His name is Ben. He is 19 and has had a stroke due to a suspected arterial abnormality. His brain is bleeding. While stable right now, his condition is very serious. Thank You!!

My son Ben had a major stroke caused by an arterial vascular malformation (AVM) in his brain.  He was apparently born with it.  They have successfully removed the AVM and most of the resulting clot, and Ben is now in recovery stage.  He is "awake", but we are not sure how aware he is or what his comprehension level is.  He is slowly improving, and we hope for the best.  He is at U of L in ICU where he will be for a week or so more, and then to the regular hospital for a few more weeks, and then to a rehabilitation center for an unknown period of time.  

There are still a lot of unknowns.

So glad the surgery is over and went well.

It's a better thing that they found it NOW, than later on when he might have been out on his own.

At 19 years old, his body has more recuperation-power than someone much older.

My roommate's sister (who is 70) went into a sudden coma last year. They say she had a stroke. Her organs started to shut down. Body was paralyzed. They were talking about 'hospice' and removing tubes. By ~three weeks, she woke up. About a month later, she came back to herself. Her FEISTY IRISH self.

She called her brother at Christmas, so full of life. She wants her driver's license back, fiercely!!

If the body, at age 70, can have several strokes in a row, and totally recover from it (~6mos later ... now one year), then certainly your son has a wonderful chance.

And he has a loving and devoted set of parents, and his extended family WITH him. How Beautiful.
