juni i'm with you. you forgot the radiation from japan et al!

and coffee...

i was very drunk one night and walked in front of a london taxi cab just as he started up at the light. he rolled over my foot, which hurt for about 3 steps and never showed a bruise or twinge after...

i don't drink anymore but once in a blue moon. i started getting the hangover while i was drinking the first glass. once in awhile it's the right time though.

as to smoking did you see the post about aged premature deaths due to smoking? or the one about how smokers are less likely to get parkinsons disease than non or ex smokers? http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum25/HTML/002490.html

immortality is not about listening to doctors but yourself. you know when you have overdone it but the body is ever-renewing and can keep moving forward through a LOT of mistakes and "sins" against it.

then again if you have diabetes and are a binge-oreo eater (like linda) you have a major problem. IMO!

yes, that's the thing. if you live a few decades you start to see all the "absolutes" contradicted. if you live long enough you then get to see the contradictions contradicted again.

the only conclusion i have been able to come to is one needs to make up one's own mind. study the data if you will, but include the "other side" if you can! listening to your body and watching your life and energy are great guidelines for finding out what works for YOU.

I think co-dependency really kills you
You put your fragile sense of self in someone's hands who is equally fragile and you get---I don't know what but it is not good

I work outside in the cancer causing sun, breath the polluted air, drink dangerous amounts of well (*gasp* hard minerals) water.

I have been known to indulge in eating meat that has eaten grass drenched in acid rain, take medications as prescribed by licentious Drs. and eat sugary yummies..

After a day of all this and the humidity is high, I pour a nice cold cocktail and sit under a metal roof that may be oozing enough ozides to harm something living. Final nail is that cigarette I add to the cocktail and home made pie .

Tomorrow is another day and the good Lord willing and the creeks don`t rise, I`ll be here to see the sun rise again

Is there hope for me?

Conscious choices that you make in order to slowly watch your life shorten. I found that humorous reaction a little defensive. Quite telling. You can't do much about the Sun

Maybe eating meat is something you can use.
What you covering up for with the humour?

People would think stopping smoking is bad, but it's their own brain tricking them into thinking that stopping smoking is a cause of stress. I disagree that a few now and again would be bad, just look at passive smoking. It contains tobacco and plenty of other chemicals which will cause harm to your system, even if not shorten your life due to breathing being an important part of your life. Less breathing, or poor quality breathing means a much shorter life.

yes, if it's not cooked right, same with many meats. What about eating out in a place where you do not control how your food is cooked? My steaks are always well done. Many of you like them rare?

Does that apply to this situation? Where you life itself is at risk by dangers which are not made conscious?

Yes, that is a good example, Ami. Being in a relationship where your emotions and life are in anothers hands, is not good. People can, and have committed suicide when a partner cheats on them. Without the research, it seems to be men who do that. I wonder why.
