I just listened to a bunch of RUSH because I needed something intelligent, creative, and uplifting. But nothing I feel like sharing. (But perhaps I should share I didn't actually "discover" RUSH until a few years ago. I'd heard them before that, but not to recognize them or look for more.)

I also listened to We Are the World. I just wonder, what happened to us as a society? We used to be a lot better, and care about more important things.

To my shock, someone finally put this on YouTube, a folk singer Dar Williams singing about a date that becomes haunting and uplifting toward the end, not your typical romance song:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaUFnatZkAs

quote:
She never should have rented this apartment in the Mortal City
The cold comes though every crack she puts her hand up to
The radiator's broken, so she has to use electric heat.

And tonight was the first date
with the brother of the guy she worked next to
He lived a couple streets away
He listened, he had things to say
She asked him up for dinner sometime
Sometime was tonight.

The radio gave updates on the ice storm while she made the dinner
They said, from all the talk, you shouldn't drive or even walk
And this just in, we're asking everyone to turn off their power
They need it at the hospital.

She ran around pulling plugs, then she called him up
Maybe now they shouldn't meet, he said that he would brave the streets
She met him at the door with a blanket and a candle
Saying, I heard it on the radio, I had to turn my power off.

He said you're not the only one, the streets were dark tonight,
It was like another century
With dim lamps and candles lighting up the icy trees
and the clouds and a covered moon.

She said what kind of people make a city
Where you can't see the sky and you can't feel the ground?

I tell you something, I have this feeling that this city's dying
He said, it's not dying it's the people who are dying
She said, yes, yes I think the people are dying and nobody cares.

We got all this technology our dreams were bold and vague
And then one city got bad planners, one city got the plague.

He asked why did you move here? She said, for the job
For the job and I've been so lonely here, so lonely
There's no one I can talk to, you know I don't even know your brother.

He smiled and said, sometimes at night I walk out by the river
The city's one big town, the water turns it upside down
People found this city because they love other people
They want their secretaries, they want their power lunches.

And think about tonight, I heard the same newscast you did
I unplugged everything, I looked out the window
And I think the city heard, I watched as one by one the lights went off
So they could give their power to the hospital.

They ate in silence while she thought this over,
They sat together in a dark room in the Mortal City
Shifting in their blankets so they wouldn't get spaghetti on them.

Then came the awkward moment after dinner, what to do,
The ice was still falling, the streets were still dangerous
The cabs were not running and this neighborhood was not the greatest.

They both looked at the space where a couch would've been
She felt her stomach sink, she felt like she could hardly think

She said, I never should have rented this apartment in the Mortal City
The cold comes through every crack I put my hand up to
The radiator doesn't work, I have to use electric heat.

That settled it, they would both sleep in her bed
It was a matter of survival.

She brought out t-shirts, sweatshirts, sweatpants, socks, hats
If there was ever any thought of what would happen in that bed tonight
There was no question now
They could barely move
They were wrapped up like ornaments waiting for another season.

They lay in bed, they listened to the pelting ice
He said my brother's not a bad guy, he's just quiet
I wish you liked this city
She said, maybe I do.

I think I have a special kind of hearing tonight
I hear the neighbors upstairs
I hear my heart beating
I hear one thousand hearts beating at the hospital
And one thousand hearts by their bedsides waiting
Saying that's my love in the white gown,

We are not lost in the Mortal City
We are not lost in the Mortal City.

This one by the same singer (on the same album) reminds me of my older teen years living on the west coast, some wonderful memories of my life, and feeling the terrible power and potential of the ocean and life made me grateful for the beauty (and I did listen to this song back then):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AdG0sdAVbI

I loved both of those songs back in my teens, and I just enjoyed hearing them again

This one was the first song of hers that I heard: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hjikOI2BkQ&ab_channel=DarWilliams-Topic

quote:

After All

Dar Williams

Go ahead push your luck
Find out how much love the world can hold
Once upon a time I had control and reined my soul in tight

Well the whole truth
Is like the story of a wave unfurled
But I held the evil of the world
So I stopped the tide froze it up from inside
And it felt like
A winter machine that you go through and then
You catch your breath and winter starts again
And everyone else is spring bound

And when I chose to live
There was no joy it's just a line I crossed
It wasn't worth the pain my death would cost
So I was not lost or found

And if I was to sleep
I knew my family had more truth to tell
And so I traveled down a whispering well
To know myself through them

Growing up my mom had a room full of books
And hid away in there
Her father raging down a spiral stair
Till he found someone, most days his son

And sometimes I think
My father, too, is a refugee
I know they tried to keep their pain from me
They could not see what it was for
But now I'm sleeping fine
Sometimes the truth is like a second chance

I am the daughter of a great romance
And they are the children of the war
Well, the sun rose
With so many colors it nearly broke my heart
It worked me over like a work of art
And I was a part of all that

So go ahead push your luck
Say what it is you gotta say to me
We will push on into that mystery
And it will push right back
And there are worse things than that
'Cause for every price
And every penance that I could think of
It's better to have fallen in love
Than never to have fallen at all
'Cause when you live in a world
Well it gets in to who you thought you'd be
And now I laugh at how the world changed me
I think life chose me
After all

How are you not a predominant Uranian? That second song was quite something else. Loved the little Einstein interlude monologue.

Just remembered that we’re in a new decade, so:
http://youtu.be/LudEZb8-S2c
http://youtu.be/trbwqF0d7NA
http://youtu.be/ng8cDzyktE

Three songs that I listened to a lot in 2016, from the Generationals, The 1975, and Grouplove.

Great Idea...

I think were all getting older and music from are past is the best way to go back in time to when most of us were younger or to reflect on some critical moment that occurred in our lives.

Favorite of mine which I think somewhat reflects the mood of this thread and most users would enjoy it as well:

The Smashing Pumpkins - 1979 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4aeETEoNfOg

Loved the Fray!!.

I really miss:
The Fray - How To Save a Life http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjVQ36NhbMk

I remember waking up to Saturday Mornings with that song playing.

Coldplay - Viva La Vida (2008)

Nice beat, funny backstory.

Joe Satriani - If I Could Fly Sounded Similar to Coldplay- Viva La Vida so Satriani sued Cold Play for copyright infringement.

Then Cat Stevens steped in and said both Cold Play and Joe Satriani copyied Cat Stevens - Foreigner Suite which was release much earlier then both artists.

So Cat Stevens accused both Joe Satriani and Cold Play for copyright infringement and had planned to sue both Joe Satriani and Cold Play, lol.

It's a very common beat.
Just Listen:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwjX-23jP_g

If Cat Stevens wasn't such a nice guy he'd be a very very rich man by now suing multiple Artists, lol.

I miss 2005 it was the year Kelly Clarkson really took off, liked her entire album.

Also miss:

Cold Play - In My Place http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnIZ7RMuLpU

Cold Play - Clocks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d020hcWA_Wg

Modest Mouse - Float On http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTAud5O7Qqk

Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GemKqzILV4w

T.I featuring Rihana- Live your Life http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koVHN6eO4Xg

Fabolous ‎- So Into You http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WY85QiFbfdY

I can't speak for other Geminis or people with that influence its really a rhythmic thing with me.

That yin-yang Pluto thang brought me 12-year-old me’s eternal jam and first introduction to Neil Young, Talking Heads, Bob Marley and the Clash.

This was one of my favourites from the Pretenders: http://youtu.be/1SkWIqQ3oLY

BB King and Van Morrison: http://youtu.be/J3ztZiIFJ40 (I just love this one, and have done since I first heard it, when the CD was released.)

These are the Days, Van Morrison: http://youtu.be/_lyve_egY8o

S-S-Single Bed: http://youtu.be/4fHabgYqivc - Mum introduced me to Fox.

Tusk, Fleetwood Mac: http://youtu.be/EmuBOfurv3o - I love the drums, and now I want to dance. I’m supposed to be trying to sleep.

I'm dedicating this list to my metal lovin' days. I was very much into Heavy Metal a few years of my youth. These are so soft by modern standards. lol 🤣
My vibration is so far from thise days. I can't listen to 80s HM too much. I listened to 3 full songs and the rest in part. They are definitely labled right *Heavy* .. The chords are rough to my senses.
It was fun to go through memory lane though.

Journey - Stone in Love http://youtu.be/kFqXFE8OSG4

Ratt - You Think You're Tough http://youtu.be/rXWplKEUUB0 http://youtu.be/BNZDUTB174M

Krokus & Ballroom Blitz http://youtu.be/_fPjQZwhrOE

Def Leppard - Bringin’ On The Heartbreak http://youtu.be/TiR71VvCYks

Billy Idol 😍 White Wedding http://youtu.be/AAZQaYKZMTI

My favorite rock band then
Dio - Holy Diver http://youtu.be/2lvs2FzF64o
Dio - Rainbow In The Dark http://youtu.be/qcWKZTI9OC4
Dio - The Last In Line http://youtu.be/GnmpEU2EKVg

~ If I were able to listen to just one infrequently, Dio. To me the lyrics had substance and some guitar was smoother than the others. Heavy Metal is very Pluto, Mars oriented. I live more with Neptune/Uranus now.

(Might add later)
