i was put off by the source name too. however i spent an hour listening to an admittedly excitable radio man discussing it last night. it is nowhere near "through" but it basically guts ALL our "inalienable" rights to due process of any kind, and puts the military on the ground at home...many were okay with the patriot act when the heat was on. it has not been rescinded and still no one thinks it is a dangerous document. but this one... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwKxZfcEj-U for once i see a point in having rand paul in congress... find myself wondering if this is being done in "secret" how come it's out there? it is bad enough that they want to give these powers against US citizens, they are basically trying to make it okay anywhere in the world. somehow i doubt other countries are going to just sit on their hands for that? again, this is not being served up by the "socialists" most conservatives are so afraid of. thank god mccain is not in the white house for this one! thanks for the link shura. i was not aware the senate had actually passed this monstrosity.and may i say to anyone who found it objectionable that guantanamo detainees be granted legal rights to trials rather than just be locked up indefinitely, if you read some of the "indicators" (or just listen to rand paul above) as to what constitutes possible terrorism, if you do your shopping weekly and thus have more than 7 days food stored in your house, you qualify as a possible terrorist. if you are missing fingers (through whatever accident or birth defect) you also qualify. again, this is one of the last puzzle pieces making a military coup or martial law our everyday reality folks. before we give these clowns any more of our rights, can we stop with the dem/rep argument and get down to what to do??? I`m astounded. Does it not blur the lines of our Constitutional rights? Unimaginable. quote: The final vote showed bizarre fractures among Democrats, erasing the usual barriers between conservatives and liberals. The 16 who voted for the harsh detainee rules were Sens. Bob Casey (Pa.), Kent Conrad (N.D.), Kay Hagan (N.C.), Daniel Inouye (Hawaii), Herb Kohl (Wis.), Mary Landrieu (La.), Carl Levin (Mich.), Joe Manchin (W. Va.), Clair McCaskill (Mo.), Robert Menendez (N.J.), Ben Nelson (Neb.), Mark Pryor (Ark.), Jack Reed (R.I.), Jeanne Shaheen (N.H.), Debbie Stabenow (Mich.) and Sheldon Whitehouse (R.I.). National defense hawk and independent Sen. Joe Lieberman (Conn.) also voted in favor of the tougher language.
There ya go. Write or type till your fingers are as numb as our rights will be if passed. Stabenow and Levin; no suprise there ------------------ Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it. ~Rumi~ IP: Logged |

I wonder how Jwhop feels about Rand? They should get along famously. Both Tea Partiers, both break out in hives at the mere mention of the EPA, both against abortion rights, blah blah. IP: Logged |

You are mistaken.I am not a member of any Tea Party organization. As a Conservative, I'm a Republican...by default. Which does not mean I endorse the RINO Establishment in the the Republican Party. In fact, I did my part to discourage and defeat the RINOS Mel Martinez and Charlie Crist in Florida. I've also done my part to discourage other RINOS...like Arlen Specter, Chuck Hagel, Susan Collins, Olympia Snow and Richard Lugar. I did this by writing scorching letters to the RNC and withholding campaign contributions...and I told them why in no uncertain terms. I will not be a happy camper until the last RINO is gone from the Congress of the United States, the last RINO at the RNC has been sent packing and the last RINO reporter...like Kathleen Parker, Peggy Noonan and David Brooks have had their word processors confiscated and their microphones ripped out of their hands. Ron Paul and Rand Paul are right. Repeal the Federal Reserve Act of 1913...and put the crooks and thieves in prison. But, I was saying that before anyone ever heard of Rand Paul or was paying any attention to Ron Paul! Nevertheless, if Republicans nominate Daffy Duck for President, you'll find me wearing a "Daffy Duck for President" button. Daffy Duck is far more rational than Barack Hussein O'Bomber and more in touch with reality.

this thread is not about "rinos" jwhop. it is about a bill that blatantly ignores any personal freedom we might think we have.you wax eloquent in viper mode when obama is on the table. yet you voted for mccain and have no response to this military-coup bill which he introduced? bye. IP: Logged |

The response you're complaining about katatonic...was in direct response to a question by shura..."I wonder how Jwhop feels about Rand? They should get along famously. Both Tea Partiers, both break out in hives at the mere mention of the EPA" Or....did you miss that? IP: Logged |

Not a Tea Party member? Honestly? May I ask why?I know you're a Repub by default, Jwhop. I understand. I will vouch for your stance on the Federal Reserve for as far back as my first post here in 2003. For a time, I was a Democrat by default. (albeit a very moderate one) I've learned that my definition of conservative is rarely adhered to within the Republican party. Unfortunately, I can say no better for true liberalism (rather than "leftists") among the Democrats. Yk, occasionally I find myself yearning for a Libertarian Party member card. God help me. But these parties, Big Daddy, the lines are long since blurred. My two Senators, both moderate Democrats, voted for this latest Defense Authorization Bill. I abhor Obama, and I said so many times here in GU previous to the election. Now do I vote for Newt because I despise Obama, or vote for Obama because I despise Newt? I couldn't sleep at night, knowing I had voted for Gingrich. Could you? I could play the "lesser of two evils" game, except that I no longer believe there's an ultimate difference between my two options. What I suggest, and I believe Juni and Kat are trying to say the same, is that both hands now belong to the same body. moving forward, your thoughts on the Bill? IP: Logged |
