Me too, popcorn. And that would be the beauty of it! We could clean up the atmosphere in Astro 2 and other forums by quickly tossing contentious threads into their own forum.

No, nothing like that! I was so stunned to discover the true identity of my unborn baby's father - Jupiter, NOT my stepbrother - that I fainted and hit me noggin. I've been sick with amnesia, ain't that the way it always goes around these parts. *shakes bandaged head in amusement* But thanks to some serendipity, I found myself back here at LL. Your mere presence triggered such love & (let's be honest) horniness that my identity came flooding back to me. I owe you my life!

Excellent point! We could forbid links to that forum. Better feng shui. People should take the long way to that forum, symbolically separating that part of the house from the civilized parlor.

(More in next post. I split my post in 2 to make it not appear so dreadfully long to your Aries eyes. I'm considerate like that. )

Right, cuz people have been consistently doing that already.

Let's face it - periodically people are going to fight here.

Is it this place's natal chart?
The tension that comes when people spend so much time together in a confined space?
The color palate (purple lights my fire!)?

Since we know periodic fighting is the reality...

and we know people are sick of it infesting other forums...

and we know even reasonable, highly valued members of this community feel that the current system doesn't allow people enough freedom of speech during disagreements...

Why not solve all that in one forum?

quote:
Most people can self-moderate. For those who can't, moderators exist.

See, I think if given the chance to self-moderate in one forum, people will (more often than not) do a good job of it. New idea for forum name: Moderbation, where you moderate yourself.

I think, as things are now, people have a lot more freedom here than they realize. The *idea* that we're being moderated creates the illusion of less freedom than really exists. That illusion creates anger and rebellion.

Once people have a forum that appears unmoderated, they'll feel more free.
With that feeling of freedom comes the birth of choice, and then people will show who they are in the choices they make.

I believe most people will actually make smarter, more responsible choices when they believe they're their own boss, than when they believe someone else is controlling them. No rebellion, just self-creation.

But I definitely think there needs to be some minimal ground rules that prevent genuine abuse. I'm fine with fake abuse.

RANDALL -

You have the opportunity here to help people discover their own freedom and responsibility. Are you, a strong, reasonable, and wisely humble Cap leader going to pass that up?

On what do I base my appraisal of you? I saw your recent threads where you expressed regret over not giving a warning pre-banning & when you guided your moderator to a more moderate path. HOT. My Cap Venus is all a-tingle. I'm breaking out the stockings and pearls. ONLY the stockings and pearls, if you catch my drift.

D@mn, you distracted me. Where was I...I know a new forum would mess up the numerology here. It would take us from 27 (one of my fav numbers) to 28 (absolutely disgusting). So...how about we skip ahead to 33, a master number? The empty 5 forums can be reserved for future need. A few for Astro/LL Central 3 & 4, and one unnamed for when the need strikes.

quote:
The 33 is the most influential of all numbers. It is the Master Teacher. The 33 combines the 11 and the 22 and brings their potential to another level. When expressed to the fullest, the 33 lacks all personal ambition, and instead focuses its considerable abilities toward the spiritual uplifting of mankind. What makes the 33 especially impressive, is the high level of sincere devotion. This is shown in its determination to seek understanding and wisdom before preaching to others. The 33 in full force is extremely rare.

Now how can you say no to that?

We could even call the new forum "33" and put that write-up in the description to inspire people to be their best selves there!

And doesn't Pluto in your sign have you just aching for some experimental growth? A social revolution where people learn how to get in touch with their own inner Cap?

If my reasoning is poor, tell me no. Please don't fall under my spell. I need someone to see past the persuasive skills I honed through various activities. Go hard on me. Please. But first let me get the pearls on...

And Randall, if such a forum were created, I know what my first rant would be about: squatters. Not those in buildings, but on the internet. That's right. I'd host a telethon there to raise money for LL.

Since writing this thread, I've received more info about what happened. It was kinda hard to know the story when so much of it got deleted.

I find it unacceptable to delete members' posts when all they're doing is expressing dissent and/or their affection for other members. They weren't violating the membership rules. You, Randall, put yourself above the very wise rules you had in place.

I don't want to post here anymore bc I have no respect for that lack of respect for the rule of law.

A few comments...

1. Randall, your "It's My House, so I'll Do What I Want" stance...

Not an accurate analogy.

Instead, what we have here is more like a house party to honor Linda Goodman. It's your property. On the lawn, you put up "Linda Goodman" signs. You grabbed a bullhorn and attracted us with this speech:

quote:
Welcome, every One, to Linda-Goodman.com, a site dedicated to the memory of our beloved Linda. Linda did not want to be re-MEMBERed as an astrologer. She wanted to be re-MEMBERed as a great writer and a poet, and this is how we choose to honor her name. Of course, all this aside, Linda WAS a great astrologer; she had the intuitive gifts necessary to grant her a place in history as arguably the best astrologer of all time. If you Love Linda and her writings, you will Love Linda-Goodman.com and the people who come here to honor her. Membership is free, and you are only a click away from Lindaland. Do your S-elf a favor, and join us now. All of your fellow Knowflakes are waiting to get to k-NOW you. It's warm and cozy inside, like mewling kittens, and you just might chance upon the unmistakable k-NOWing Spiritual presence of Linda her S-elf. Linda loved debate, so in her memory we do encourage debates. You are free to speak your Minds about anything, but please, use no profanity or personal insults. Linda was adamantly opposed to the medical theocracy and, in some cases, organized religion, and here in Lindaland we shall continue her legacy in those regards. As a Ram, Linda had a fiery passion for her beliefs, and we do encourage others here to do likewise. There will be no censorship here, and freedom of expression and speech rules supreme, but please be courteous and respectful of others while doing so. Linda had a talent for speaking her Mind without offending others. Let's try to do likewise. She was very opinionated, and when we debate with each other in a loving manner, we do her name justice. Peace, Light, and Love to all.

Linda Goodman was the brand used to attract us. It's reasonable for us to believe that moderation would be done in her spirit, the spirit that's described in this introduction.

So you provided the venue and theme. We came and brought the food and beverages. Some brought cash for beer runs.

A fight broke out. Someone said nasty things about you, so you kicked her out.

A friend of hers verbally attacked you for this and you kicked her out too.

This is when things got unacceptable. Some people wanted to comment on your actions, some wanted to say they disagreed, some wanted to leave in protest, and some wanted to express their affection and sadness for the departed... And you - by deleting and editing their speech - placed your hand over their mouths and said, "Shut up! This is my house and I'll run it how I want to!" And in doing that, you suspended the rule of law and became a dictator. Would Linda want to be a member here? Would she want her name on a site where the webmaster treats his members like that?

I understand the need for rules. It makes for a fair system. Ignoring the rules and ruling with public opinion would be unfair, but attempting to rule public opinion with censorship is wrong too. It destroys this site's integrity.

2. Libel.

What Spanky did wasn't libel. It was insulting and rude and, potentially, harassment, but it wasn't libel.

For it to be libel, she would've had to state a factual lie about you. For example, she would've needed to say something like, "Randall goes into chat rooms and pursues underage girls." She'd be stating a fact about you that's untrue and damaging.

The facts here are transparent. You flirted with Nikki in "Sweet Peas." Everyone here, if they wanted to, could view what happened. Her opinion wasn't testimonial evidence that no one else had access to. Instead it was her personal interpretation of what everyone else could also see.

Spanky didn't lie about the flirting. Where she went wrong, according to you, is that her opinion of that flirting was off the mark. She considered it "sleazy" and "predatory" but that was just her opinion of the facts. She didn't tell a lie about the facts, and everyone had easy access to the facts.

Even though not libel, it was still insulting, which could warrant banning from this board, as stated in the membership agreement.

Randall, in the past I never saw you act unreasonably towards members. (Maybe I just missed it. ) I'm wondering if Spanky's insulting comments threw you off your game and negatively impacted the way you moderate here?

Not at all. I admit that I should have given a warning first and let people have their say, although under similar circumstances, if directed to other Knowflakes, I would have deleted the offending/personally insulting material. So, maybe I was a little rash, but ultimately that kind of behavior isn't allowed here, towards me or anyone else. I haven't been around much in the past, but I am now, and I will enforce the rules. I don't see why being polite is so difficult.

For most of us, that isn't the case at all.
