I'm not much of a cryer, but when my Grandmother died, I had a time like that.It wasn't immediate, it was a delayed reaction, months afterward, but I just couldn't stop. I spent a whole lot of time in the bathtub, four to six hours a day, before I got through it. I really loved my Grandma. Emotions are odd. IP: Logged |

I had that twice. Once was in a church service and I happened to be in the front row.The guest speaker read this book "I'll Love you Forever". Other people were tearing up but I was gushing and gulping and people were looking at me but I couldn't stop. The same thing happened at another service at a whole different place, when another guy read this same book. Then, a sweet girl I knew at the church got the book for me. It is about a mother's love for a baby and you see the mother taking care of the baby and all the different stages. Then, the mother gets old and the son rocks the mother and she is really little in a nightgown. It has the refrain, "I will love you forever and my baby you'll be" Then, when the son is rocking the old mother, he says, "I'll love you forever, my mother you'll be. I cry when I write this. Doux, her wrists touch you in a deep place and it was spontaneous what came out

On my phone (so a short response)I think one is that you identified with her. It brought you in touch with a part of yourself that you had locked away and hadn't properly dealt with. You probably pushed it deep inside and left it there. This, was a small opening... A crack...to let you have a glimpse back inside of yourself. On some level, you saw this and let the previously denied emotions come out. If I made sense IP: Logged |

I guess that's good your heart hasn't turned into a stone yet? I too think your experiences had something to do with it. You needed to let it out sooner or later. Public crying sucks so maybe it's time let yourself indluge in it in private.------------------ I'm sooo happy! I mean, cappy. IP: Logged |

Starlight, Thanks, although I feel a bit weird knowing that it wasn't pure empathy but more of a mirroring. Of course I still felt for her, no doubt about that, but it was a mix of her + my own experience, I suppose.
You were able to share this moment with your friend. I think it's good even if you do not feel it was solely for her. The important thing is, you shared a part of yourself you do not normally feel comfortable for people to see.

People have emotional batteries, they generally are charged through external experiences. When someone is upset they discharge via crying or offering comfort. Do not be dismayed As the Beatitudes say "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted" IP: Logged |

Thanks, Starlight. I like that quote, Padre. It resonates with me; I'd like to apply it to myself more often.

Sad thing is, these days such displays of emotion are seen as weakness instead of being emotionally healthy. As if the paradigm is to be a sociopath that never displays emotions. Mourning is a healthy thing as long as it does not become a sort of life

You're welcome doux. I'm good at shoving things deep inside, hoping that they'll disappear. Sometimes they come out. But I bet despite your embarrassment that you felt a lot better. IP: Logged |

haha, what you are experiencing isnt odd, nor should you feel odd. it is only when people go through pain themselves that they understand the pain of others. in that moment you understood her pain as she was telling that story, related it to yourself and had a cryfest over yourself (for feeling that pain again,) AND for her, as she is going through that pain. it is something that is widely spread in the acting world. im doing a show right now, king lear by shakespeare, and it is so heartbreaking when certain moments hit, you will see the director crying because she can relate to the moment in real life. i have a lot of friends like this as well, all female but i highly doubt that is always the case. youre going to be fine doux and the crying definitely wasnt random. perhaps you know why you felt those things, and felt so vulnerable, but perhaps you are blocking it out of your own mind. ------------------ "Perhaps there are new plateaus to reach, even greater heights to which I must ascend." Thanks, CatMote. It could be "normal" for other people, but it definitely wasn't for me. Good luck with the show. Sounds pretty good.

It is about your heart, and your thoughts, and indeed your faith. This is why Jesus said "their angels have access"
All I would tell Doux is to not be bitter as that chases Angels away IP: Logged |
