As an avid user of the edit function, I'd be sad to see it go as well. Just a suggestion: Perhaps the middle way is to put a time limit for when someone can edit their posts? Like seven days? Personal information can be edited within this time frame. This should be long enough to correct any errors as well. IP: Logged |

I know other sites have this function and it works very well. It gives the poster time to regroup or correct their posts. ------------------ Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it. ~Rumi~ IP: Logged |

Man, I personally hate any form of edit. That is my 2 cents!!

Some people have wanted the rest if their information gone, if they leave the board. It was fine sharing certain things when they were here, and it felt like a home, but not once they leave. The ability to edit is one thing I've always appreciated about this place. IP: Logged |

Unfortunately, if someone leaves on bad terms and consequently gets banned for very bad behavior, they lose the right to edit.------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." I didn`t know that but makes sense if they are "unregistered" ------------------ Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it. ~Rumi~ IP: Logged |

I'm talking about people who weren't banned. There might be things that I want to delete in the future, too. IP: Logged |

I feel the same way 100% as we like to be able to speak freely here and not monitor ourselves.

if a person was banned, it is their tough luck. To get banned, you have had to have been WAY out of line and have lost your rights, as I see it.------------------ Passion, Lust, Desire. Check out my journal http://www.mychristianpsychic.com/

The loss of the edit would put a hamper on my creative process. I generally throw something down, look at it for a minute then add, subtract or rearrange. My posts are created on the fly so to speak, edit is needed sometimes, lots of times. There were a few in the past who abused the edit funtion in arguments to make it appear as if they were being "attacked" after they got responses. That aside, I have no problem with the edit function (English second language here too) and it's handy to fix typos. The edit function should stay. Us mods use it as well to edit obscene language in posts etc. ------------------ quote: Remember, love can conquer the influences of the planets....It can even eliminate karma.

I'm OK w.removing the edit for a trial basis for whatever reason. I'm the type who posts quickly to the site too, but I also leave phone msgs while thinking on the spot, and quickly send off e-mails. So I don't see the big difference there.IP: Logged |

BTW, Mods would still be able to edit. The button would remain there, but only Mods would be able to use it.------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." Real life is not and should never be equal to virtual life. Here we DO have the opportunity to edit and censor ourselves as opposed to real life. This is one of the main ingredients of online life. Right, privilege, whatever you want to call it - it makes for a unique experience and it's part of the magic. IP: Logged |

Would it be difficult to add a "preview" option for posts? It wouldn't solve all of the complaints against the idea but it would solve some. I'm just wondering if that's a viable option... knowing so little about these types of forums. ------------------ Felines and dames in flames Will hardly serve my aims But in my dreams, it seems That my eyes are always shooting laser beams IP: Logged |

I agree with Lexx, Randall. Please, leave the edit function. I would feel as if I were in a straight jacket without it.------------------ Passion, Lust, Desire. Check out my journal http://www.mychristianpsychic.com/

Agreed - that's where it has proven a source of much frustration time & time again. That's the PRO for me; losing the "Edit" function would keep things more honest and fair since instigators would be unable to erase their tracks. But I'm divided on the issue - it is nice to be able to edit out personal information sometimes. *shrug* I'm not averse to an experiment. Doesn't hurt in the least to try it for, say, a week or so. YES--to me, the magic would be gone if I had to weigh my words. I know that *I* could edit as a Mod but I am thinking about other people and new people, in particular. I was on a Board once that had Mod's breathing down your neck for every little expression of anything and you could not edit. I left in a few weeks. I have to feel free. Maybe, it is being so mutable. I don't know but I love to feel free LOL

Some other boards do limit the time on editing but the difference is those boards are private and can't be seen on google. Also, Astro.com for example- deletes their info after a year or two and never stays long. I would stop posting on the board if it came to taking out the edit function. I might post occasionally if it was a private board.IP: Logged |
