This sting has been carried out in a few cities resulting in the termination of ACORN employees. I think the real issue, though, is why is it that this kind of behavior exists in this organization. Could it be that this is common practice in the organization? Are they so eager to help everyone that they would overlook everything and go as far as abetting lying to do so?

interesting reading nosis. not surprising. unfortunately. some of the linked articles were interesting also. i'm not so much on the obama bandwagon these days. it isn't a party thing, just my personal feelings about his agenda and administration. i don't much agree with jwhops often, but i clearly see his point on a lot of this stuff. it pays to be aware at least.

the last president i even liked / respected was Clinton.

ACORN ...well...i am not going to tell you how i feel about that bunch as i am sure it would be reflected as i am something I am not..... which is against the poor having a voice. thier tactics are less than desireable and I have to wonder how many uninformed souls think they are contributing to a good cause by supporting them, financially or otherwise.

i believe now or very soon, i am the minority...so tell me..... who is going to represent me and my rights (to own and operate a brothel?)

NosiS, thanks for posting this story.

Hmmm, did anyone by chance miss the part of the tall tale told to ACORN reps that these posers intended to smuggle 13-15 year old girls...from El Salvador into the US to prostitute themselves in those imaginary brothels?

Did anyone miss the advice ACORN gave the posers about filing false loan documents, filing false tax returns, declaring those young girls as "dependents" and only depositing about $500 a week in the bank account, burying the rest in the back yard?

I count at least 5 federal felony offenses committed by ACORN reps.

ACORN is an ongoing criminal enterprise and should be prosecuted under the RICO statutes.

puts me in mind of kwame kilpatrick and his thug brigade literally taking over detroit for several years. a dead dancer cover up and all after a big party at the manoogian mansion..it will be interesting to see how obama handles this.

Funny isn't it...how none of the leftists here want to jump in on the ACORN scandal.

Of course, leftists know ACORN is an O'Bomber enterprise. He trained their street thugs in tactics and promised them a seat at the table to set his legislative agenda. O'Bomber also gave more than $800,000 in campaign funds to one of the ACORN organizations for....stage set up at one of his campaign events.

Problem is that Project Vote...an ACORN sister organization with interlocking directors doesn't do stage lighting.

Now, the Census Bureau has told ACORN they will not be doing any of the Census work and the Senate passed legislation...83-7 to deny federal funds to ACORN.

Let's go further and deny any federal funding to any of the ACORN sister organizations which are part of ACORN.

It was ages...in a fast moving news world before any of the "in the bag for O'Bomber" so called MSM even acknowledged the problem with ACORN as shown by the videos. They were so hoping it would just go away. But when the 2nd video was released the MSM couldn't sit on it any longer.

Now, there's video 3 and video 4 is coming out today.

The seven Senators who voted against denying funding to ACORN are the usual leftist demoscat suspects.

One must wonder at the asleep at the switch electorate who send corrupt Reps and Senators to the Congress to support such corruption as displayed by ACORN. For God's sake, they were talking about smuggling 13-15 year old girls from El Salvador into the US to serve as prostitutes in the house ACORN thought they were assisting the fake pimp and fake prostitute to purchase.

I wonder how long it will be before O'Bomber throws ACORN under the bus...as he has Bill Ayers, his white grandmother, Reverrrrend Wright and Van Jones?

This is a major scandal. ACORN has it's tentacles well into the federal government, labor unions...including the Service Employees International Union, finance, housing and was eligible for up to 8 BILLION in Porkulus funds.

But, leftists would much rather talk about Joe Wilson saying "YOU LIE" to O'Bomber...which O'Bomber did from the beginning to the end of his speech to the Congress.

Well katatonic, I knew none of the leftists here would want to talk about the utterly corrupt criminal group...ACORN, which is joined at the hip with O'Bomber.

katatonic,

you talk all this jive about left-wing, right-wing, same chicken and then you post this comment that reeks of partisanship.

How about saying something worthwhile instead of coming on this thread to taunt and scorn?

Does it mean nothing to you that our culture has been infected with the freeloading philosophy of poorly regulated government welfare?

I'm sure that's not the case.

Media dam on ACORN videos has been breached
Thomas Lifson

The mockery of Charlie Gibson for being clueless apparently changed some minds. The media embargo on the ACORN tapes has been broken. Today, the New York Times, NPR and Los Angeles Times have informed their readers of the scandal. The Times' spin is almost comic. But far more importantly, Jon Stewart has spoken.

Stewart delivered a hilarious segment, mocking ACORN (and mugging for the camera to great dramatic effect) and the rest of the media. They have now officially become a laughingstock, and the story indelibly framed in the minds of younger Americans, who view Stewart in large numbers.

The entire 6+minute segment is a must-see.

On another thread here, someone (I really don't recall who) essentially said that government needs war in order to justify keeping and maintaining a military. While I would add that a war is never onesided, I do see a bit of reason in that argument.

So why can't some people see that the government NEEDS poor people in order to justify government run welfare programs? How do you justify taxing the crap out of us if you get rid of the need for those taxes? How do you justify the thousands of jobs and their benefit packages created by those programs if the programs are no longer necessary? If the government doesn't need poor people, how do you explain the fact that there are more poor people now than there were before we started with "welfare" (and that's not counting illegal immigrants)?

It's a simple fact that the more people need you, the more power you have over those people ... and power ultimately corrupts or so history has proven, anyway.

Btw, Jon Stewart is hilarious. He is a perfect example of an independant (thinker, at least) with a liberal lean.

sorry if you're offended nosis, i am not qualified to discuss acorn at this point, so i am leaving it to jwhop and whoever else wants to discuss it. it IS the same chicken and the whole can of worms is opening up - i am not going to spend my whole life researching every bit and bob. i don't remember making any comments about left or right, though they were either side of me!

the remark about war crimes investigation was to REMIND people that the WHOLE apple is rotten.

eleanore you have a point, but there have always been plenty of poor people. there are more PEOPLE now than ever and don't forget that the capitalist model depends on a broad base of poor workers too. swings and roundabouts. however i don't think norway or sweden have as high a percentage of poor people as we do...

ACORN's Illegal Alien Home Loan Racket
by Michelle Malkin
Friday, September 18, 2009

There's one thing more shocking than the illegal alien smuggling advice that an ACORN official in San Diego gave undercover journalists James O'Keefe and Hannah Giles. It's the illegal alien home loan racket that ACORN has already been operating with the full knowledge of the U.S. government.

On Wednesday, O'Keefe and Giles published the fifth in a series of BigGovernment.com sting videos. ACORN official Juan Carlos Vera coached the pimp-and-prostitute-posing pair on how best to pull off a border-busting smuggling operation. It would be "better from Tijuana," he counseled on videotape. Vera then generously offered the investigative couple his Mexican "contacts" to bring 12 illegal alien girls into the country for prostitution.

GOP California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger now wants an investigation. But neither the Terminator nor any other California public official raised a peep when the very same San Diego ACORN office publicly announced a partnership with Citibank to secure home loans for illegal aliens.

In 2005, Citibank and ACORN Housing Corporation -- which received tens of millions of tax dollars under the Bush administration alone -- began recruiting Mexican illegal aliens for a lucrative program offering loans with below-market interest rates, down-payment assistance and no mortgage insurance requirements. Instead of the Social Security numbers required of law-abiding citizens, the program allows illegal alien applicants to supply loosely monitored tax identification numbers issued by the IRS.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reported that "undocumented residents" comprise a vast market representing a potential sum of "$44 billion in mortgages." Citibank enlarged its portfolio of subprime and other risky loans. ACORN enlarged its membership rolls. The program now operates in Miami; New York City; Jersey City, N.J.; Baltimore; Washington, D.C.; Chicago; Bridgeport, Conn.; and at all of ACORN Housing's 12 California offices. San Diego ACORN officials advised illegal alien recruits that their bank partners would take applicants who had little or no credit, or even "nontraditional records of credit, such as utility payments and documentation of private loan payments."

The risk the banks bear is the price they pay to keep ACORN protesters and Hispanic lobbyists from the National Council of La Raza screaming about "predatory lending" off their backs. These professional grievance-mongers have turned the 1977 Community Reinvestment Act -- which forced lenders to sacrifice underwriting standards for "diversity" -- into lucrative "business" opportunities. Or rather, politically correct blackmail.

As the Consumer Rights League noted in a 2008 report on the group's successful shakedowns of financial institutions, "an agreement with Citibank, a significant ACORN donor and partner, showed that some activists become less active when deals are in place."

In the wake of the sting videos, ACORN officials are making a great show of clamoring for "reform." ACORN chief executive Bertha Lewis blamed the debacles across the country on the "indefensible action of a handful of our employees." But the corruption is systemic. ACORN has long thrown rank-and-file operatives under the bus to cover for its management's indefensible conduct. And ACORN's highly touted advisory watchdogs include inherently conflicted foxes guarding the henhouse:

ACORN advisory council member Henry Cisneros resigned from his post as Clinton HUD Secretary after lying to FBI agents about payments to a former mistress.

ACORN advisory council member Andy Stern is president of the SEIU, the Big Labor organization plagued by embezzlement scandals and inextricably linked to ACORN's disgraced founder Wade Rathke.

And ACORN advisory council member Eric Eve of Citigroup is a champion of the ACORN/Citibank illegal alien loan program that openly undermines immigration laws and integrity in banking.

The truth is more sordid than any fictional scenarios caught on tape: ACORN is a corrupt enterprise.
http://townhall.com/columnists/MichelleMalkin/2009/09/18/acorns_illegal_alien_home_loan_racket?page=1

Hmmm, make that a corrupt "ongoing criminal enterprise"

Most certainly katatonic. I do read what I post here.

I also read what you post in response.

"so i guess that makes everyone who uses citibank a criminal as well?!..katatonic"

No sane person could extrapolate what was said in the article about Citibank teaming up with ACORN to mean...everyone who uses Citibank is a criminal.

I never suggested...nor did the article suggest that "everyone who does business with Citibank is a criminal".

That's the kind of hyperbole and hyperbolic rhetoric one expects from leftists.
