If we attract the sign our Chiron is in, what's that relationship like? Was it painful? Did you learn from it, is it karmic? I want to know it all!

IME - in the first case, it was incredibly painful, and embarrassing (but, yes lesson learned)... in the second, I was more his healer... and lastly, in the third experience, karmic - possibly - with him guiding me...

It wasn't painful for me but my Chiron is in Gemini sextile my Sun and I generally like Gemini energy anywhere in the chart. It would depend on the aspects your Chiron makes..

Story of my life!
My Chiron is in Cancer, I'm naturally attracted to Cancer men, but I think this also has to do with my South Node being in Cancer too, and with having Scorpio as the second dominant sign in my chart..

My relationships with Cancers so far, yes they have been painful. But in a way transforming, I was never the same when I got over them!

Funny enough, yesterday night I was in the same company, with a Cancer ex that I used to be tottaly attracted to and took me like a year to stop thinking about him. I was so proud I was cool and could be with him in the same place without suffering. But that's because well, my new Cancer fling was around too

My chiron is in Cancer too! I had some really intense fights with my Cancer friend when we were closer, but like you mentioned - I think I was his healer. The next Cancer I dated, it was incredibly embarrassing. I only went on two dates with him but the second time bombed so bad!!! Maybe this third time around (if there is a third time) it'll be a nice experience?!

My experience was similar to SaturnineMoth's. I was in the position of always being relied on to help and heal. I made a lot of poor decisions for the sake of his comfort. In retrospect the compromises I made were highly self destructive and ridiculous.

The big thing for me was perceiving him as a horribly damaged and poorly adjusted person. Some big themes were helping him acclimate to more healthy social practices, pulling him out of his shell, and getting him to feel like less of a social outcast. By the end of the relationship I was in very poor physical and emotional health and he was on his way to becoming much better adjusted. It was like I absorbed all his fear and dysfunction.

I eventually learned that he represented an exaggeration of the issues I already faced. The desire to "help" him, was a direct desire to help myself. Ironically enough, the thing that ended our relationship was a fight where he told me that I did something to make him feel "violated" (for the record, that violated feeling came from me cleaning his bedroom, after he asked me to, with him sitting right there, and telling me where to put everything). He said it to get a rise out of me, but it hit a tender spot. Our entire relationship was built on him pushing my comfort zone, relentlessly begging or bullying me to do things I didn't want to do until I caved, being sexually creepy at me all the time, without any rest, and always bugging me for sex (to the point of me having sex when I didn't want to). It's so funny to me that that simple word "violation" was the thing that broke such a strong and psychologically codependent bond. It felt a lot like I was a fly trapped in molasses. You know you are going to die if you stay, but you are stuck and the situation tastes so sweet.

In the end, it was essential for me to get away from him. There was too much issue and not enough room for anyone to heal. Leaving opened my eyes to how much neglect I was putting myself through and helped me focus more on my own social and physical health.

I understand the relationship you are talking about Xiiro. I'm glad you were able to go through it with such dignity. What I don't understand is if this means anyone I meet with Cancer in their chart will activate my Chitin or not. I attract watery people a lot. However the only intense relationships I've jadnwlllwith Cancer/Leo, Leo/Cancers.

I don't believe things can be that easily summed up. It feels as if the more I understand my Chiron, the better chance I have of enjoying a good interaction with people who trigger it. Part of the reason this particular experience played out the way it did, was because I hadn't done much work on myself.

Nothing changes a bad situation like a nice dose of awareness and I am confident I will never have to go through that experience again, because I learned from it. If you want good interactions with the people who trigger your Chiron, then keep your eyes open for Chiron issues arising and deal with them in an appropriate and responsible manner. That is guaranteed to give you a head start on any related issues.

Please don't fear or adopt apprehension in life, because of astrological factors. There is too much potential in every moment to live that way. Astrology provides a bitter-sweet opportunity for looking at situations with great understanding, or great fear.

I agree! And for the most part, I don't. Except when it comes to Leos lol. I am wary of Leos at first.

What are considered Chiron issues? I kind of grasp this is about "wounds" from Ami Anne, but mine is in the 2nd house - the house of money. Wounds made by money? I'm just not computing it very well.

I can't remember where I researched it, so unfortunately I am unable to give credit where it is due. A while ago though, I went on a Chiron research rampage. The thing that clicked for me was one author calling it "the area of our life where we feel crippled or handicapped". There is a lot more than just feeling fundamentally disabled however. Chiron also represents the events that develop out of that handicap.

The best way to understand Chiron's energy is to be familiar with the myth so...:

First, centaurs were said to be the offspring of the god of sunlight and the goddess of clouds. They were infamous for being belligerent, violent, and prone to excess. The first important point to make is that Chiron was a centaur, but he was conceived in a freakish way, so he was a centaur only in body.

The story starts with Cronos getting horny over a nymph and her rejecting him. She transformed into a mare to escape his advances, but he transformed into a stallion and raped her. When she gave birth to Chiron and saw he was part horse, she rejected and abandoned him to fend for his self.

Apollo adopted Chiron and taught him everything under the Sun (hehe, see what I did there?). Chiron then became a teacher for gods, demigods, and some of the most famous people in mythology. While out with Hercules, Chiron was accidentally scratched on the knee by a Hydra-blood-poisoned arrow. This created an excruciating wound which can not be healed (as hydra blood was known to do) and because Chiron was immortal, that meant an eternity of pain.

Instead of living with eternal pain, Chiron volunteered to take Prometheus's place. He relinquished his immortality, ended his pain through death, and was commemorated with the constellation Centarus.

I think it is important to also understand how Chiron's decision to absolve Prometheus plays into the planet's energy.

Prometheus (foresight) and Epimetheus (hindsight) were brother Titans, who were said to be responsible for creating the creatures of the earth. Epimetheus shortsightedly created beasts first and gave to them all the weapons and instincts to guarantee their survival. By the time Prometheus created man, there were no claws, teeth, or natural tools left to give. And humans were left bald and shivering in a hostile world. Out of pitty, Prometheus imparted upon humans the godly understanding of fire, technology, and industry. For this, Zeus punished him.

So....lol

All of that said, Chiron represents an experience or condition out of our control, which makes us feel completely alien from our own species and those who are supposed to love us unconditionally (my mother always treated me like the ugly child because I have curly hair, therefor I must appear ugly to everyone else). It also represents how we apply that experience to our lives (because I am fundamentally ugly, I comfort eat and spare people the horror of looking at me by avoiding public places. OR I work with abandoned and psychologically abused children, because I know first hand what that feels like. I especially enjoy doing a "girls day" where I pick up the girls from my local orphanage and treat them to a mani/pedi. It helps them feel cherished, pampered, and beautiful).

Essentially the energy begins with a wound and that wound turns us into either an outcast or a trail blazer. It is not something that falls on the shoulders of anyone else, we must endure and overcome it alone. Chiron's symbol is a key and I actually caught myself unintentionally writing about it to a friend recently, "Life is opening new doors, which are revealing that you are not flawed because of your past, but uniquely shaped. And just like a key, your unique shape is crafted to fit a certain lock". This is a perfect example of how Chiron works.

The reason I mentioned Prometheus is because his story is about "taking one for the team" and "suffering for something you believe in". The energy of Chiron starts off as an unbearable pain, but can evolve into a cause which saves or empowers the defenseless. Chiron devotes it's entire life to the events surrounding it's wound and like it or not, its experiences always teach others. We can choose to master our pain and teach others through positive influence or succumb to our pain and teach others through negativity.

First (and I know you hear this a lot from LL members, but nevertheless) THANK YOU for typing that out for me! It was to the point and I now have a better understanding of Chiron in general.

Second, I still don't know how Chiron affects me. It's in the second house, which is a weird house for Chiron to be in (imo) and in Cancer. Unless...does the 2nd house have to do with self worth and not just monetary value?

Beautifully written Xiiro!
BTW, I'm wondering about your Mercury placement?

@ hannaramaa:

Yes the 2nd house also has to do with your self worth ... more like your self identity through the material.

As LJ mentioned, "more like your self identity through the material".

If the first house is about the emerging of a new object, the development and establishment of a brand new baby "Self", The the second house (being related to Venus and Taurus) is associated with sensuality. Or more specifically put, our ability to define our self based on the way we sense, value, and appreciate the material world.

An example of this (and especially in Cancer's case) is the material things/experience that bring us comfort and feel personal to us. With Chiron here, you may have been raised without any material evidence of love or worth (or even rejected when you tried to express your own love/worth). You may have moved a lot or been kept some how from establishing a good sense of what is "YOU". The people responsible for providing you with that (in the incident which first triggered your Chiron) may have expected you to just know it, or flat out not been willing to connect with you on that level. The degree of Chiron has indicated the age of the event in some of the readings I have done. It also can repeat it's self at intervals of that age (so Chiron 10 degrees may indicate an incident at 10 years old, which may have reemerged at 20, and then 30, etc...).

Whatever the case, this can create a feeling of disconnect from all other objects in the world. One feels they are unable or unworthy to convey their self in a sensual or material way, and therefor there can be internal conflict about the worth or value of one's actual self. If something can not show material evidence of its self or its feelings, are the self or feelings real?

This struggle could be about the validation of one's personal space (internal and external). A situation of not being able to know for sure, if what they are feeling is real and what they are emoting is being correctly experienced by others. It may also be hard to form a personal "brand" or know what things about the world you like and dislike. You may feel your interests in the world are based not on your own style, but things you have seen work for others. This Chiron can feel like the world is not filled with solid realities, but hunks of squishy clay. This can be difficult when one considers how much the things we consider real (good and bad) influence our personal sense of self.

EDIT: Thanks to Jovian for reminding me in the post below. Aspects have a lot to do with how your Chiron manifests. The links in Jovian's posts are very good.

This is not regarding Chiron in synastry, but natally.... Michelle at astrofix.net has several blog entries about various combinations of planets with Chiron. Rather than offer precise descriptions of aspects, her method is to offer a bounty of keywords and phrases, upon which one can meditate about how their own aspect might present itself. I have found it helpful for my own Venus-Chiron aspect.

Thanks Xiiro! Makes sense. I wanted to know because you seem to have a penetrating mind about substantive issues. Combined with a phenomenal ability to write. Jupiter in 3rd opp Merc. in 9th would do it.

Oh, your chiron is aspecting my Asc. I guess you are another of my teachers And my Jupiter aspects your Merc. I like what and how you write.

Jovian, I especially liked related to the Jupiter/Chiron article the most. I have a better concept of Chitin now I think. Its like it dampens whatever it touches right? Also, would Chiron in the 2nd signify someone who is shown love and affection through material gifts?

I have Moon conjunct Chiron. When I attract Cancerian influenced people there is a definite sense of pain usually on both ends... emotional blockages... difficulties getting along due to intense emotions causing issues, usually because I don't get their issues and they want more from me. Especially true with Cancer Suns and Moons, and people with many 4th house planets. Made worse since I'm a Libra Sun too.

As for the sign Virgo, I don't have a very hard time in general with this sign. I actually haven't known many Virgo people besides a few classmates and one coworker and I never dated any of these people. My ex however had 3 Virgo planets and we had a very difficult relationship where I wanted more passion and expression and he didn't give this to me so we split.

Well, I've seen it described as a Karmic wound. In synastry, I've seen it described that one's Chiron is healing toward the planet being aspected in the other's chart. And also, as Xiiro shared above, that one's Chiron can be stimulated by the other planet, but it is really only the Chiron person that is aware of it pressing on the Chiron "wound" for the Chiron person to deal with.

As for Chiron in the 2nd house, there are other keywords for the 2nd house...self-worth (as others above have said), and sex. Second house is naturally ruled by Taurus. Xiiro gave a good description.

I can only point you to some links on Chiron in the houses.

Also, Ami Anne started a thread on Chiron in the houses, in Astro 2. People are sharing their experiences.

http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum24/HTML/217094.html

Chiron in 2nd house:

http://www.horoscopes-love.eu/chiron-in-the-2nd-house.html

I liked this guest article at Sasstrology, about what we need in relationship, based on our Chiron house placement. The author suggests that Chiron contacts are indeed necessary for "true love" connections. (Magi Astrology also has this tenet--that Chiron is necessary in love relationships.)

"Chiron is a centaur, a wild and wise being who in our astrology highlights our most untamed weakness and our most supportive potential. It is where we are most vulnerable and most in need of sustenance; so inevitably, if we find some other person who in some way soothes that vulnerability or wound, then they are going to become an intimate acquaintance in some sense, and what could be more intimate than the bond of mutual respect and support that is formed between lovers? "

http://sasstrology.com/2008/09/chiron-in-houses-and-in-aspect-to-venus.html

"Second House: Here we require a partner who will take up some of the monetary strain. Natives with Chiron in the Second require a partner who will not be critical of our financial contribution to the household budget, but who at the same time does not belittle or take our contribution for granted. Our values ought to be treated respectfully, and this requires a partner who will listen to our views about what is important to our lives and to our relationship, and take them seriously. More broadly than this however, Chiron in the Second speaks to a theme of security, and not necessarily one of material or financial origin. If we feel insecure in our most significant relationship, this placing will be tweaked and the result will be an ongoing relational crisis"

The third link has me thinking about combining the 4th house to the 2nd since my Chiron is in Cancer, and Cancer rules the 4th. I also always forget the 2nd house includes sex as well. P.S. I never want to end up like Billie Holiday...

Hmm, actually the 4th house does kind of play into this: Cancer rules the moon and the Moon represents the "mother" in Astrology. WELL, my mother certainly wasn't that affectionate. She was unrealistic in her expectations for me, and lost her temper above average with me many times. Her and I's relationship has been quite emotionally screwed up since I was 4, and I also have Moon opp. Pluto in my natal chart too. Plus Sun, Mercury and Venus square Saturn. Since I was around my mother 90% of the time growing up it's like she was both the Sun and Moon and the Chiron.

Now, what's it say that my name asteroid is opposing Chiron? That I'll never "heal"?
