That's so annoying yeah highschool is the worst though.
So blatantly racist.

I remember at work one time.
This girl thought it was cool to make stereotypical black jokes around her and I could see my co worker was not amused...
So I was like lets confront her and watch her freak out just for fun.

The girl started crying and playing the victim and my co worker was like take your ass home with that fake white girl tears...
so I started faking crying tooo..
IT WAS A GLORIOUS DAY.

Cause i believe if your gonna make hurtful offensive joke you better learn how to take one back..

I remember I was the only black person sitting at an all white table and one guy down the way literally looked at me and said during one of his "stories" that involved 2 black girls "I don't mean to sound racist but..." in which I just sat there feeling awkward because everyone at the table was looking at me. So and I've had plenty of other instances of that and similar instances happen. But I try and filter who exactly I talk to and gauge the intent behind what is said so the people that I do hang around with who happen to be white aren't those types fortunately. If anything, I get asked alot about my hair but I know it's all due to curiosity most of the time.

As soon as "but" comes out..disregard everything afterwards..that is a qualifier.

But, I will say that I think that it happens in minor groups as well towards white people (maybe not as common and I only have experience with the AA community). I think in those cases it's written off as a "joke" but it still happens and quite alot from the things I've seen, especially those in older generations. I even heard one AA girl proclaim that what she said wasn't offensive because "black people can't be racist". But I know what you mean.

Ugh, that is some BS

My "best" friend in College, on the last tour, was a very pretty black woman/lesbian

We hung out constantly

When taking the bus, black men were not to thrilled that she was hanging out w/a White Guy

To the point this young kid was playing w/her hair and staring at me, normally I'd simply..uhm do some violence

Instead had a chuckle w/her over it..he had -0- idea she swung that way (mostly).

Oddly she also told me a young AA guy would not normally do that, or even notice her, if she was not hanging out w/a "White Guy"

To the OP though, Charlie is NOT a racist, what is happening is more then likely she has been dunked into some sort of sociology course that told her that "racism is baad uhm kay"

I actually completely agree with you on that one. The "I'm not ___________, but..." is always, ALWAYS a qualifier, imo.

But yeah, I don't think Charlie is racist. The guy sounds like he's just butthurt and saying whatever he can dredge up to evoke guilt/shame.

Yeah the tension between black and white is ridiculously intense sometimes..

I use to work in retail and noticed some black customers would give tude towards white coworkers and freak them out and behave quite pleasant and normal towards me.
Seeing my bambi like co workers trembling was not fun, so I would try and take over.
I definitely don't like people preying on the weak that's for sure.

Omg your AA friend was SO right!!!!!!!!!!

That's another thing in the AA community in concerns to interracial dating and "who can vs. who can't" that grinds my gears but I'm not going to go too much into that lol.. I've been known to like guys of other races and it's definitely true about the sudden "attention" (99% unwarranted and or harassing) I get from men my race who normally otherwise date women of other races because I'm not with someone black. One of my closest guy friends here just happens to be white and we get alot of stares whenever we go to parties or just hang out lol.

Thankfully I've never had anything horrible happen nor did anything happen to you (some guys have even been killed and there was a recent story in the news of a AA guy targeting a black female/white male married couple saying they had "jungle fever"). Yes, black people CAN definitely be racist lol. All races actually.

It is so stupid to judge people by externals, whatever they may be. I can say that I don't see them. People may think that is weird but I don't. I see hearts

Do you get stares still??

Uggh where do you live?
predominately black or white?

I hate the stares... They annoy me so much. It's like really we're still in the 50's
I live in the city so it's not really that bad... people don't even notice it.
but when I travel out I notice people staring at interracial couples... It's like my biggest pet peeve.

This why I can't live outside my city it's like a different world from mine.
In my world, race and sex do not really matter.
More like minor details.

Hahahahaha.
Close.

We're more worried about getting to know our chickens personally before we eat them around these parts. That's hardly an exaggeration, honestly.

But we moved about 40 minutes outside the city a year ago. The "other" Portlandia.

I'm born and raised in Michigan. Right now on my college campus it's predominately white but there's still a pretty nice size of AA students and other races. Back home in that area it's about the same.

It was one instance where a black guy literally grabbed my arm at a party when I was with my friend and told me I should dance with his buddy after I initially tried walking past him when he said "AY". I think that was probably the worst I've ever encountered personally. I think certain Interracial pairings receive more attention in general than others too though. I notice it but it doesn't bother me, for all I know they might actually be fascinated or something I get alot of attention with my natural hair anyways. As long as no one physically harms or verbally harasses me or the person I'm with I'm fine.

I think that the racial mix and (possibly) age range plays a part too. And who you're around. At that specific party I was with a group of other black girls and they wanted to go there and I invited him along. Whenever me and him are in more of a mix (which is 98% of the time) we don't have any problems. I've had instances of staring like that it was always when a nice size of other black people were there. Around other people it's not as common or you just get glanced at alot but again it doesn't bother me or him.

We live in Washington, haha. But yeah, same thing. My husband is from Morro Bay, CA and he INCESSANTLY complains about how grey and rainy it is here. I'm like "Pfft. I'd rather have this than snow", hahaha. Leo vs Pisces on weather.

Worst case scenario to me is the cat knows this, and knows, pretty much, how Charlie will react..and it will work.

One does not even want to know my none politically corrected response to that sort of thing...trust me on this

It's a fight, or they will laugh, one of the two.

Things grow weirder, but Odette was correct, do not want to troll Charlie's thread.

She's (assuming Charlie is a she) being manipulated

Have a very bad habit of taking people's threads and making them about "ME".

When going well, it's meant to be a sort of story that people can draw their own conclusions from due to poignant situations

When going badly, reads like a bad romance novel w/tawdriness being rife in them

Made up my mind to NOT do that any longer

I know more than one who've come to hate the O-word ("oreo" or "white on the inside") more than the N-word, though one on YT embraced it as a term of pride meaning she was pulling herself up by her bootstraps rather than laying in the gutter as everything white racists (and AA who have internalized white racism against themselves, even if they sometimes take a twisted pride in it) say she should be.

And just to be clear they don't like how the N-word is "reclaimed" either (especially as they've noticed it often gets used in a demeaning or hostile way), so it's not like they think it's fine to use even in hip hop, they actually seem to take more offense at the N-word than most AA, but still hate the O-word even more.
