Sure Myron Rolle springs to mind, and oh look, here is 9 more (out of 32 accepted): http://chronicle.com/blogs/players/9-athletes-are-among-newly-named-rhodes-scholars/2 7799 Can list the Academic All American teams as well if one requires more evidence. IP: Logged |

In contrast to the list of Rhodes, Fulbright and Zuckerman scholars each year, your Googled list of student-athletes is puny. Shall I list this years' Phi Beta Kappa honorees (of which I proudly belong)? And I was talking about professional level star athletes, not students. IP: Logged |

athletes for sure. Dont get me wrong writers are great but I bet most of them wouldnt have the courage to line up against a 300 pound defensive tackle. I did lmao, boy was it hell on the knees.IP: Logged |

Ehh foot ball players are kinda low tier on lovers spectrum. No offense. Volleyball players and swimmers are always hot, male or female... I much prefer their body types.

Well gosh YTA, which does one suppose is the larger pool college athletes, or regular college students? As for star athletes, once again, tiny pool compared to the overall population, which means it's not an apples to apples comparison. Your PTK reference in context, once again does not take into account Writer v Athlete, as once again one is trying to shoe horn in intellectualism with writing ability, the two are not the same. Unless one wishes to include engineering manuals...

But..but..the writer could have a really popular blog!!!! Will say, much depends on the sort of people they are, athletes are known, and described by their physical appearance, writers only have their work product with no real reference point of either charisma or physical appearance or even venue. Put an athlete, the avg athlete into a discussion about post modernism, they really won't shine, put a writer in gym shorts they probably won't either. IP: Logged |

First of all, Phi Beta Kappa is the most rigorous and most prestigious American academic honor society. It encompasses on the liberal arts and sciences. Engineering majors cannot be inducted unless they have a substantial liberal arts and sciences curriculum. The reference to engineering manuals is not within context.IP: Logged |

Are they writers? And what does it have to do with the OP? And I've shown the Rhodes scholars from 1 yr, shall I look into PBK members who are athletes as well? What is passing funny to me is ones investment that athletes cannot be intellectual, were you trashcanned by athletes as a youth YTA? IP: Logged |

as an "artist" i think everybody should at least be physically capable. why not have the best of both worlds. you dont have to be a girly man to write haha. another odd thing. a lot of women in this thread/that ive met always say they would prefer the creative guy. however, in real life ive noticed that its pretty much opposite. even in the theatre department at my college, the girls say they would rather have an artist over an athlete. yet they always go for that one guy who is the epitome of a stupid jock douche. its like high school all over again; the guy whos saying hes the biggest and baddest MUST BE the biggest and baddest....right? bahaha my opinion, if you have to say youre the best, you probably arent the best.

The athlete/scholar was a fixture of Greek Society, it's a bit odd that now that situation is seen as being mutually exclusive, the mind/body, a healthy body and healthy mind is now seen as in-congruent. IP: Logged |

There is no specific body type for football players.. The typical body type varies widely from position to position. Even players who play a certain position can vary as far as body type. For example: Some running backs are really stocky, muscular and strong.they are known for their power, not their speed. these guys are known as power backs. Then you have some runningbacks who are short and wiry and rely on their quick feet to gain yardage. IP: Logged |

No, I find it confusing tbh, and ma curious where it began to become a truism, and if people who work out consistently, due to free time produced from intellectual endeavors are merely the modern version of that paradigm. Everything from p90x to yoga to personal trainers and crossfit, there is no shortage of people doing athletic work, yet they are not seen as athletes. YTA mentioned he and his wife rode 150 miles in a day on bicycles, that is no small athletic feat, yet YTA does not self identify as being an athlete. Stephen King famously was nearly killed in accident while out biking as well. IP: Logged |

I have to say, it's about the right mixture of both and it will be different for everyone. Writers, poets, artists, musicians are ususally great lovers, but I have dated a couple who I just could not mesh well with sexually and relatonship-wise...no matter how hard i tried to. I really loved that aspect of them (same mental wave-length, good people), but could not handle how different or unbalanced we were in other areas. I've been with some 'beefcake' types, but they also had a great mind and soul, heart. I can't be with a 'weak' or namby-pamby type of guy. They drain my energy BIG TIME - or that has been the experience with the few of them. Some of them are way too gentle and soft-spoken for me. I like to laugh out loud and have fun, although i am rather laid-back and soft spoken myself, but also know how to have fun. The last artist I dated had a hard time with this one and it really brought my energy down. I felt zapped whenever we left each other's presence and eventually I couldnt do it anymore. Even though he was a great person, had a beautiful heart and mind.....i felt sucked dry and that I could not be myself around him and had to break it off. My spirit felt stifled. So, my answer is that there is no real answer.....it always comes down to how two people blend and play off of each other. There should be a good mix if the right physical and mental chemistry. If you rely on only one or the other, it might not work out. IP: Logged |

Some of you here might find this hard to believe, but I am no brute, not even close But if I feel like I could kick my own boyfriend's ass, if it came down to it.....that's a bit of a problem for me .... LOLIf we were out and about and something crazy happened, I need to feel secure that he'd be able to hold his own, at least. I don't want to feel like I'd probably have to be the one doing the ass-kicking, protecting for us both, if need be. IP: Logged |
