My aunt and uncle died from aids.
Poor people do not have acess to holistic expensive alternative meds.
They lived a very long time after being diagnosed. They were given the meds that the state provides. And they died about 2 years apart.
They were both I.V. drug users and so with that lifestyle there is no telling if they got it from needles or sex.

I am not sure that STD's exist. I mean, think about what would happen if everyone knew that they could have sex without any repercussions.

There would probably be a greater population that are carriers of STD's, and depending on the quality of health care, there may be an affect on fertility and average life expectancy.

Well, they certainly exist. It's just that many years ago before they were named as such people died young and didn't really know what from.
Have you ever seen the johnny depp movie, 'The Libertine'? or Jane Seymour in 'East of Eden'? people died of syphllis, but they didn't know what it was. They went blind and crazy and just died. Now we know what it is, so, we have more responsibility.

Having said that, I do know a guy who does NOT believe in STD's. He just doesn't. He never uses protection and sleeps with whoever he wants. I find this totally baffling.
He says the body rids itself and cures itself of whatever ails it.

I am just glad that he isn't someone that I would ever sleep with, but it's scary that someone as educated and seemingly clean cut as him thinks this way. Where there is one like that there are bound to be more, so that is why each person has to be responsible for theirselves, and not leave it up to others.

Some of my daughters friends thought that birth control prevented STD's!!! I lost it when I heard that. These girls are 19 and 20 years old and have had sex ed, they should know better!!

I think a great majority of people are vulnerable to be "mis-educated" about the dangers and realities of STD's because "denial" suits the fast-paced and carefree lifestyle, more appropriately.

Many men prefer to not use condoms if a woman is on birth control. Many women allow men to not use condoms, because - ? I would guess to appease men?

Regardless it is a fact that BC pills do not prevent STD's.

If anyone doubts the reality of STD's they should quickly do a google search on Genital Warts and Herpes and look at the photographs.

Also, please research Syphillis and HIV.

Also, remember, that the only 100% sure protection from a STD is abstinence.

Yes, it has to do with appeasing guys, and for the guys.. idk. I buy my son condoms b/c I know what he is doing. I would prefer he didn't do it, but he does.
He has a friend whose mother doesn't know what HE does, and so he doesn't use condoms unless the girl has them.

I said, 'well, what if you catch an STD'?

and he said, very indignant, I might add, 'I think I can tell when a girl is dirty'!!

This is reality people. This is how teenage boys think! Well, some of them, anyway!

The schools, the parents, whoever are NOT doing their jobs, if a kid can walk around believing that he can tell if a girl is carrying something by the way she looks!
It's very scary.
Cos, what are the stats now, Ps, I just saw this on tv. One in ten adults have something? I mean ONE in TEN are carrying something around?

If we don't get educated and quick, this will be a pandemic and maybe send us right back to victorian values. Wouldnt that be a trip!!!

Well, it's a bad time too for this kind of situation to develop, because the access to health care has suffered in the States because of lack of health insurance.

If you get a STD and don't have health insurance, you will have to pay out of pocket for your health care.

At the very least:

The costs of STD medications vs. cost of condoms should be considered.

There are indeed stds!

Anyone who personally has lost loved ones to A.I.D.S. know damn well it is horribly real!

I did not want to post this but I fraking know they are too damn real!
In the wild times of the Vietnam war era;
I contracted Gonorrhea 3 times!
I was practicing what I thought was safe sex;
using a condom each time.
The guys all looked clean and healthy, with no symptoms!
The worst bout was an incredibly horrific Southeast Asian one.
There is no way to describe the agony of acute Peritonitis with Septemia.
Peritonitis is an inflammation of the membrane which lines the inside of the abdomen and ALL of the internal organs. This membrane is called the peritoneum.
Untreated it always leads to death.
I almost died, even with IV antibiotics.
I bled from every bodily orifice, every,
including tears of blood.
My abdomen outside was covered in dark purple bruises.
I was fevered, 104, in a coma during part of it, and screaming in unrelenting agony feeling as if someone were ripping my guts out with acid dipped razors and punching me with jackhammers until I would go into shock.
Most likely my severe IBS attacks and some of my reproductive woes were/are caused by the scaring and fibrous Abdominal adhesions,
Which are bands of tissue that form between abdominal tissues and organs. Normally, internal tissues and organs have slippery surfaces, which allow them to shift easily as the body moves. Adhesions cause tissues and organs to stick together.

So yeah,
stds are real!
Fortunately I was cured but live with the aftermath of the damage done.
More fortunate than my friends who have or have died from A.I.D.S.
Additionally, a guy I know, and his wife, both have Herpes.
They have 3 children which had to be conceived in a petri dish and implanted in her.
It was very expensive but the only way to make sure the babies were not infected.

Another man I knew had to have a full circumcision due to Syphilis in his 30s.

And genital warts...these folks can never have unprotected sex even for reproduction.

Add to the list are such gross things as "tiny livestock".
Ewwwwwww.

So this idiotic concept that there are no stds.....
frake that!
It is that kind of stupidity that leads to more cases of stds!

PS.So am I paranoid now about having sex?
Frake yeah!
With my soon to be ex, I practiced safe sex,
but no longer having any sexual contact with him. My last stds tests came out fine since last contact with him.
So until I know I am in a monogamous relationship, know that myself and the other person are both std free;
{I've been tested and will get retested even though tested A-OK)
Well, it is abstinence for me!

You appear to find STDS funny.
You seem to not want to learn about them.
You seem to not believe the truth about them.
Maybe I am getting too cranked up but you have no reason after reading this thread with its plenty of information and links,
to still be ignorant of the issue as you say:

Yes, text can be misleading, but it appears to me that you find the topic a source of amusement, or a hoax.
You said:
quote:
Other than intercourse, can you get STD's from other sexual activities.
Is so,which STD's and which sexual activities
quote:
Thank you so much for answering my questions so well, Lexx

Well I do not appreciate a serious issue being made fun of, laughing, and not showing any compassion for the victims nor to those of us here who have lost loved ones due to stds, and or suffered horribly personally.
And I do not appreciate your threats either.

Lexx

You have a right to an opinion, but you have crossed the bounds by not taking this topic seriously.

There was nothing against forum rules in it.

This sucks.
