http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=arse

quote:
arse
"buttocks," O.E. ærs "tail, rump," from P.Gmc. *arsoz (cf. O.N. ars, M.Du. ærs, Ger. Arsch "buttock"), cognate with Gk. orros "tail, rump, base of the spine," Hittite arrash, Arm. or "buttock," O.Ir. err "tail." Arsy-versy "backside foremost" first attested 1530s.

http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=ass.

quote:
ass
(1)
beast of burden, O.E. assa (Old Northumbrian assal, assald), prob. from O.Celt. *as(s)in "donkey," which (with Ger. esel, Goth. asilus, Lith. asilas, O.C.S. osl) is ultimately from L. asinus, probably of Middle Eastern origin (cf. Sumerian ansu). Since ancient Greek times, in fables and parables, the animal typifies clumsiness and stupidity (hence asshead, 1540s, etc.). To make an ass of oneself is from 1580s. ***** ' Bridge (c.1780), from L. Pons Asinorum, is fifth proposition of first book of Euclid's "Elements."

ass
(2)
slang for "backside," first attested 1860 in nautical slang, in popular use from 1930; chiefly U.S.; from dial. variant pronunciation of arse (q.v.). The loss of -r- before -s- attested in several other words (e.g. burst/bust, curse/cuss, horse/hoss, barse/bass). Indirect evidence of the change from arse to ass can be traced to 1785 (in euphemistic avoidance of ass "donkey" by polite speakers) and perhaps to Shakespeare, if Nick Bottom transformed into a donkey in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (1594) is the word-play some think it is. Meaning "woman regarded as a sexual object" is from 1942.

i started using arse here because i assumed ass would not post "out loud" but it does, doesn't it!! but *** doesn't...both have other usages that aren't considered rude, like animal names etc... sorry, titt..

in england not only are fags cigarettes but faggots are food...maybe it is the oral orientation that caused them to be used for gay men here??

up 20 minutes and already did 2 dumb things then logged in here and realize made a faux paux last night, batting 1000!

sometimes the only way for me to stay out of trouble is not get out of the bed. and dats da truf.

my new work out thing really is low impact, but it still makes my heart beat fast and my arms hurt after 5 minutes. i know that is supposed to be normal, but i'm not sure it's safe.

OK, my contribution to this thread is a chocolate overload.

Not too shabby for a poker hand either; 4 Queens!

Jwhop, does the chocolate melt in your mouth or your hands...or both?

Since they have chocolate in their eyes, would that be a double blind study? Hey, I'm all for supporting scientific research, so have at it, Jdog!

"Since they have chocolate in their eyes, would that be a double blind study?"

Spoken like a true scientist and what wonderful phraseology Randall.

Now, it's time to convince them to donate their chocolate covered bodies to a critical scientific study.

LEXX, are you into scientific discovery too?

LOL!
I have been known to be covered during wrestling matches/tug of war competitions;
in chocolate and or whipped cream, or Wesson Oil.
Or in pools of semi set jello!
Much crazy fun!

PS.Those ladies did not use enough chocolate syrup in my opinion!
Before licking the chocolate off, must add whipped cream and cherries!

Hmmmm. We are not amused at the idea of chocolate syrup seeping into our nether regions. Seems like a YI waiting to happen.

Practical and hygenic...I think my V is showing.
