a lose thread,
and then tug on it until the tapestry unravels.

They'll do the same to you, and yours.

I guess they think it proves something.

When you eventually lose your patience,
as you inevitably will, with their picking,
they'll just find fault with you for that.

They'll be calm and collected the whole time.

Sure will. And it still proves nothing.

This may sounds fatalistic, but,
maybe it doesnt matter who moderates?

There are too many cliques,
and cliquey people, on this board.

People who want to belong to a crowd,
and don't care who's right or wrong.

People who say "to each their own",
unless you have a mind of your own.

And people who think you are "asking for it"
when you take an unpopular position; that is,
when you take any position worth taking.

Anybody who becomes a moderator here
will either be corrupted, or will stand alone.

I don't know anybody here who'll stand alone.

And if there is such a person,
he or she isn't winning any popularity contests.

So maybe Randall should pick somebody
who nobody voted for, lol?

Oh, well. Makes sense to me.

I'm not a part of any clique, and I haven't been back to the thread to see if anyone has chosen the people I mentioned in my post. I have no vested interest in any one person becoming a moderator here; those I mentioned were those who visit regularly, tend to get along with everyone (everyone has their off days), and as far as I know - they don't hate you. Several people mentioned, could even been seen as a part of your "clique".

This forum doesn't only involve you and your threads. I don't say that unkindly, so could you refrain from responding with a smirk, or sarcasm? I still think that Yin would make a good moderator, if she wanted the job - does she still want it?

Valus.

Teasel, I think it'll be a bad idea in the end. I tend to side with the underdog and also censor myself too much. I need to learn how to stop doing that and go with my heart rather than my political correctness. Thank you, though. ♥

The problem with this notion of cliques is that most people come here for the community. They come to belong. By and large they don't come to stand alone. Valus is no different in this regard.

I've not been sufficiently omnipresent and all-seeing on this board as of late to judge how true this is of the members here*, however I have definitely seen people behave like this in schools and in "adult" society. Yes, there is a lot to be said for being a loner.

*Having said that, I have definitely felt an element of this over the course of time of being here.

Thank you both.

The issues are always more deeply rooted than they appear. But how deep are we willing to dig? Do we start with "Some time in the summer of 2004..." or do we just let things go?

Having been here for years, we get so caught up in the histories of LL members and our formed opinions of them that anything anyone says on here is already colored by people's preconceived notion of that person's character.

I did feel hurt by that thread and it did affect my life at the time. Can I make anyone apologize and mean it? Probably not.

I do honestly believe that God sees everything. (Yes, even you, smirking cynics! )

If It Be Your Will

I discovered this video, the performer and the author on a thread posted by Valus. Even if this was the only thing I ever learned from him, I will still be eternally grateful for coming across him on LL.

I read that first link to the thread. It's sad and disturbing to see people going at each other like that.We should be here to inspire, learn and support one another.Closing that thread in case something is stired up again
