It's no secret that I am no fan of Facebook. I don't believe that they deserve the popularity they have. I feel like MySpace is a far superior product. But it is what it is. Well, Google is rolling out their own brand, and it has Facebook execs quivering in fear. Anything Google touches turns to platinum. It's a done deal. It's going to happen. That's a fact. But there's also an unconfirmed rumor that it will be a collaberation effort with MySpace and You Tube! Facebook is the number 3 video download site in the world, so You Tube is happy to kick them further down the ladder. I can't wait to see how this plays out. ------------------ "Nurture great thoughts, for you will never go higher than you think." Disraeli IP: Logged |

Still getting to adjust to facebook but I do prefer Myspace more (although there have been some glitches this past week).------------------ quote: "What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies with in us." -- Ralph Waldo Emerson

It's probably too late for Google. They'll have to come up with some really innovative stuff to lure people to make a change, and even then people have to really want to.Not everything Google touches turns to platform. This will actually be at least their second foray into the world of social networking. IP: Logged |

Myspace and Facebook are totally different........however they are both used for social networking. Myspace was actually created for musicians. Facebook was created for Yale college students. IP: Logged |

I was more into Myspace a couple of years ago or so. It seems harder to navigate now days, but then again I haven't been around it much to get used to the changes. I love FB because I have found so many people or rather they just seemed to find me. And I mean a lot of people from my past came crawling out of the woodwork. I just seem to be incredibly busy lately and can't access it from work, so the weekends are my only shot at that. Kinda funny.. forums like this aren't supposed to be accessable at work and...wa la lol. To each their own... I'm curious about the whole Google thing. Facebook took quite awhile for it to really become popular and catch on. And if I remember correctly, so did myspace. IP: Logged |

Facebook was actually created for the nerd creators to pick up chicks and get laid. They admitted to it in their book (soon to be a movie). I like the Top Friends fuction of MySpace and the creativity of the backgrounds. Facebook is bland to me. I see MySpace being number 1 again; they just need to do something to get them recognized as a major player in the game again, so new movie releases begin using them along with Facebook. They have been indifferent, but they need to start taking action. ------------------ "Nurture great thoughts, for you will never go higher than you think." Disraeli IP: Logged |

Same here, Winky, everything is blocked from my work too, but here!!! I understand what you mean about the differences b/t MS and FB, Randall, but in essence, their formats are very different. I used to have a Myspace page but it got way too superficial for me ....... (I won't get into that)....... + with all of their upgrades my computer kept getting stuck and I just couldn't navigate anything anywhere. I do still run the Tatiana the Tiger page there, though. "Facebook was actually created for the nerd creators to pick up chicks and get laid."Hey I'd love to do that too. Not to just get laid. I'd be open to meeting my future wife on facebook. I made Developmental Neurodiversity Association facebook group back on June 3, 2010 (Sun conjunct/oppose Geocentric Uranus Nodes,Earth oppose/conjunct Heliocentric Uranus Nodes, Earth conjunct The Great Attractor), and now the group has over 500 members. It's growing fast. I definitely believe the group can have thousands of members. I just now started advertising to people in other countries today. I felt that it was time to expand. The goal is for DNA to an international non profit organization. I am very happy to reunite with relatives and friends that I haven't seen in 10 years of more. Currenty 16 relatives are on my facebook. Facebook made that possible. Of course, I made more friends on facebook too. I have way more friends on facebook than I have on myspace. I like the applications on facebook too.

I preferred myspace for a long time for the same reasons as Randall. The creativity factor is huge for me, and FB is very limited in what you can put on your profile. HOWEVER, they made some changes which made it much more difficult to navigate, as Wink said, and the major one was posting videos.. This was my favorite part of myspace. Nothing lasts on FB. I mean, your link is there somewhere, but a video you post goes away as your profile feed changes, and that is annoying. A friend of mine keeps reposting the same two or three videos every day, and really, it got so annoying seeing that in his feed. I asked him if he had Tourettes or something, it was like he just kept randomly shouting LYNYRD SKYNYRD! or something. He said, "Well, those are my favorite songs and I want to see them on my page and play them everyday!" Well, you can't, you have to go to youtube for that. *Actually you can put up ONE profile song at a time on FB, an idea I totally jacked from AG, thanks AG. So, if the new google is a combo of myspace and youtube, I think it would totally fly. But, they need to have some good games as well, because alot of folks are totally addicted to their games. *Raises hand guiltily* Also, alot of the kids are using the yearbook one now. In fact, I looked up one of my cousins on FB, and her name popped up, but it popped up with a message thingy that said she was on yearbook.com. I haven't gotten around to checking that one out yet. RE: The music thing Nephs said. Yep, everytime I get on myspace, I have a friend request, and it's always from a band, hardly ever a person. I think that is a turnoff for some people. When I was actively using myspace, I had to delete some bands for clogging my feed. I cannot stand when someone is constantly advertising their.. whatever.. I mean one or two notifications a day is ok, but if I can't see what my friends are doing because you keep telling me to go to your page because you sound like Ozzy Osbourne, it's not cool. I don't know anyone who is still using MySpace, unless it's a band member covering all possible promotional bases. 99.9% of MySpace pages are just fugly to me. I find all the blingy stuff and cartoonized pics of topless women holding thorny roses, and teddy bears holding hearts just... icky. It would be cool if Google Me takes social networking someplace different as people are always on the lookout for a better way to communicate and/or promote. I use Twitter, but would be interested in a new network that doesn't have the big flaws of MySpace or Facebook. Of course, Google Me will probably have it's own flaws! It's just a matter of what flaws I'm willing to deal with. I'm really looking forward to seeing The Social Network. I'm a fan of David Fincher. The Village Voice critic who saw an advanced screening said it's an amazing film. His early review is here, if anyone is interested: http://www.filmlinc.com/nyff/2010/revenge-of-the-nerd quote: I do still run the Tatiana the Tiger page there, though.
Even though I'm not on MySpace, I'm really happy to know there's a tribute to Tatiana on it!IP: Logged |

Is being addicted to games a criteria to grade a social network? ------------------ "Nurture great thoughts, for you will never go higher than you think." Disraeli IP: Logged |

Ooh, I don't know about game addiction, but MySpace and Facebook both have them (and some of them are the same game, just different platforms) so maybe they are even in that aspect? I'm pretty sure that Google would build in their own games since they have so many that are licensed to them, but perhaps they will add a social twist to some. ???And I probably should have added in my earlier post, that I've not seen MySpace pages of LLers, but I am *sure* that your pages are among the 0.1% that I would like! Being addicted to games isn't a criteria, but it is a draw for alot of people. I mean, what do you do when you are on there, and nobody you know is there to talk to? Playing games is a stress reliever for alot of people, AND also a way of meeting new friends. If we start dividing up the networks into those that host games and those that don't/ those that have music and those that don't, etc.. there will be so many it will be difficult to find the people you are looking for, and then we are back to square one. Myspace does have some of the same games, like Mafia Wars and the Vampire one, can't think of the name, but it doesn't have alot of the other ones. The copycat ones it does have similiar to FB are very poor quality. Unfortunately, or I'de be on there alot more. My kids still use myspace every day. They prefer it to FB. IP: Logged |

I don't go to Myspace anymore precisely because people that think they are being really 'creative' witn their pages are really causing problems for others that try to view them. I used to HATE going to someones page and discovering too late that they had 50 videos and 100 glitter blinkies that would either take 15 minutes to load or crash my browser completely.Very annoying. This isn't true. Every link and every video I have ever posted on FB is still there. Nothing disappears on mine. quote: Even though I'm not on MySpace, I'm really happy to know there's a tribute to Tatiana on it!
THANK YOU!!!! My friend made the page, and he gave it to me and now I run it and edit it.
