I used to HATE going to someones page and discovering too late that they had 50 videos and 100 glitter blinkies that would either take 15 minutes to load or crash my browser completely.

Very annoying.

that's the reason why I prefer FB.

I said the link is there, somewhere, but it isn't forever displayed on your profile page, sorry if that wasn't clear. I haven't been being clear for awhile.
I liked seeing peoples video tastes displayed on their page.
I could do without the glitter though..

Now, don't you find some people's FB profile pages boring? I look at them and all I see is their updates from Frontierville or Farmville, or whateverville.
It's just not personal. To me.

I have a link tab on the top of my page, all you have to do is click that tab and all videos and links I have ever posted are right there.

I can also scroll down on my page forever to old posts........

I like both sites, when I visit, but Facebook annoys me with their continually making it so that you have to make sure your privacy settings are still intact. I don't need to know what everyone is doing all over the web (if they don't want to share), and nobody needs to know what I'm doing either (not that it would be that interesting to most people). They eliminated one of my settings, and it bugged me. (Although, I also know, before anyone goes there, that I shouldn't expect anything to be 100% private on the internet - why offer privacy options at all, if they're just going to change them again and again? rant over.)

I also feel weird posting about myself there. Pictures are fine, links that I find interesting, music, etc... as long as I'm posting about something like astrology or a goal (like at 43T), it makes sense to me to share certain things... I like checking out the pages of others, but don't often fill out the "what's on your mind today? with anything other than links.

MySpace is tailored for people with high-speed connections--that's for sure. Facebook is like eating vanilla ice cream every day. I love vanilla, but with thousands of flavors, why settle for just one? I love creative people, and I enjoy seeing their personalities exhibited. BTW,a bunch of people migrated back to MySpace when Facebook began showing their shopping histories to their friends. Oopsie!

Can a few people go to my Profile and let me know if it loads reasonably quickly and if they can read it okay? My page appears way too dark to view with Firefox, so Internet Explorer folks only, please. Thanks!

That's just the type of thing I was referring to above. Nobody needs to know that sort of thing.

I do love that I've reconnected with old friends and family there, though. People I went to school with, er - I've reached the point where I go to put in how long ago, and end up writing, "too long ago". I do love hearing from them.

I have that tab too, Nephthys, I just meant it wasn't SPLATT! right there, like MS. One has to scroll, in other words, look/work to find it, lol. Call me lazy.

This is an endless debate, cause we are comparing Apples to Oranges!
I did go to myearbook yesterday (alot of people I know are starting to use that one) It looked very... youngish. And I didn't like the layout, but, you know, if everybody I know switches over to that, I guess I would too, because the whole idea of being social is to have someone there to be social with.

Never mind, my page is private, so the graphics won't load unless you're my friend.

Facebook has become a marketing conglomerate and people just have to stop "liking" every stupid little "group" or organization unless they know it is legitimate.

I only "like" organizations that have to do with wildlife, nature, and science. Or if it is a friends business or something you know is honorable.

I think any company, be it Google or some other company, will do well if they take the positive aspects of FB and MS and develope a product that has more flexible and positive attributes, more privacy, and less advertising and less marketing. Of course, they couldn't be free to us, if there was no advertising or marketing.

One of my beef's with FB is that when I comment on someone's photo, it displays that photo along with my comment to EVERYONE!

How do you change that?

There's a story behind that. My ex bf had a beef with...I dunno what you'd call her. But he posted pic's of her nude on his FB. So one day I was looking at his pic's and BAM there it was. So what did I do? I commented on the pic's. I just posted things like "Really?" and "that's nasty".. come to find out ALL of my friends had the misfortune of viewing those photo's along with my comments....quite embarrasing.

So please...how do I turn that feature off..?

Winky, Whenever you comment on someone's photos that are NOT PRIVATE then it will be displayed on all of your friends home pages that you did that. Anyone who's wall, and photos are visible to everyone, and you comment, will be displayed on all of your friends home page "Winky commented on so-and-so's photo......link......etc."

For example, all of my pictures are on "friends only". If you comment on one of my pictures, only you, me and my friends will see it.

hmm..

i used to be on myspace back in 2006/07. by late 07 my uncle introduced me to facebook, before then i had only heard of it.

why i like facebook instead of myspace:

it feels looks clean to me, not bland. and mature.

myspace i feel is related to fancy profiles and music and videos, and 'top friends' more so than social networking.

facebook, social networking wise, just works so much nicer. what really won me over was how nicely the photo albukms worked and the tagging system that myspace tried to use.

facebook apppears atleast, to have a much stronger, broader network of users. it wins in the important 'social' networking factors hands down.

i hope they never let people customize their profiles as much as myspace. that brings too much emphasis on the profile its self rather than the networkign features! which is why myspace is behind.

if facebook were to implement a designable profile, i would hope its only some gentle subtle changes people can make, like colors, but nothing drastic. let facebook be facebook, and 'myspace' be myspace.

facebook sounds better.

hmm..

things i like about myspace:

use of music and videos.

facebook in this area, could work on something that makes it 'cleaner' and easier, to keep up with videos in some ones facebook, and their albums if you ask me.

music is tough because of copyright. and to me, this is where Google can get ahead of these two.

they can implement youtube into their social networking thing as much as they want, and people can post music and playlists based on videos that way i bet.

what google really ought to do is come up with something these two havent been doing, but not just do it, DO IT WELL.

and they must also implement the same strong winning features facebook has. myspace doesnt really matter to much, its the network and simple clean and efficient features of facebook they need to employ to get somewhere, and IF they can, take it to another level and implement some new things facebook hasnt thought of.

if they implment anything from myspace, it should be some gentle subtle ideas on profile uniqueness/customization.

i root for google simply because im happy and want to try something different, and hopefully better than both facebook and youtube.

i just tried gmail recently and it works so much faster than hotmail. im still unsure about yahoo, iv never tried them too much.

Arghhhh! I got on FB this morning and on my profile page I have some boxes there, so it looks more personalized.. one is a BFF box, which is very handy, all I do is click on the persons pic and it takes me straight to their page, I don't have to type in their name.. the other one was a quiz result, and the third was my profile song.
Anyway, it now says... "note, FB will no longer be supporting boxes as profile applications, please bookmark this before it's removed" I'm paraphrasing, but you get the drift.
MAD.
Now it will look even more bland.

I agree with you letram...I have a myspace but I get so tired of all of the band requests and what's even more irritating is the friend requests from love scammers. They are almost always the same "Hey baby, I was looking at the profiles here and came across yours. I don't know what it is but I had to stop and say hello....ETC" oooo those p1ss me off. And I get more of them than the band requests.

I noticed that when I joined a group on FB (and it's SO my fault) about interracial dating, I'm getting bombarded with friend requests on FB where I wasn't before. Lesson learned.

I'm curious about the new Google/YouTube site.. I'll definately check that out...

Winksy,

I had on my myspace page "Friendship and Networking" and men would send me sexy comments, and I would reply, "thank you but I am here just for friendship, like it says on my profile, and I am in a serious relationship." Did they stop? No. Then they would change the comments to cute kitten/puppy things instead of love, sexy ones........and get mad if I wouldn't reciprocate. HELLO!!!!!!

I met some WONDERFUL people on myspace, and had an enormous amount of wildlife pages on there, so it was GREAT for wildlife/environmental networking, but it got more and more superficial for me = I could not take it anymore, even though I would deny tons of "men" requests....... + with all of their upgrades I simply could not do ANYTHING there anymore without my computer getting stuck and frozen or going into a "loop". I can't even leave a status update now without my computer getting frozen (I still currently have Tatiana the Tiger's page). Oh and the new home page there SUCKS

I prefer facebook.. because I am friends with the most amazing 4000+ people who are raw foodies and spiritual minded (the occasional noob of course), but every time I log in I get the most inspiring videos shared, links, incredible notes/poetry, it's all about the information- and when I want to tune out I just simply log off. When in history has this ever been possible? It's amazing! So many beautiful souls I will never meet but I can easily interact with. I don't mind what facebook looks like, to me as long as you can post videos, pics, links and notes, I'm happy! And of course be careful of what information you share is a given, I wouldn't post anything i am not happy with the whole world knowing about me.
I have reunited with people I lost contact with, a childhood friend, cousins ect... The apps are meaningless so I ignore/block them all and I am so glad boxes are gone!
I think myspace is ok because you can still do all the above but it's not as exciting as fb is to me. I don't think I could find anything better than FB.

Sunchild,

I really think you would love my posts but I have the feeling you never see them b/c you have over 4000+ people on your page........so your home page must be a virtual highway.......

I, for one, don't add just anyone, I am very selective who I add b/c I am a very private person........and I don't have any desire to "collect" people on the Internet.......with a higher friend count, I will see less posts of the people who are significant in my life.........I am also there to help spread awareness ~ that's what works for me.......not criticizing anyone at all, everyone is different and uses social networking in a different way........I love my FB too and the awesome people and organizations who are on my page
